I just spotted this Amazon.co.uk listing via Kimberly's Last's website. Looks like there's a new paperback coming June 9, 2003 which will combine John Gardner's first three Bond books: License Renewed, For Special Services, and Icebreaker. This is a very pleasant surprise indeed!

Should we make this a news item?

First 3 Gardner books to be reprinted in a NEW paperback.

Exciting news for John Gardner fans. After a long absence, the first 3 John Gardner James Bond books, LICENSE RENEWED, FOR SPECIAL SERVICES, and ICEBREAKER are set to be reprinted by Coronet books in a single paperback combo edition on June 9, 2003, according to this listing on Amazon.co.uk. License Renewed was first published in 1981, For Special Services in 1982, and Icebreaker in 1983. The last time the books appeared in print was in 1995.

Finally! This is great news! I'd say it warrants being made front page news, Zen.

The news is now up on the main page. :)

These combo publications seem to be the craze at the moment, but I'm not too enthused about it. I'd much prefer to buy each book as a stand alone.

However, if this is the only way that the Gardner Bonds will be published from now on, I'm all for it.

Boy, Mi6 ripped off this story in record time. You know, I was big enough to credit Kimberly Last for alerting me to this news this morning, you'd think Mi6 or "Wai Lin" would have done the same for us.

Sorry for the delay, John.

It's being a hectic morning at work.

I'd rather see them re-released individually in the style of the latest Fleming UK releases [along with Markham's and Benson's of course :)], but beggars can't be choosers.

Oh, no, don't get me wrong Brett. I didn't mean to infer there was a delay. There wasn't. In fact, I just logged on and was surprised to see it up already! Great work.

I wasn't even sure this was main page newsworthy until I posted it. Glad to see how many people share my excitement over this.

Yes, Colonel Sun has been pasted over yet again. I wonder if it's because it's a one off, in a manner speaking?

Or, is it because it's such a damn fine Fleming-ish yarn that IFP are afraid to publish it?

I do find it a little strange that Coronet is listed as the publisher of this book instead of Penguin. Not sure what that implies. Maybe Coronet still has a license on these titles and they're doing it on their own. Interesting that the IFP website has no mention of this, and that it's coming out the same day a TMWTRT paperback (also Coronet).

I'd say a little from Column A and a a little from Column B.

Whilst I'm yet to read Colonel Sun [though it's sitting on my bookshelf, looking mighty tempting, but I'll wait til I'm through Fleming]. But I can't wait to read this On Her Majesty's Secret Service of the literary genre.

Good point. I should have picked up on that. It'll be interesting to see if this is a one-off, or if they plan to release all of Gardner's works in compilations like this.

Not sure that I'll pick it up. Depends if I can track down a copy of Licence Renewed somewhere. And God knows how I'm gonna manage to get my hands on the later Gardners and that elusive The Facts Of Death.

It's great to see Gardner reprinted. I've got my order in already. I hope they continue with the rest of his plus Colonel Sun.

I would like to point out that I posted this in a different thread, 3rd from the bottom, a couple of months ago. Yet it seems to went unnoticed.

Hey, so you did Tehuti. Sorry about that, it's just one of those things that happen in forums from time to time.

I guess it pays to start a new thread when bringing this sort of thing to everone's attention.

Was this book originally scheduled to come out in March, hence the date. I've had this happen before with Amazon. Or maybe someone just typed March instead of June into the system. They got the day right.
