Warner Brothers has bought MGM?
Hey folks, Harry here... The drama of what is going to happen to MGM continues... Seems every giant entertainment corporation around has been working to land the lion. MGM has been a rather funky place for quite some time, the real significance of the place lies in its library and for me, the history of the place.

The word that has reached me today is that Warner Brothers officially purchased MGM today and that there will be board meetings tomorrow to discuss the integration process. At this point - consider it a highly placed rumor, but it looks like Leo will have a WB collar.

Don't know how true this is... :)

Let's hope it is true... we will be getting news soon...

This was also just reported on Defamer.com (thanks to Spoon for the quick link), but they warn they've been "burned before" with MGM sale news. So, is it true? If so, I expect we will hear tomorrow...or maybe even within hours.

This sounds like it could be the real deal.

Then again, we've been hearing that Sony's back in the race this last week, so nothing's official 'til it's announced as official.

Considering AICN reported Bana had the 007 role, I won't count on anything they print.

Think I'll wait till this comes across CBn to find out anything official.

If WB DO buy out MGM it'll be a big circle for Bond because I remember buying the Bond movies on VHS on the WB lable (except On Her Majesty’s Secret Service which was a weird situation).

Seems there are two threads on this...

Should also note Brett that when the Bond movies were first released on DVDs back in 1997 (not the special editions of 1999 and 2000) they were released in the WBs snapper cases!

I grabbed a few more shares of AOL-TW yesterday with this looming. It's a strong stock, but might go higher with the purchase.

I had been planning to for the last few months anyway, but with this....Well, we'll see what the close of the market day.

You know, seeing as someone with Internet savvy now owns Bond (and little company called AOL), I wonder if this will impact our happy little home? Posted Image

Well, Bryce, seeing as MGM just announced they'll be making Basic Instinct 2 with the 80-year-old Sharon Stone, the only thing rising around here is my vomit reflux level. :) :)

According to a post on the AICN Talkback, if Warners has bought MGM it could be great news for Rocky fans. Stallone has wanted to make ROCKY VI for a long time, but MGM (which owns the rights to the series) has shown no interest. Since Sly has a good track record of hits for Warners, perhaps we could see Balboa lace 'up them gloves again. :)

And the way things have been going, I'm starting to think we'll see ROCKY VI before we see BOND 21. No, scratch that, before we even get any reliable BOND 21 news! :)

Of course, all this good movie news aside, it is depressing that the world of global media ownership/control just got a little smaller and more select. And now TW is going after Adelphi cable.

I thought monopolies where illegal in this country. Oh, well, shows what I know.

America has a free press -- anyone can own it. :)

When I was growing up the United Artists logo always meant James Bond to me. You know the one I mean the Transamerica one.

Then in the mid-1980s the MGM Lion made its first appearance in front of a Bond movie.

Now do we get the Warner logo or is MGM going to be allowed to operate as a single entity as Warner allows New Line Cinema to do.

Just think if HEAVENS GATE (1980) had not been a flop we might still just have the UA logo.

With the way things are going, it seems like the bidding will finally end. That in turn I think, will finally fuel a move on with Bond 21. I hope so at least.

I think there are a lot of us who are in that old school that love things as silly as the UA logo. Actually, it's a fun part of being a fan.

My guess is they'd throw up the Warner's logo first, then the traditional UA logo, whatever the current one would be. That way we would keep some continuity.

Well...it's starting to look like this was no more true than AICN's "Bana is Bond" story. Grrrr. That's it for AICN as a source. :)

It's Sony vs. Time Warner...still.

I guess it's now Sony or nothing. Could it be nothing? Or could this be the start of yet another two months of negotiations? :)

You know...could this have all been a ploy to get Sony give in to whatever demands broke down negotiations before -- right down to the strategic "leak" that it was a done deal on Friday?

Please don't even joke about another two months of negotiations :) I don't think I could take it! :)
