"Red Nemesis" Review

30 July 2017 - 01:15 PM

I cannot believe noone here's read the last of Steve Cole's novels. Shame, because it's not only his best, but one of the better in Young Bond series. Yes, it's as good as Charlie Higson's work!
I really liked the plot. I was sceptical about this whole "message from beyond the grave" concept but it was well played and surprisingly believable. As was the story of Bond's parents.
This time Cole created some really solid characters, especially Anya, Bond's Russian companion.
"Red Nemesis" is really entertaining, perfectly paced novel.
And there's a small reference to Poland. Thanks, Mr. Cole

"Strike Lightning" Reviews

26 October 2016 - 04:33 PM

Okay, I've finally finished reading it. Long story short: it's better than "Shoot to Kill", but overall not as good as "Heads You Die".
Compared to the latter, "Strike Lightning" lacks the sense of adventure, but is almost perfectly paced. There is some action of course, but it doesn't overwhelm the story. The first half of the book is a solid thriller with engaging plot.
To bad the characters are much weaker this time.
There are some really good moments (the World War I references) but overall, it's still not the same league as Charlie Higson.
