How are you a Roger fan with your Posting Name???????

Umm, it's very simple, my friend.
I am a HUGE Roger Moore fan.
I saw his Bond films first, own a couple Saint vidoes and I think his style, wit, charm, humour and overall performance as Bond has never been equalled.
However, while admittedly I am a
fan, what I am
NOT is some blind worshipper of all things Roger Moore. So I can still be honest and objective about things, and truthfully, his face lift was absolutely horrid. Just check out AVTAK.
And NO, frankly, I dont care what respected Bond historian John Brosnan says. Moore looked waaay better in Octopussy than he did in AVTAK. That's a fact. If Brosnan or anyone else truly belives Moore looks better in AVTAK than he did in FYEO or Octopussy, well, then they obviously havent watched the film very much.
Thinner? Maybe a tad.
But better looking? Not on your life.
Listen, this may sound like rubbish, but I have watched AVTAK over at least 100 times and I am not joking. Seriously. It is my favorite film of all time and although the plot is half baked, Walken is bland, Grace is frightening and Roger is hideous, I think it's all part of the movie's campy charm and it truly adds to make it a part of the enjoyable cult classic that it is.
In Octopussy, Roger looked like the handsome pretty boy we all knew and loved. Just like The Saint, only older. Then in AVTAK his face was pulled tight and the skin on his face is all sun damaged and appears to be made out of pigskin. Not to mention, his eyes are all wierd looking, too.
As the Washington Post noted in their review of AVTAK, Moore's recent facial work and "what looks like an eye job has given him the pie-eyed blankness of a zombie".
So true.
However, this handicap is not so bad. In fact, I think it is a testament to Roger Moore's one-of-a-kind talents that he was still able to carry the film on his charm alone, without the help of his once dashing good looks.
Could Pierce do the same?
Carry a movie on the strengths of his acting talents alone? Without his dashing looks? Doubtful. Trust me, I rented Evelyn. Extreeemely doubtful.
In some scenes Roger still manages to kind of look dashing (such as where he puts the moves on Tanya at Zorins party), but there are alot of scene wherein something just strikes me as off. He looks really well, just plain "different".
But, please, don't take my word for it. See for yourself.
This is most notable in the opening MoneyPenny scene wherein Roger states "..the trip to Siberia took alot out of me".
Check out the scene for yourself. Look how wierd his eyes looks. Obviously an eye tuck of some sort.
Its also very noticeable in the scene in City Hall wherein Zorin kills Mr. Howe and Bond says "Herr Doctor Mortner would be proud of his creation".
See for yourself!
Roger looks like an alien!!
Roger looks different in AVTAK. This is true. (and NO, its not just that he's mole-less either). But the movie is still primarily held together by his charm and wonderful personality. Lord knows its not held together by the script!!
Heck, I would have even liked Roger to have stuck around for another movie or two. That's how strong of a screen presence he has. Unlike Pierce, there is more to Roger than just boyish good looks.
Any true fan knows that.
And any TRUE fan of any celebrity can tell when their favorite actor or actress has had botched plastic surgey and has altered their looks to a degree.
And any *T-R-U-E* Roger fan can see this in his face, acknowlege it, accept the changes, love the celebrity all the same and have a sense of humor about it (hence, my username) and still most of all, be a loyal fan.
4UrEyezOnly- If my username was "Roger_Moore's_Good_Facelift", well, then your question would most certainly be valid. Because honestly, how can anyone truly be a Roger fan and call themselves such, without noting or ever acknowledging the terrible plastic surgery that so dramatically altered his once dashing looks and quite possibly factored in him losing the role of a lifetime?
To those that wish to argue and claim that Roger was gonna quit the role anyways immediately after AVTAK, I say this unto you; Roger had cried wolf so so many times before saying "THIS will be my last Bond movie". I don't believe for a second that he was serious about quiting this time either. Last time I checked plastic surgey is supposed to make you look younger, not older. Hence, the job was botched and it certainly factored into all the critics slamming him for his age and saying things such as.."Roger isn't only long in tooth, he's got tusks!!!" Roger didn't look nearly as old in Octopussy as he did in AVTAK. If he didn't go and get that face lift and wasn't ridiculed by almost every critic in the free world, then I have a hunch Moore would have gone on for perhaps at least another movie and maybe much more. Who knows?
