I like the TV show "Monk" and while I hope no one here is THAT obsessive I'm sure we all do little things that some may consider suspiciously as being a tad obsessive compulsive in nature.

I'm only bringing this up because yesterday my wife mentioned that whenever I return a CD/DVD/CD-ROM back to its case I always seem to make sure the label is the right way up. I had to check quite a few in my collection to believe her.

:)

Good grief! They all seemed spirit level perfect! I even caught myself trying to straighten a CD even though the center clasp was a bit loose and it wouldn't stay in place.

Dare you to share your little obsessive compulsive thang.
:)

I JUST have to make sure the bullet hits right in between the eyes, or I'll go nuts!

:)

Seriously, I'm not realy sure I have an obsessive compulsive things, although, I proably have, but it would have to be pointed out to me by someone else :).

My mouse-mat and coaster on my computer desk have to be level with the corners they reside in.

I also like to make sure lots of things are at neat right angles where possible. This doesn't include CDs though!

Ah yes, my CDs need to be neatly classified by genre or I'll freak out.

I have more Adrian Monk habits than I'm comfortable with.
I carry a pack of wet-wipes to meetings, which I'll surreptitiously use after shaking the sticky hands of a dozen sweaty strangers. The wipes are also handy if your hot desking, as there's nothing as manky as shared telephones and computer equipment.

I also have to check everything's switched off half a dozen times before I leave the house in the morning. Drives the wife mad. :)

My DVDs, CDs, videogames, and books must always be properly organized:

That sounds very familiar, Jack. I do that too. :)

Ah, excellent - so I'm in good company! I mean, I guess it isn't so weird that I do it, so much as how my things must ALWAYS be in proper order. As a joke, my friends often switch around my DVDs and screw up the placement...those punks...

With many things, such as books, CD's, DVD's etc, I am an organization freak and a perfectionist. :)

I used to always wash my hands alot, just like Monk.

And yes, I always organize my Bond memorabilla, but surprisingly, nothing else.

I do the same thing that you do, Blofeld's Cat. Besides keeping the labels right side up, I have to have my CDs in alphabetical order by artist and chronologically if I have more than one album by that artist. As for my books, I arrange them by height (except for the Bond novels which are in chronological order by author). The tallest books on the left and the smallest books on the right. Any books, magazines, etc. that are sitting out have to be neatly stacked, at right angles, from smallest to largest. Largest at the bottom, smallest at the top And my DVDs are arranged alphabetical as well.

If you open my closet you'll see all my clothes are hanging according to type and color.

I keep my dollar bills in serial number order, and then in denominational order.

My personal CDs are in alaphabetical order, and my bookshelf is in order by author, and also by the designation "World Authors" "American" "British" and "Literary Criticism."

I have been in love three times, and my momentos from those endeavors, are kept in three separate boxes.

And finally, when I want to ward off evil spirits I knock on wood three times.

It really isn't that weird is it?

I line up pencils evenly inline while I sharpen them.

Playing sports is where I am most quirky.

Tap the cleats twice with the bat before stepping the box.

Remove my hat and wipe my forehead after every pitch.

Kiss the bat before a clutch at-bat.

I've always seem to make sure my lock for my locker from school is actually locked. I check it about 4 or 5 times because one time all my stuff was stolen.

Hmmm.

If you are doing a combination of what we do, I think you might have fallen into the HABIT of outmonking, Monk. Out of the monk, into the fryer, for you.

First one: you're a nutter.

Second one: not so much obsessive compulsive as obscenely pretentious

I can sympathise with those who ensure things are switched off; don't like seeing an electrical socket with the power on, if there's no plug in it.

  • I constantly vacuum the carpets after my cats come in from outside
  • I always have to check that my trouser flies are done up as I stand waiting for the bus in the morning
  • Before using a toilet at work I always have to wet some tissue using tap water, wipe the seat down with it and then wipe the seat dry with more tissue
  • If I go out into the back garden to feed the guinea pigs etc then not only do I have to try the garage door to see if I locked it after the last time I used the garage, despite the fact that I hardly ever go in the garage, but also check that the outside tap has been fully turned off, even though I can clearly see that the tap is not dripping
  • Whenever I hear a vehicle drive down my road, I have to look out the windown and check that it's not the Post Office trying to deliver a parcel to me
  • Alternatively if I see a person walk past my front window then I have to get up and look out the window to see if they are coming to visit me

For some odd reason I always have to take a #2 after I get home form school. Am I allowed to say "#2" here?

I do that CD/DVD label thing.
Also, I can't stand it when things aren't straight and so I have to adjust them.
The volume on my TV/Stereo has to be an even number (that one's a bit weird I know).

1. My DVD collection is in alphabetical order.

2. New DVDS: until they are completely viewed, I mean audio commentary and all bonus features, then they are not allowed on the DVD shelf with the finished DVDS. I maintain a separate pile for the incomplete DVDS.

3. CDS: Like others, are sorted by category.

4. Books: are sorted by category, the Bond books have their own bookcase.

5. Things must be organized, but can be messy. (I can't stand it if I can't find something but a bit of dust on a table doesn't bother me; not that I'm living in filth, mind you--cleaning is just not the TOP priority).

6. My golf clubs are kept in numerical order in the bag.

Hmmm, I seem to be posting more than others. Better stop now before I seem like a total nutcase.

It's a matter of principal to wipe the toilet seat before you use it in my book. Anyone could have piddled on it and I don't much fancy the tought of somebody else's urine on my behind. It's bad enough when it's my own. :)
