Hi, this is from TheForce.net:

Star Wars In 3D

Posted By Philip on March 18, 2005
As reported earlier, yesterday at ShoWest, the focus was on 3D and there was an impressive panel of guests to talk about it. A big surprise was the announcement by George Lucas that he is planning to release the entire saga in 3D for for the 30th anniversary in 2007.

Read all about that and more on 3D at Worldenteractive.com.

Additionally, Joseph Kleiman from World Enteractive told me Lucas is hoping to release the movies one per year or two, starting the summer of 2007. (They originally reported one per month).

-----------------------------------

Here is the Link to the original story:

http://www.worldente...e.com/lucas.htm

This sounds very cool as James Cameron was also present and also has an interest in this technology as George Lucas; I believe the SW films in 3-D done right could be a blast!

Regards.

Egads! I don't need Star Wars in 3-D. It gives me a headach to just think about.

Hey, George, how about a special re-release of the films without all the added garbage? "Star Wars: How You Remember It!"

Now THAT I would pay to see.

I agree with you zencat! But you know George Lucas, he just can't leave well enough alone. I presume that we will see Version 4.0 of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi with additional CGI "surprises", tweaks, and "improvements" to the the films so that distributors can get audiences back in the theaters for the 30th Anniversary.

Will we see the scenes at Toshi station? Luke flying the skyhopper? Will Han shoot first again? Will all the stormtroopers be voiced by Temuera Morrison? Version 3.0 of the CGI Jabba the Hutt? CGI Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back? Will we learn the fate of General Veers? The Tatooine sandstorm? Will Anakin's force ghost revert back to actor Sebastian Shaw?

I also presume that George Lucas has his minions at ILM toiling at this very moment on extra CGI for the "Even More Special Than the Last Time Editions" of all six films for the their release on whichever high definition home video format prevails: HD-DVD or Blu-Ray Disc.

Star Wars 3-D? I'm now convinced his lucas' fantasy alter ego isn't Luke or Han but rather Palpatine/Emperor/Darth Sideous. They two men are remarkably similiar.

George, let's move on shall we? How about some new :)?

Pretty amazing how a man can continue to make a living revising and tweaking the same three movies over thirty years. :)

Id rather call it "Star Wars: The way you cared about it".

I hope Lucas' gets his face cut off by a 3D editing machine.

Coming soon the Special, Special Edition Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Release of the Classic Star Wars Trilogy where the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks and the phrase "Dark Side" has been replaced with "Bad Side" to be politically correct in our extremely sensitive day and age...

Ditto to all the acid being thrown around. I'll add:

1. I want Young Indiana Jones on DVD, with the old Indy restored as a framing element. He went missing on the VHS tapes. No, I didn't like the "cute" kid, but Sean Patrick Flannery was pretty good (as were the stories).

2. Did we need the added effects on THX 1138? I think not.

Hey, we should revise George. Replace him with a CGI character.

Or maybe someone already has? :)

www.thedigitalbits.com is reporting plans for the rerelease of the STAR WARS trilogy in 3-D for 2007:

"Morning everyone! Some interesting news for you Star Wars fans today. Remember how we said (on Tuesday) that James Cameron and George Lucas were going to be part of a digital 3-D projection presentation at ShoWest this week? Well, it happened yesterday. Joseph Kleiman of the World Enteractive was there and posted a report on his site. Joining Cameron and Lucas on stage were filmmakers Robert Zemeckis, Robert Rodriguez and Randall Kleiser, along with Doug Darrow, Business Development Manager for TI DLP Cinema. During the presentation, Lucas announced his plans to re-release the Star Wars Trilogy in 3-D for the original film's 30th anniversary in 2007."

Doesn't exist. The original theatrical release editions from 1977, 1980 and 1983 don't exist anymore.

Just got my CLONE WARS Season 1 DVD, and I just now watched the first episode of Season 2 on the Cartoon Network. Some sweet, sweet Star Wars. These blow away the prequel movies, IMO.

"Already, the movie world is gearing up for its own goodbye. Fans are stocking tents and packing supplies for a weeks-long encampment outside theaters. Merchandisers are cranking out everything from Sith action figures to video games to clothing in a retail flood expected to reach $1.5 billion in sales."

Pretty interesting article Tarl.

Sorry...but as has been quoted by representatives of Lucasfilm, when they said (in the mid-1990s) that that release (on VHS) was going to be the last chance to own the original theatrical release editions of the movies, they were not kidding.

The original (ie 1977, 1980 and 1983) theatrical releases no longer exist - that's the word from Lucasfilm.

To be honest, I haven't seen any movie in 3-D, and that includes "Friday the 13th: Part 3" "Spy Kids: 3-D" (the latter film gave away cheap glasses, I remebered!) and all of those silly 50's popcorn flicks.

Now, "Star Wars" is going to be 3-D? I sense Lucas pick-pocketing our wallets again...

To be fair, 3-D is great if it is done correctly. However the only time I have really experienced great 3-D is at DisneyWorld with the "Bugs Life" and "Honey I Shrunk The Audience" movies.

The BUGS LIFE one really freaked me out. I remember trying to swat the bug that "seemed" to be hovering right in front of me.

You almost scared me, Tarl. :)

No offense, but there are some real sickos out there who'll dare to wait for 2 or 3 months in line for that film. Think about it, people's libidos are at stake! :)

It's not that some of them have a sex life, anyway. Pretty much making love to a Princess Leia inflatable doll or something. :)

Pardon my humor.
