[SPECTRE ASSASSIN]

I was reading Sean Connery's biography by Michael Feeney Callan today, and I read in one passage during the filming of "Thunderball", Connery clicked with fellow co-star Claudine Auger. Did you think they had an affair? If yes, what proof? Connery clicked on-screen as well with Honor Blackman, Ursula Andress and Daniela Bianchi, but this is a question I have been long-meaning to answer, did Connery sleep with Auger? I've been meaning to hear answers since I'm the release of Connery's autobiography due out soon. Might he mention it?

I have heard somewhere that Roger Moore was romantically involved with all the ladies on the films. I heard that somewhere. It sounds rubbish.

Didn't Auger have major English problems? I know Bianchi certainly did. Makes it hard for me to believe Connery could have clicked too much with them. Andress was married to that b-lister. Blackman? Don't know about her, but if anything had happened I'm sure it would have come out at some point over the last 40 years.

Sorry to kill the myths guys, but I don't buy the idea of the leading Bond actors having affairs with the leading ladies, at least until better evidence is presented.

I've seen photos where Auger was sitting on his lap and they seemed pretty comfortable. I think Connery was having marital problems at the time, but I'm not sure that meant he was having an affair. Lucky him if he did, but given his hectic schedule making that film, I doubt he'd have had any time anyway.

The Moore story is probably completely false. I've heard the opposite, that he didn't have very good working relationships with many of the women on the films. And I think his wife was on location with him a lot anyway.

I've read rumors that Sean & Claudine may have had an affair. I do know that he & Jill St.John hooked up during DAF. As for Roger, no cheating but, all I've read concerning him & his female co-stars is that he got along famously with them, except for Grace Jones.

Perhaps (so little in these matters seems to be verifiable fact), but I've heard that Auger actually spoke excellant English, unlike Bianchi. She had spent years in England at au per school, or something like that. The reason she was dubbed was that her voice was quite deep and low. Sort of like Shirley Eaton (GF's "Golden girl" Jill Masterson) being dubbed even though she was a native English speaker because her accent was "too provincial".

As far as extra-marital cavorting goes, I've never heard anything verifiable from any source. I have heard that Moore often didn't get along with his female co-stars, and I have heard the rumor that he slept with some girl from the set of each of his films (not the main star, per se), but this always seemed to be rather far-fetched to me. I think the rumor probably started because of Roger's shagdelic image as Bond on-screen. He often seems to kill time as Bond by hitting the sack, and so he-who-creates-stupid-rumors just assumed that Moore was like that in real life. Not that Moore didn't have any affairs, but the rumor seems rather unsubstantiated.

By the way, TheSaint, how do you know that Connery and Jill Saint John had an affair, and where did you read that Moore actually did get along with his co-stars other than Jones?

I have heard that Connery and St. John had an affair on the DAF set as well. I can't remember the exact source, but there are numerous stills of them embracing and goofing around the set. This was the period after Connery was divorced and before he met his second wife, so it wouldn't be unthinkable.

Lana Wood wrote in her book (NATALIE: A MEMOIR BY HER SISTER) that she and Sean Connery did have a brief affair while filming DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER in Las vegas. Interesting read to see how it all played out. Jill St. John and Sean certainly looked very happy together and I have several tabloid articles from that time that say they had an affair. Both were single and so, why not? To my knowledge, St. John has never spoken about it other than to say she WOULD never speak about it to the press.

Regards to Claudine Auger, I tend to believe she and Sean Connery did have a brief affair while in the Bahamas. Connery was separated from his wife, Diane Cilento, and several production crew memebers were quoted as saying the two spent a lot of time together. One can't really blame Connery for trying to drown out his troubles in the arms of a beautiful and willing young woman. The temptations must have been constantly put in front of him. Diane Cilento did fly out to the Bahamas to stay with her husband, perhaps because she too had heard the rumours, and that was the end of that.

It seem's Sean Connery was usually very kind to his lady costars and took on the role of a protective big brother. They all have very nice things to say about him. Other than the three ladies mentioned above, I've never read about any other possible affairs.

As his then Italian wife, Luisa, was a constant visitor to the set of his Bond movies, I sincerely doubt that Roger Moore ever carried on behind the scenes. He does seem to think highly of Maud Adams but I believe she is/was happily married.

No wonder the guy always looks so happy and relaxed in pics from that film -- he was hooking up with two hot actresses, making big money on a production schedule he was basically dictating, knew he'd have a guaranteed hit he hadn't had since YOLT and he had the freedom to do things he wanted to do when it was finished.
