I say Moore Bond film, cause I don't really compare each Bond actors films against each other.

Over the top humor? You betcha, but you know what? I can accept it.

Jaws being ruined? Not in my eyes, sure he's the butt of most jokes, but so what? He redeems himself in the end. And just to note, his one and only line "Well, heres to us." Is one of my favorite moments in the film.

Bond in outer space? It works it certainly gives the film a epic feel that no Bond film (not even DAD) has been able to duplicate since.

With that said, I would put AVTAK right after this one, and Octopussy as my third favorite Moore flim. After that it's pretty much up in the air on how I feel about Moore's other films.

I enjoy MR alot. IMO it's better than TSWLM which is ridiculously overrated.

It's decent enough film and with a few tweaks here and there it could have been a classic among Bond fans. I say this because most of the general public seem to consier it a classic.

The trouble was it either had too much or too little of what it was using. eg. Too much stupid humour, a little but not enough hard-edged Bond.

If it followed the style of TSWLM a little closer then it might have been all the better for it.

Not half as good as its predecessor TSWLM which is my favorite James Bond movie of all time.

I like Moonraker too. It's a fine movie. I didn't find the jokes annoying or the action over-the-top. My only slight problem is Bond in space. But Bond is not supposed to be 100% realistic. It's what makes Bond Bond.

I like Moonraker for all its faults. It's not a great Bond film I think because the series becomes an imitator as opposed to the innovator it used to be and still is to this day.
It made loads of money, but it's as far away from Flemingian Bond as one could imagine.

I like Moonraker also.. it is one of the only 007 movies that has a Epic feel

But I think Octopussy is the BEST 007 Movie ever made! It is a perfect movie! Of course there is a second here or a second there.. but out of all the other Bond Movies.. Octopussy is the closest thing to perfect

Yes I totally agree with this.. for me just being on this board, and reading true fans of different Roger Films & Roger 007 films.. I now seeing it through their loving eyes.. A film I personally didn't like.

But seeing it through someones eyes.. I see what they like about it.. and get their points, which has made true fans of:

Moonraker: the end is a little dated but 90% of it is great!!

AVTAK: has a goldfinger modern plot feel!! Different then roger's other which gives him even more range

TMWTGG: the most like a 007 Book!

I like these but felt they were on a lower level.. and way lower level then the roger 007's I think are the best!

BUT now I like these and give each one high praise!

I touched upon this in my initial post. But I love this movie too because it has a nice subplot with Jaws as he falls in love with the blonde girl. Not many Bond movies give supporting characters there own subplot, but this one doe!

I also have to give props to the boat chase on the Amazon. It's not the best chase in the Bond series, but with teh accompiment of the 007 theme (which hadnt been heard since DAF) makes it stand out as a classic.

Before I came to these boards, I always assumed MR and AVTAK were universally loathed and that RM's era itself was not much thought of. I glad to see that isn't the case. I like MR a hell of a lot! I think there are 4 other Moore entries that are better, but only just!

I also thought these two movies were not much thought of and although I do not like MR (because of the Jaws subplot) I do love AVTAK and it has been heartening to realize that there are a whole batch of Bond fans who also love Rogers last 007 movie.

I agree totally with the last few posts. In recent months, the Moore forum has gone from being moderately visited to being the most active of the movie forums. And it's been fun, just like the Moore era was.

The Moore films have gone through a revisionist period and for the better. My tastes don't list MR or AVTAK at the top of my fav Bond films, but the responses here have kept me enthusiastic about them rather than being apathetic.

People can debate all day about the return of Martin Cambell, TWINE vs. GE, DAD rocks vs. DAD sucks or whatever. Once you wade through that stuff, the Moore forum is a nice place to come unwind, so to speak.

Thte thng that shocks me most about Moonraker is how good the effects of the shuttle and the space station are, 24 years on! And the documentary about how they did it is fascinating, one of the best docus of the series IMO.

To be perfectly honest, I rank this film at 19 out of the 20 official films, but really, that number is very subjective. Before Die Another Day came out on dvd, this was usually the disc I would pop in for a quick Bond fix. Bond at his worst is still better than most of the stuff that ends up in theaters. Moonraker has a lot of good things going for it. A great opening and very good stuntwork throughout, not to mention very good special effects. The screenplay is structured well and Drax is a very entertaining villain. My only complaint is a general lack of focus and an unfortunate tendency to devolve into bad comedy, as opposed to the usual good humor one normally finds in the films. Roger Moore is great as usual and while I find Lois Chiles to be somewhat wooden in her performance, she is very attractive and charming. The first hour or so is very good with only the unfortunate St. Marks Square sequence detracting more than a little.

Ironically enough, I have written a guest review for Moonraker on a bad movie website. It hasn't been posted yet but I think I give it a pretty fair treatment. I point out the good stuff along with the bad. I like the film for what is does right and for what it stumbles on.

I will let you guys know when it is posted, bare in mind that is was done mainly with humor in mind so don't be too put off by the sarcasm, wisecracks and attitude.

There are a lot of people saying "I'm a real fan and a real fan loves Connery... Moore was too funny!"
Well now I want write:
ROGER MOORE is my preferred BOND!

When I was a child my preferred heroes were Simon Templar and Lord Sinclair on tv and 007 on the big screen. 3 heroes - one only actor: Mr. Moore.
I love all the 007 movies, but Moore's Bonds have something special!
My favs of Roger? In order: FYEO, TSWLM, OP, AVTAK, LALD, MR, TMWTGG.
