Well, we did it. My buddy got everything he needed while I guarded the shopping cart and managed the checklist. I couldn't resist and picked up a "Lava Vadar", a Target exclusive that you could only get if you were one of the first 30 or so chumps lined up at the door at 6AM (we were). We hit two Targets, two Wal Marts, and one Toys R Us. The first Wal Mart we went to was right down the street from the Black Dahlia murder site. :) The second had set up a tent in the parking lot (we did well there).

When we got back to my friend's place, he unloaded all the bags of his precious goodies and set them down on the garage floor. He then went to move his car...and ran over the bags! LOL. (Nothing irreplaceable was damaged.)

I have a bedroom of old school Star Wars that looks kinda like that. It's a BIG reason I live in a 3 bedroom house!

Funny you should ask, he just sent me an email this morning because I asked the same question yesterday. $705.14 (not including books).

Looks can Mr. Lucas can finally retire...please! :)

There's an article on the Midnight Madness event at www.x-entertainment.com. Pretty fun read (and the site itself is pretty cool as well :)).

That is pretty funny, but I don't think that's completely correct, Jim (or maybe I should tell the BBC). The "Star Wars Line-Up" works with the Grauman's Chinese alongside. They whole line up is a way to raise money for charity. So even if the film doesn't open at the Grauman's Chinese it doesn't really mater. While you're in line you're collecting minutes to determine where you'll be placed in line the final 24 hours before Episode III opens. They can move to the ArcLight the day off if this is the case, but this same "rumor" was going around when "Episode II" came out. But there

Oh you don't have to stay in line the WHOLE time. Basically the time you spend in line is added up which determines where you are in line for the final 24 hours before Episode III opens (you HAVE to be there for the final 24 hours). You can leave and go as you please, but you just have to check in and out with the "score keepers" to make sure you're getting your hours.

OK. It's not often that I have a moan-off, but here's that rare occasion.

I find it ironic that people who treat this franchise so seriously can be so unkind against it's creator.

Whether you want to believe it or not. George Lucas is a genius, and his Star Wars movies are unique, and unsurpassed.

You can believe it not, but Lucas has done more for the movie industry that re-releasing his movies every so often. He's invented a advanced sound system that enhances most of the movies we see today.

You've got to agree that this man, and Steven Spielberg has made so much improvement in how we see and hear movies. Even if we do not agree with their movies, the movies that are enhanced by Lucas's innovative sound canvass are so much better for his input.

I like Star Wars, but I'm not a lover. However, making these movies, Lucas has found the ( now ) ultimate sound and visual experience of almost every movie goer.

Cheers,

S. Spielberg. :)

That's one of my criticisms with Lucas. He's waited far too long to finish this series.

OK, it's taken this long to get the necessary special effects that he envisioned, but, the quality of his last two efforts have been restricted to special effects only.

I'm talking about what he's done to the entertainment industry in quality of vision and sound.

Good post Athena, and I agree 100%.

David Prowse SHOULD of played Darth Vader, and it's an ignorance by Mr Lucas not to do so.

However, as I have not seen this new episode yet, it's hard to tell if just having a muscle man in a suit is viable.

Cheers,

Well, I don't think Mark Hamill was a weak leading ma, though in A NEW HOPE he did act a little cheesy, but he still was charismatic cinematic hero. Without Hamill's effort, the first three films wouldn't have been successful, I assure you. He was a cinematic icon, for pete's sake. :). THough I agree with you Athena that Lloyd and Christanson were pretty lame/

I agree, Hayden Christenson in that costume looks kinda brittle and uncomfortable. :)

Oh I do like Mark Hamill in the films. It's just he's not as strong of an actor as his co-stars (my point being, weak[er] leading men). But yes... he's defiantly a cinematic icon :)

I know what you mean, Athena, and I have to agree with you.

Taking this thought even further, I think that what George Lucas produced with the prequels is a crass "demystification" of the original saga.
These movies take away the weight and the magic of this fantastic trilogy.

It's like art: you walk through a museum and you're in awe of a beautiful painting. You enjoy it because you don't know how to paint such things; it's just special to you.
But once you've learned how to paint, the way you look at the very same painting changes (I've experienced it myself). You know now exactly that there's nothing magical about painting. You know how the artist did it and it dissapoints you a bit, restricts your imagination.
In the worst case, this painting you had the wildest fantasies about, becomes something ordinary and you notice all the small inconsistancies that might be there.

It's the very same thing with Star Wars.
Take Darth Vader as a prime example. You used to know him as an evil, mercyless leader, the archetype bad-:) villain.
You had the wildest fantasies about his past, his childhood, his home, his other adventures and so on.
Now we have the complete backstory, and in the worst case, future generations will always associate him with Hayden Christiansen and his funny eyes.

It's exactly what Athena said: it makes him human, and therefor weak. I know that weak characters are popular today, but we're talking about the phenomenon "Darth Vader"!

And the picture posted above shows that painfully; he lost any dignity he had and turns into an action figure.

Now some good news. If you click the following link, you'll find three Film Score Monthly members discussing the first 9 tracks from the ROTS Soundtrack:

That shot is a publicity shot. It looks cheesy but he won't be doing that in ROTS. he's supposed to have about 2 minutes of screen time and that's it. And I think it's a good idea to have HC wear the costume because it helps the audience accept him as Vader...he aslo becomes Vader before the armour too. So, he was angst ridden teen and annoying kid but he's now one evil bastard.I felt Vader was demystified in Jedi anyway, with that humpty dumpty face which was sooo dissapointing. Anyway, I'm seeing ROTS with an open mind. The trailor looks fantastic.

And I agree the prequels have degraded the classic films but oh well..I'll just own 3 or maybe 4 SW films depending on this one.

Oh my God that shot of Vader is...well, I won't say it, but LucasFilm needs to bury that pic DEEP in the archives. Unless that's the best shot they got. Yikes. What is this instinct Lucas has for emasculating his icons?

Jude Law should have been Anakin. Hayden Christen is very good in movies like Shattered Glass, but he really wasn't the best choice for Star Wars, IMO.

And, yes, David Prowse IS Darth Vader and he MUST be the one in the suit always. I don't need Hayden in the suit to help me make the transition. I understand that the very non-Hayden bulk of the suit is all the new machinery. He's now half machine. But having a skinny Vader in Sith, even if it's just for 2 mins, makes the appearance of the Prowse Vader in the "next" film jarring. Are they suggesting the machinery "grew up." Silly.

Lucas sucks...now where do I buy my ticket. :)

I wonder if the helmut looks like E4 Vader or E5/6 Vader. I noticed a subtle difference...he looks more sleek and shiney in V and VI....Anyway, that's just a publicity still for the biktillionth time! Probably to sell toys! sheesh.

A friend of mine thought it would have been cool if Vader was a little different in Sith. Vader Mark I. His suggestion -- and I really liked this idea -- was to still have the familiar Vader face mask (which is the breathing apparatus and should be the same), but instead of the helmet on top (which doesn't make sense really as that is an Empire era helmet) he would just have a hooded cloak, like Maul and Sidious. The Vader face in a cloak. That would have been interesting (and logical).

But, of course, then you don't have the very familiar Vader image to slap on cereal boxes and isn't that what Star Wars is really all about?

Lucas sucks...now where do I buy my Vader Cheerios.
