The group who gave us the theme song to Roger Moore's 007 movie AVTAK are back!

Some 18 years after they originally broke up the group have reunited and have a new album coming out. They will also be going on tour. People.com reports the following:

DURAN DURAN
With billowing shirts and military duds, "we were on the leading edge of fashion," says singer Simon LeBon, 44. "Miami Vice took its look from us." Crockett and Tubbs are gone, but the original lineup behind made-for-MTV hits such as "Hungry Like the Wolf" has reunited for the first time in 18 years to tour and record a new album. "We all needed to assert our independence," says bassist John Taylor, 43, wed to Juicy Couture cofounder Gela Nash-Taylor. While drummer Roger Taylor, 43, retired to a farm with his family and guitarist Andy Taylor, 42, made solo albums, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, 41, kept the band going with LeBon, who has three daughters with his model-wife, Yasmin. LeBon predicts longevity: "We've all got our own hair!"

Ah, i remember there was a tabloid story saying that LeBon & Co. had to lose weight according to their manager before they were inflicted upon the public again. Looks like they've finally done it then!

I hope they go on to create more hits, though I've a horrible feeling that they may have "had their kicks", but I guess time will tell.

*hums "Dance Into The Fire"...OOPS! I mean...A View to a Kill* :)

I am not a Duran Duran fan but I love their song "A View To A Kill" and I think it is the second best title song for a James Bond film after "Live and Let Die." I think I heard somewhere that they might be considered to do the title song for Bond 21. I would love it if they did return for Bond 21.

Should they be given a chance to record another Bond title, let's hope they don't write the lyrics so they can make a shred of sense. :-)

Two pages of the CBn forum avatars can be found linked from the "Edit Options" page of your User CP section. At this stage, I am unaware of any plans to increase the library any time soon.

I have a hint for you BONDFINESSE, if one wants to act like a childish spoilt brat, one'll most likely get treated like one.
:)

It'll be interesting to see how they'll fair in a new "ordinary world." If memory serves me correct the last time they performed together anywhere was at the Live Aid Concert? Could be wrong there, but it was still a looooong time ago.

I really loved their stylised videos. Hope they re-release their A View to a Kill song, or at least remix it with a more "now" flavour. It'd be interesting to hear what treatment they would give it.

I'd also like them to do another Bond song, maybe something along the lines of "Ordinary World".

I'm not sure that Duran Duran ever officially split. Various band members came and went, and the current fuss is just because the original lineup is back after a long time. But I believe Le Bon always kept the b®and name going.

I was always much more into groups like Pet Shop Boys, The Smiths and New Order as a teenager, but I'd say that Duran Duran are definitely one of the great singles bands. "Is There Something I Should Know", "The Reflex", "A View To A Kill", "Save A Prayer", "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf", "Wild Boys", "Skin Trade".... classic pop songs, all of 'em. Everyone should own their "Greatest Hits" album.

Cool.

I'll take back what I said then. I guess the avatars you used in your posts kind of overpowered your original intention of playing around. Sorry, for misreading them, BF.

The vintage Duran Duran is back together. A bunch of teen movies like The Sure Thing, The Last American Virgin and Valley Girl were just released on DVD. The '80s are back!

I don't think they call it that anymore, 4 Ur Eyez Only. They call it sculpting gel or whatever other fancy name they call it at any given time. Now if somebody would just bring back parachute pants.

Yeah MGM is releasing a whole slew of 1980s movies...I really liked the Rob Reiner audio commentary on 'The Sure Thing' DVD but I can't believe that I never spotted before that it was a young Tim Robbins who plays Gary Cooper ("but not the one whose dead") in that movie.

I am attaching a live version of AVTAK, hopefully the attachment works. If it does, let me know what you guys think, I have more.

As to the reunion, it's long overdue. 2 original members (Andy Taylor on guitar and Roger Taylor on drums) left the band in 1986. Since then, the band has continued on in some shape or form.

But the best lineup, the 5 original members, got back together for the first time in 2001. They just did a number of live shows in Japan, and then 4 in the US.

The press are just eating up this reunion (CNN, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, SPIN, etc), it's actually quite unbelievable - but it's happening. And the Bond producers have already asked Duran to do the theme song for the next Bond film. Let's see.

yeah that is one thing I loved about the 007 crew of the 80's they didn't make is have the "cheezy 80's" feel..with trends and dumb fads.. they kept it straight forward..

could you imagine if they made roger break dance and try to be "80's hip" :)

I know it is a comedy and it is different.. but the second "Vacation movie' European Vacation.. had Chevy in "Breakdance" clothes and he moonwalked..

thank god Roger didn't disco or breakdance! They only used the "Space" fad.. which was ok.

but they dodge a serious bullet!! IF Roger did do any of this stuff.. thay would be the only clip they would show today:mad:

ie: adam west dancing as batman..with the 2 fingers cover his eyes..:)

I would love to hear an AVTAK remix. I like that song, and it is one of my top five Bond songs. Duran Duran coming back for Bond 21 would be interesting, but I don't think we will see the day. :)

DLS, below is one news story relating to the next Bond theme song. also I noticed that the attachment I put in did not work, if anyone wants a MP3 of different versions of AVTAK, PM me:

Duran Duran may sing Another Day
By Richard Simpson Showbusiness Correspondent, Evening Standard
12 November 2002

James Bond producers are negotiating with the band behind the most successful 007 theme song to get them on board for the secret agent's 21st outing.

Even before Die Another Day has had its royal premiere, Duran Duran have been approached to record the music for the next Bond adventure.

In 1985, the band went to No1 in the US charts and No 2 in the UK with the theme to A View To A Kill.

Band members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor and John Taylor have already reformed and recorded a new album.

They were approached even before Madonna signed up for Die Another Day, but after the relatively poor performance of her single - it peaked at No3 - the band were contacted again.

A source close to the band said: "Duran Duran have been in talks with Bond's producers to make the next soundtrack - and they're really keen.

"The current situation with the band is that they are on the brink of landing one of the biggest comeback record deals of all time and there are a number of labels still waiting to sign them."

Ah, y'see we can't be expected to notice it if it isn't posted to [email protected], we do our best with the news, but it would be greatly appreciated if forums members would take the time just to post the article to us. Then we would have it up guaranteed, along with a credit for the person who sent it to us.

It's too late now anyway.
