We must all agree that A View To A Kill by Duran Duran was the best Bond song of them all, even if you have another favourite Bond song, or you just plain hate Duran Duran! It was the only Bond song to have #1 on the UK charts and #2 on the US charts, breaking an all-time record! (Or was it #1 on US and #2 on UK? Correct me if I'm wrong! :)) I read that bit of information in my CD, "The Best Of James Bond 30th Anniversary".

A View to a Kill -- Duran Duran

US -- #1
UK -- #2

It is the best song, when you base it on the music chart information.

Personally though, no, it's not.

Yeah, this is all pretty easy for me to say, seeing as it is also my favourite Bond song! :)

But that is not the only reason I think it's the best!

What are the other reasons?

I think it's not when it comes to personal choice, because nothing beats Bassey's smooth voice on a song with a slow melody and pace, strong lyrics, and just a very nice style. AKA Moonraker.

Other reasons? Oh no! Those are the only two! :)

1. Because it beat a Bond record.
2. Because I like it!

Oh! One more!

3. Because anything is better than Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! :)

So why AVTAK specifically?

Wouldn't DAD, TWINE, or TMWTGG be equally as good if not better than AVTAK?

Hardly a reason to say A View To A Kill is the best though. :)

In any event, which version of MKKBB are you referring to?

Sorry, I'm kinda confused by your statement! :) I don't really know how to answer that. Help, anyone?

AVTAK is a great song, I don't know if it's the best though. There's been so many great Bond themes though, excluding DAD it just depends on my mood as to which is my favorite. AVTAK, though, is definitely up there if I had to pick...

I think you have those reversed. AVTAK made it to #1 in the U.S. for two weeks in the summer of '85, but I think it stalled at #2 in the UK. I remember because I cheered when I heard this, and I think I even have an old tape of the American Top 40 show where Casey Kasem did a small bit on the history of Bond songs.

I like LALD best of the title songs, but I'd rank AVTAK in the top five if not to three.

Starting with a mediocre non-Bond song and awkwardly swapping out some lyrics for the film

You are right, technically speaking it is the best Bond song, though I think that has more to do with the popularity of Duran Duran than the popularity of James Bond.

But technically speaking the claim that AVTAK is the best Bond song is irrefutable.

When did "best" acquire a new definition of "most successful"?

Best film of all time? Titanic.
Best car on sale? Toyota Corolla.

You think?

Johnboy was wondering, as I can see it, why you'd list that as a reason.

don't agree on this. IMO the best Bond song is Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger or Moonraker.

It is. Dionne Warwick's version is slightly superior to Bassey's effort on the song.

It really fits the main titles.

As for who which Bond song is the best song...that's all subjective really. Everyone has their tastes. I like each and every Bond song, in it's own way. Sure, I might feel that some are better than others, but someone is always going to have a different opinion. Yet, as DLibrasnow alluded to earlier, it is irrefutable that no Bond song, to this day, has achieved as much as 'A View To A Kill'.

A very smart way to put it. No song has gotten #1 in the charts like A View to a Kill by Duran Duran has, but that doesn't make it the "best" Bond song. It makes it the song that charted the highest. Music charts hardly represent everything to say whether a song is or isn't the best for everyone.

For me, the song has both achived the highest spot and sounds the best to my ears, so IMO, it is the best Bond song. I was hoping that this was the case for other Bond fans out there as well.

But as for second place, I would have to go for LALD, because it was the first "rock" Bond song. Everything before that, in Connery's era, was much more "jazzy".

But I can't think of a song which sounds better than AVTAK. :)

Best to the ears...good. Sounds alot better than just because it was #1. :)

A great choice. While trying to stay on topic on Bond music, is her songs overall or just Goldfinger?
