How's it going on contacting Craig, Evan? Oh and Mr. Clink, have you yet received permission from the author of Death of a Shadow?

Good news, I have heard back from Shirin Shahbazi and she has given permission for her story Death of a Shadow to be part of the collection. I mentioned the opportunity for her to revise, but she didn't bring it up in her reply. I can touch base again as the time grows closer.

Maybe I can turn my attention to getting out the copy of DOTRAB to Mister * that I was supposed to give him ages ago. Sorry, Evan :) .

That's great news. Also, if you can, try to get her to write a brief intro to the story like al did. I think it'd be nice if we had them for all the stories.

Ok. If I'm not mistaken we now have, with the exception of Diamond Cut Diamond, a copy of and permission for the use of each story.
We also have the title "From A Scream To A Sigh" which was recommended by Hawkeye and I'm sure Mr. * has begun work on ideas for a cover or if not, then perhaps he'd like our ideas.

Anyway, to try and speed this up a bit more (sorry but it seems to be taking forever;)) what we now need a brief intros to the stories by the authors. I already have one for Passing Through but has anybody else managed to get any? Or in the case of Clink, write one? :)

I shall ask Double-Oh-Zero if he'd like to write a little introduction to his story. :)

IMO, we should go minimalist. Have very little on the cover but the essentials. Obviously we need the good old PPK, a Martini Glass perhaps and maybe a couple pictures relating to one or two of the stories. I don't think it should be overly cluttered, just basic yet still interesting.

Sounds like a great idea to me...or perhaps a very small item or element relating to all or some of the short stories included in the collection?

How about a minimalist chopping style cover a la FYEO. Or perhaps a Chopping style jacket with just the PPK and one live in-bloom flower and one decidedly dead shrivelled flower (a scream of life and a sigh of death being the image i had in my head). Failing that i'd love Mr* to do another Fahey style cover cos JAK for JIMS was top notch and the beautiful part is you'd get a pretty lady on the cover.
But whatever mr* coms up with i'm sure will be fine - there are no bad covers by him that i've seen.

That's excellent Qwerty. We now have two complete sets of a final story and an intro. What's happening with everyone else though? The progress we've been making on this has been unbelievably slow. I mean, I understand that some writers may take longer to respond but a few updates every now and then to let me know where we are at would be nice.

Right, I'm going on holiday next week and by the time I get back, it would be nice if we had everything so that we can put this thing together.

What we are waiting on are:

Diamond Cut Diamond - Permission, Intro, Final Story
Death of a Shadow - Intro, Final Story
Death Styles of the Rich and Blameless - Intro, Final story

Passing Through and The Lingering Fate are done, we have the permission, the final drafts and the intros. It is the responsibilty of the person who nominated the stories to ensure we have everything.

It will be excellent though when this is finally finished and we can read all of this, I'm really looking forward to that.

Sounds like you're getting down, Tanger. Here's my perscrpition: grab a pint and plug in a few Monty Python episodes, works every time for me.

Mister * has both my story and my intro. I'm still waiting word back on the intro for Death of a Shadow, but it did take Shirin four days to get back with me the first time. Just hazarding a guess, but she may not be in a situation where she has constant access to the internet.

Relax, Tanger, this is going much faster than similar projects. Over at M16 it takes a year to complete a collection. Writers are not good deadline people by nature, even former journalists :) .

It does take a year at MI6 but there is a reason for that. Production on the anthology goes on for most of the year for Artwork, Writing (of couse), planning, recuriting writers. And there are many authors, usually 10+ delivering new stories which is hard to publish because of all the other fan fics/news stories/articles being published on MI6 . I do agree with you though, I am not a deadline person either. :)

The anthology here sonds interesting. I'll be sure to give it a read when it comes out.

Not down Mr. Clink, just frustrated. It was appalling imo that only three members of the FFRC plus Mr. * decided to contribute; first of all. Secondly, the stories are already out there so it's not as if we're waiting for them to be written. All we needed was premission to use them and a brief intro from the authors. Can you really see that taking more than a few weeks?

We haven't got that much more to go so we must try and get it asap.
Keep me updated on what's happening clinkeroo and Mr. *, any update on the progress you've made would be appreciated.

I didn't nominate stories as i'm not a member of the FFRC. I threw in title ideas and covers just because i linger round these boards and saw it was open for suggestions. I don't get enough time (tho i have more now - uni done for summer) to read all the diff fan-fics, tho i download all the ones that take my fancy and add them to the reading pile. I also don't like reading stories on screen much, i prefer to print them and if they are top quality try and get them bound as books. Not an easy task, nor one i can do regular. But what i have read up to yet has thrilled me and so i lurk around these boards looking for new reading matter all the time, even if it's over a year before i read them. Just wanted to clear up any slights i may have caused thru lack of involvement and sticking my nose in on the forum for FFRC members.

Don't worry, Hawkeye, comment wherever and whenever you want. The FFRC is a pretty loose bunch. Discussion is still open on all of the stories we've read, so if you get a chance to read, just drop by and share your thoughts, there are no real constraints.

Maybe a break will allow some of our original folks, and new readers, to read and comment on those stories they may have missed. Now that the genie appears to be out of the bottle on Bond fan fiction (as long as the IFF remains silent on the issue), I think we're going to see an explosion in the number of stories that are out there. For me, this is a double-edged pen, for there will be more to read, but alas, much of it will be video-game/movie-inspired, shooter, superhero claptrap written by folks who think that a Fleming is a small arctic critter that runs off cliffs en masse.. All the more reason for there to be reviews and opinions published so that one can navigate the world of Bond fan fiction without becoming too mired in the ****.

Needless to say, there will be a place for the FFRC, and our membership is as wide as there are people willing to read and comment.

I echo those thoughts by Clink, I'd like to see more members join this club and do some reading and reviewing with us.

Mr*,

If you don't manage to get hold of the chap who wrote 'Diamond Cut Diamond' for permission, intro etc, might i suggest using 'Finders Keepers' as the 5th story in the collection. I though it was a very good read and would be nice to have it published on CBn.

Sorry Hawkeye. I'd already decided that this would not be included. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent story, but this collection was to get some of the lesser known pieces read.

Any news on Diamond Cut Diamond Mr. *? I really am set on getting it in the collection.

Had a reply from Shirin yet clinkeroo?

Excellent. So, bar Shirin's intro, we have everything then. I can't wait to finally get this thing put together.

That reminds me, have you given any thought to the order in which the stories will be placed? I'm guessing that the order in which they were cleared would be suitable enough. That was:

Death of a Shadow
Passing Through
The Lingering Fate
Deathstyles of the Rich and Blameless
Diamond Cut Diamond

No, no reply yet. I'll rifle off another email, and if that one is still born, we may have to write off her intro for the time being.

I would think due to the subject matter, that Death of a Shadow would be a good one to end the collection with, and for the same reason, might not be the best lead in option. Once again though, this is Evan's baby, and Tanger would appear to be the father :) , so I'll leave the decisions in your gentlemen's able hands.

Cool. looking forward to seeing this up and running. Have you had any thoughts on the cover design Mr *?

On another note, for the FFRC, A. Hixson's 'Forever A Spy' looks a quality read. I read the first few chapters and in my humble opinion it's a huge step forward from his previous Bond novel which after several chapters had not prompted me to read to it's conclusion. Check it out chaps.

That order seems fine enough but do we really need two that begin with 'death' next to each other? That's why I tried to separate them a bit more. If that's the order that works best though then go with it.
