Anybody else picking up the Indiana Jones trilogy on DVD on Tuesday? I plan on buying mine at lunchtime.

I haven't been a huge fan of the series over the years, but I am excited about getting these. When these films came out it was probably the first time the Bond series had a run for its money in the action/adventure department that wasn't sci-fi or fantasy-based.

I'll be at my local Best Buy tomorrow at 10am.
Not only the 4 DVD set, but Best Buy is enclosing a special 5th DVD with extra goodies.

Tuesday? I've just bought the box set here in the UK.

Now, the big question is....

Do I watch 'em in chronological order (starting with TEMPLE OF DOOM, then moving on to RAIDERS and LAST CRUSADE) or the order in which they were made?

Decisions, decisions....:)

As much as i like the first film I am not prepared to pay for two other films that I will never watch. Well perhaps the first half hour of TOD but that's it. I don't like these boxed sets that force us to buy movies we don't want. I'd rather have single releases and then choose. Same goes for the upcoming Alien 9 DVD megaboxset thingy! However, I will buy this as the percentage of bad film is far outweighed by good ones;)

I'll be getting both the Indy box set and the Alien box set, funds permitting. I've been looking forward to the Indy one especially for some time and I've recently become a fan of the Alien movies.

Paramount did the exact same thing two years ago when they released The Godfather boxed set. They wouldn't sell them as individual movies either. Why in the world would a studio think it would profit more by holding back certain films from individual release? That would just serve to turn more people off, I think.

Loomis, I think the U.S. timetable as far as release differs from that of the U.K. and other countries. I think you get your new releases on Mondays or something and over here it's always on Tuesday, with a few exceptions here and there. Spider-Man I think was released on a Friday, for instance.

I'll be picking mine up at "Best Buy" tomorrow...Not because of the 5th disc though because I have heard there is only one 10-minute extra on that extra disc circa 1981, and its kinda naff!

Yes, we tend to get new DVDs, CDs and so on on Mondays. A recent exception was the MATRIX RELOADED DVD, which hit shops on a Friday. Quite why there are these exceptions I don't know.:)

Well, having decided to watch the INDYs in chronological order, I've just sat through the much-maligned TEMPLE OF DOOM for the first time in quite a few years. I've always liked it, and nearly 20 years on (crikey, how time flies) it plays better than ever, especially by comparison to all the ripoffs and lame action movies that followed it, in particular the many CGI-stuffed yawnfests of recent years. It's far from a great film, but it boasts a reasonably witty script and lively performances, and it is, of course, directed by one of the all-time masters, Spielberg - what more could you want? TOD also has, IMO, perhaps the most dazzling first half hour of any Spielberg picture.

Unfortunately, the UK box set contains the same old censored version of TOD, with the ripping-out-the-heart scene heavily edited.:) The DVD transfer is good, but not great, with terrific sound providing some degree of compensation for picture quality that's nothing to write home about. And I noticed - and forgive me, but I'm about to make an observation that's very, very geeky indeed - that the closing credits are in red lettering, and I could have sworn that they were always in white. Strange. Redone for DVD, I wonder?

Yes, I'll be getting my set sometime this week. I also will be getting the 5th disc, although it's from the Canadian equivalent of Best Buy, Future Shop. Apparently, though, the promised bloopers and deleted scenes were removed from the bonus disc. Although I hear there's a ton of Easter Eggs in the set.

The word is that the fifth disc has a 10-minute promo piece from 1981 for "Raiders of the Lost Ark" which is simple fluff. That is reportedly the sole item on that 5th disc from "Best Buy".

Is there a site with decent details of what the extras are, zencat?

The biggest fringe benefit for me buying DVD's are the delicious extras.

There is a feature length documentary on the making of the saga...

Brett, I would check out the review of the set on www.dvdfile.com where they do a detailed review of all the extras.

One docco and 4 featurettes. They really lashed out this time. :)

Hope they are new one and not rehashed ones seen on TV already. I need to read the review further.

Sweet.

I didn't hear what was on the extra disc, just that there was going to be one. I'd check out that site too, but I think I'll just wait for my set. :)

My ex-girlfriend worked on this set, btw. It was a HUGE job.

The feature length documentary is all new, the dvdfile reviewer even mentioned that it made up for the lack of audio commentaries (which Spielberg refuses to do for any of his movies).

Yep, the 2-hour docco sounds like a real winner.

I'll get the set just for that alone.

That's the best price I have seen...Since there is no Eckerds near here I went to Best Buy and consoled myself with the fact that at least I have that 10-minute promotional piece from 1981.

I have it! I have it!!! I can't wait to get home tonight and dive into that nice juicy feature length documentary!

I actually took one of the spare Amray keepcases that we have lying around here at the office and put the fifth disc in that (it came in a rather cheap plastic cover from 'Best Buy').
I then took the sticky flyer that was attached to the back of the set, cut it to fit the Amray dimensions and put that in as the cover.
That way I can display the fifth DVD along with the other four.

Got mine today at lunch too. Heard a rumor about Wal Mart selling it for what Eckerd's was, but there is no Eckerd's around where I live in Ohio, so I opted for the Best Buy for the extra disc, although it's not a really big deal. For an extra dollar, you can get a free 12-pack of Dr. Pepper at Target as your bonus, though.

A couple of DVD Web sites I go to have said there were some areas of this set that could have done better. No commentaries and Lucas and/or Spielberg were rumored to not want any deleted scenes. It's easy to Monday morning quarterback DVD releases with what we'd like, so I'm not disappointed, but pretty excited.
