I notice this every time I watch Octopussy and was wondering if anyone else has and if they can figure it out.
In the scene where the bomb has just been disposed, Octopussy turns to Magda and says "Where was Kamal going?"
Magda says "Back to India", BUT IT'S NOT WHAT HER LIPS ARE SAYING!

Am I just crazy or is she saying something else and they dubbed her?

Can anyone tell what her lips are saying?

Why is this discussion in the Timothy Dalton forum when OP is a Roger Moore movie?

Oh, I'm sorry. I must have clicked on the wrong one to place it in. Thanks for noticing it though.

Gives you a fuzzy feeling to know that there's expected to be at least one of the Mod Squad on deck every minute of the day. :)

But as to what Madga is saying? Damn good question, one which I wished I had asked because it bugs me everytime I see that scene too.

I have no answer to the question at hand...to tell you the truth I never noticed it before....I am guessing that if anyone knows it might be the OP supporters on CBN such as 4 Ur Eyez Only and Zencat...

Magda's line was definitely altered during post-production and I can only guess that it was a result of a script change that was shot elsewhere in the movie that would've made her original line out of place.

Any lip readers in the house?

Qwerty, not sure, sorry - but I've been wanting to raise this point. Magda must have been dubbed. There are simply too many places in the movie where her words simply do not match her mouth. The scene in the casino, the dubbing is fine, but later , scenes such as the circus "swipe" (where she asks the General how much time would she get for stealing his wallet) seem poorly timed. What do others think?

As far as I know Kristina Wayborn speaks perfect English like her country-woman friend Maud Adams, and sure there'd be overdubs required due to excessive noise on the set, etc, but in this case her lips are clearly mouthing 5 or 6 words but her voice-over only says 3. It's definitely not a synch problem.

Still, not as bad as all the changes of heart that Thunderball underwent from shoot to final edit. I'm sure there were two scripts there, they filmed one and overdubbed the other.

Were they only allowed one chance at a dub?

"Heyyy fella, you've had your chance and messed up. It's someone else's turn now. Get to the back of the queue, you've got another line coming up shortly."

Kristina Wayborn is interviewed on-camera for the "Inside Octopussy" DVD documentary and her English seemed flawless.

During the circus scene, I think she was mouthing "Want to see my little Octopussy?" :)

LOL....I am sure when she said "thats my little Octopussy" in the bedroom scene with Moore that it was more than just Rogers eyebrow that was raised...

I checked the script and there are no lines between Octopussy and Magda at this point. We may never know.

It always looked to me as though Octopussy's line was dubbed at this point, too. With the sound off, she appears to ask, "Why would Kamal do this?", not "Where is Kamal going?".

I could be wrong, though. :)

Magda says to Octopussy - "Back of course". Re-dubbed to: "Back to India".

There has been a lot of re-dubbing [changed dialogue or added humour] in the Bond films - the worst offender is OHMSS.

Although Magda is says "Back of course" - what she is thinking is: Octopussy should really have been 125 minutes not 130 as these Circus sequences and the build up to the train fight are very sluggish. What is needed is 2 1/2 mins taken out from each section.

Well Lazenby was of course dubbed while posing as Sir Hilary Bray, but I would say the worst offender was "Goldfinger". Don't forget that ALL of Gert Frobe's lines were dubbed by another actor...
