Best and Worst Scores

7. The Man With the Golden Gun- Not only was the song lackluster, but Barry, admittedly, called it some of his worst work, do to the few weeks he had to score the film.
6. For Your Eyes Only- Even though the title song should have won the Oscar, and it blends in perfectly with the Greek themes of the film, some of the score, like during the Ski Chase, is so loud, that it drowns out the action and parts of the sequences.
5. The Spy Who Loved Me- Like FYEO, the title song fits with the mood of the film, and the disco overtones are great, however, some choices with the score, like the cheesy big-band "Nobody Does it Better," at the end of the film bring it down.
4. Octopussy- The score for this film is phenomenal, bringing genuine suspense, and causes spine-tingling sensations. It is rich and classy, yet exotic, fitting in for every scene. The title-song is exceptional, but compared to the most of the other Moore Bond Songs, it is smaller than life, and disappointing (by Bond Standards anyways)
3. Live And Let Die- The theme song, which is incorporated greatly into the score is phenomenal, and without a doubt, the best Bond song. Every scene the catchy instrumental is played in is automatically elevated to a higher level. The 'Blaxploitation' twist to the James Bond theme brings the score higher, however, if different music was played during the boat-chase, the film's highlight, then it would be near-perfect.
2. A View To A Kill- The theme song, by Duran Duran, ranks as one of the series' best, and the instrumental version played through the film expresses the mood of each scene without flaw. The main score, which was played over the PTS, the Fire Truck Chase, and the Climactic Golden Gate Bridge fight is perfect is every way. In case you haven't figured it out, the one thing holding the film's score back is, of course, the "California Girls," over the PTS. This kind of "abomination" has no place in a Bond film.
1. Moonraker- This score is perfect. It has all of the right elements, and it fits every scene in which it's played. The inclusion of the '007 Theme,' in the speed-boat chase is memorable, and is a wise choice. The Theme Song is one of Bassey's best, and it is no mistake when its various incarnations are played throughout the film, especially the angelic vocalization coinciding Bond's arrival to Rio De Janeiro. The haunting music played over the outer-space military battle is effective.
What do you guys think of the scores? What's your favorite?

There is not a thing wrong abor Moonraker's score, except that not more of it is on the CD!
Octopussy's score seemd to be a bit held back compared to others, with it's action music not as loud, but it works wonderfully. The suspense music is excellent with such tracks as 'Palace Fight.'
All the others are great too, with FYEO having some nice standout tracks, but these four are my tops of his.

I'm judging by the whole scores not just by title songs. I really love Martins arrangement of the Bond theme in LALD, his whole score in fact I just love.

In the world of 007 film composers, John Barry rules.

Hamlish's Bond 77 cue is one of the best in my opinion. Barry's love themes to Moonraker are his best. Octopussy's cues are the most atmospheric of Barry's scores - Arrival At The Island Of Octopussy / Bond At The Monsoon Palace. For Your Eyes Only is another very refreshing score and contains some brilliant cues in particular; St. Cyril's Monastery.
1. Live And Let Die
2. Moonraker
3. Octopussy
4. For Your Eyes Only
5. Man With The Golden Gun

Wonderful, "flighty" light score. Great romantic theme.
2) A View To A Kill
Awesome score. If only the movie lived to it. Great romantic theme.
3) Octopussy
Some great suspence stuff. "Chase Bond theme" one of the best 80's Bond tracks. Again, romantic theme is wonderful. I love the "lyrical" (I guess that's the word) themes.
4) For Your Eyes Only
Gotta be THE most underrated Bond score of all time. I don't get why, but oh well. So it's a tad discoy, I think it has a ton of diversity and serves the film perfectly.
5) The Spy Who Loved Me
Love the Atlantis music. Bond 77 is awesome.
6) Live and Let Die
Good. For a long time I thought it was Barry.
7) The Man With The Golden Gun
Bland like the movie. I try to listen to the CD, but it brings back so many bad memories of the movie.

2. Octopussy ( I think John Barry totally stepped up his game after he saw how well Bill Conti did.. I think he got worried and came with both barrels and his "A" Game!! This soundtrack is just beautiful and gives you chills)
3. Moonraker ( The main title theme is Shirley Bassey's best work! the recording technques were at a top level back then before all the computers made things flat sounding! The son is simple but shows range and she just makes a simple song amazing!!! Also that "other bond theme" is used in this one the ONLY time it was used in a Roger film.. and I love how that slowed it down!!!)
4. AVTAK ( This is why I LOVE Roger Moore's 007 Films the best! They didn't worry about showing that era's trends in music! They didn't make fake 1960's music.. like they did in Pierces.. I love that Duran Duran was alloud to do their own style NOT like getting Garbage and making them do a slow boring 1960's sean era song... Plus all th instrumentals were great John Barry really got his juices back after leaving for a few.)
5. LALD ( Wings!!! come on!! FINALLY the 007 crew embraces something different! All of seans music which is good.. but the same! They act like the Rat Pack always ruled and just ignored The Beatles??? soooo with a New Bond they showed New Music & yes there is beautiful that are ethnic
6. TSWLM ( I love the main title theme.. it is probably the best one! I always think of Roger and smile when I hear the first few chords
7. TMWTGG ( I like the main theme and the "asian feel" it is I just dont' like it as much as the others.. but it is nice.. there really isn't any awful Scores! they did a amazing job in the Roger Moore Era

Ah, it just wouldn't be a complete thread without some sort of Arnold-bashing, now would it, DLibra?Whataver you think of the Moore scores...none of them are as bad as the pap that David Arnold passes as a score these days.
But since we are just talking about the scores of the Moore era, I'll stick with the topic at hand:
To be quite honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Moore Bond scores - not that I dislike them. Most of them just have little re-play value for me. Although, I'm a huge fan of the Live and Let Die score. It's very enjoyable, with some great themes, and it's just so much fun to listen to. A View To A Kill is also rather good, again, with more good themes.

I actually got my first soundtracks this year for christmas!! FYEO & Octopussy..
But now that I think about it my father bought a "best of" cassette in the eary 1980's.. They actually have a longer version of "nobody does it better" on there! ..or maybe just a better mix of it?
I still have it..
