I think he should retire from playing action hero roles like he did in LXG or Entrapment but I still think he has some more work to do...maybe a modest budget film set in Scottland?

Maybe he's freeing up his schedule for Bond 21.

One can dream.

No thanks, I have enough nightmares these days :)

Seriously, this might be good, if he retires from huge icononic 'See Sean Connery play Sean Connery in this film' roles and settles into quality acting supporting roles.

But funny nonetheless.

I think Connery should retire, like Roger did.

After a career where he has sued just about every studio in Hollywood, and locked horns with many a ninkapoop producer and/or director, maybe it is time to call it a day. BTW, I never did see LXG. I heard it really blew.

Hard to believe if Connery is retiring from acting. But, hey, it will happen sometime.

The film has been in development for some time now and was ready to begin shooting in Prague in February 2005 with Brett Ratner directing (Bret Ratner just finished working with Pierce Brosnan on After The Sunset, set for release November 12). Despite this setback, Fox studio has already begun the process of trying to replace Sean Connery to keep the film on track.

Is Michael Caine about to get a lucrative job offer, I wonder?

Well the man has had an incredible career, I wouldn't be shocked if he has indeed decided to retire. He hasn't exactly been getting the greatest scripts recently, so I can see why he'd make that decision. Although a small cameo role in Bond 21 would definitely be a sight to see.

Well, he has absolutely nothing to prove, and I doubt that anyone would begrudge him his retirement. That said, it'll be a shame if the dreadful LXG turns out to have been his final film; and I for one was looking forward to seeing him in JOSIAH'S CANON, which I had a feeling was going to be quality stuff (might still be quality stuff, of course).

Oh, well. Have a good one, Sir Sean, if you really are retiring - but never say never again! :)

BTW, is everything shooting in Prague these days?

Do actors actually retire?.

I can remember Roger Moore announcing in the late 80's that he was giving up acting, and was going to concentrate on his fishing!.

"do yo expect me to work?". "no Mr Bond, I expect you to fish"!.

Sean hasn't had a decent script since "Indiana Jones Last Crusade" [probably], and I cannot blame him if he really does retire before the arthritis kicks in. :)

In Sean's defence, I would like to say "Thank You Sir Sean" for keeping us entertained over the years, and I for one consider myself lucky that you've been around in my lifetime.

Here's to Sir Sean!. :)

Cheers,

Jason Connery. :)

You read my mind, Loomer.

Anyway, I was interested in Josiah's Canon, but it's really not surprising anymore when the grumpy old Scotsman walks out on something, or sues someone for a few million. Still, if it's true about his memoirs taking full priority, then I'd be really interested to see how they turn out.

After all, it's not every day that Connery refuses to take money.

I expect old Sean will find himself being sued over this one. Pulling out of a movie deal at this late stage (when his "guaranteed" participation was, no doubt, a condition of the studios bank loan) is not called "taking a break"...it's called breach of contract. And it

Roger hasn't retired from acting. Unfortunately, he doesn't get offered the A-list movies or Sean money so, he doesn't work. Maybe the producers of Josiah's Cannon should throw Roger a bone.

Yes, Qwerty...come straighten this out for us. :)

Upon request, I believe that converts to $3,594,000 US dollars. I take the stance that Zencat has already seemed to cover. Personally, I would have liked to see him in this film, as for what little I heard of it, it sounded pretty damn cool.

If he wants to retire, then that is most definitely his choice. He's done many films on all bars, action in James Bond, drama/suspense in Marnie, comedy in Indiana Jones and uncountable others.

Sorry Qwerty, I think you're sitting on the fence there.

Have you got any more info on the subject.... any more facts etc etc.

zencat and I are looking for some inside track on what's happened?  :)

I assure you I'm not, that's what I believe. I'm afraid I do not have any more solid facts on this here, if I did, I would offer them.

A bit of a follow up from The Guardian...

Hollywood's industry newspaper, Variety, reported last night that Sean Connery had abruptly pulled out of his current film project and might be about to announce his retirement.

Connery's Los Angeles publicist, Nancy Seltzer, told the Guardian the actor had withdrawn from the film to focus full-time on writing his memoirs. But she refused to be drawn on the claim that he was giving up acting altogether.

"There is nothing to add to the Variety report," she said. Asked whether that meant the retirement claim was accurate, she said: "I have no interest in addressing the question."

Well, selfishly, I'm disappointed. I think Sean still had many good films in him. However, he certainly put his time in and I hope he enjoys retirement!!

He most likely does, but who is to know with news here? It could be cool even if it was another fantasy role, such as in League.
