Aside from some interesting imagery such as the "fall of snowflakes on your body", and moments where the lyrics seem to lead you along (the chorus, "Dance into the fire", etc.) - Do the lyrics actually mean anything?

At least with GoldenEye and most of the other films, you can tie the lyrics into the story somewhat, but to me, the lyrics to A View To A Kill seem fairly nonsensical and are little more than a string of random sentences that might have a hidden meaning if you can be bothered to think about them.

What do you think? Is there a meaning behind the lyrics, or are they just written to match a catchy tune?

Meeting you, with a view to a kill
Face to face in secret places, feel the chill.
Night fall covers me, but you know the plans i'm making,
Still oversea, could it be the whole world opening wide
A sacred why?, a mystery gaping inside
The weekends why?

Until we dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire,
To fatal sounds of broken dreams
Dance into the fire,
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire.....

Choice for you, is the view to a kill
Between the shades, assination standing still.
The first crystal tears, fall as snowflakes on your body
First time in years, to drench you skin with lovers' rosy stain
A chance to find the phoenix for the flame,
A chance to die..

But can we dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire
To fatal sounds of broken dreams
Dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire
When all we see.. is the view to a kill

For years Bond fans haven't had clue what they mean and I doubt we'll ever find out.

Actually, if you play the song backwards, it keeps saying that "Paul is dead."

haha, AVTAK is pretty much like a Bob Dylan song, what in the heck are you saying DSquare? I wasn't aware lovers had a rosy stain, hmm maybe another kind, but not rosy in color.

It's such a captivating song, that you don't need to know what the lyrics mean, you just accept them. Plain and simple. :) (I don't have a clue anyway.)

Most of Duran Duran's lyrics don't make any sense, but that didn't stop me from buying their music. I think Qwerty's advice works best.

What a great question. Love the song - cryptic and menacing, like DuranDuran channeling David Bowie. Two bad it was preceded by a bad Beach Boys quotation. :)

"Snowflakes falling onto you're body" - or something like that, cant be bothered scrolling up the page, I think that might be a reference to the dead OO agent at the start, but thats about it.

To me I understand the lyrics... but then again I'm one who is very into imagery. Something I really don't know how to explain without using imagery. But look at the lyrics as a whole, they all tie in together. I love Duran Duran lyrics they're very into complex imagery.

I mean, to me...
"The first crystal tears, fall as snowflakes on your body"
...that seems to make perfect sence. Tears fall on your body like snowflakes. What are snowflakes? Soft... and hitting a warm body they would seem to melt away.... like tears. *shrug*

I would guess that the first bit about 'the whole world opening wide' refers to the opening of the San Andreas fault. 'The plans I'm making' are Zorin's plans for said fault.

As for the snowflakes, rosy stain, and assassination between the shades...I don't have a clue.

The lyrics mean that Si and the Taylor clones had this song called ‘Dance Into The Fire’ that they didn’t know what to do with until they were asked to write a Bond song. Squeeze the film’s title in and Bam! Instant Bond song. Who cares if it now makes no sense.

Thinking about it Athena007 is right that the imagery all makes sense when you think about it. It's just that it doesn't really seem to die in with the film.

Still one of the best though.

Do they make any more sense than a-ha's lyrics for "The Living Daylights" ? Once again great tune, but after tunes like GF, TB, YOLT and LALD, you wonder if it's not about the music but the name of the performer doing it. Madonna's DAD was little in the same vein, but at least it seemed to have a point.
