James Bond will return to US cinemas on November 8, 2019 with a traditional earlier release in the UK and rest of the world.

My thoughts as well, Pinky.

Although if Craig returns, he will have been in the role for 13 years (2006 - 2019).

That's longer than Sir Roger, although two films shorter. Weird to think we could have had 7+ Craig entries had they stuck to the every-other-year schedule.

I think this date is set far enough out to take all the immediate pressure off of EON and give them some breathing room, but with a deadline looming to keep them in motion.  I also suspect we may have seen the last of Craig based on this timeline.  BUT... at least it's real official news for a change.

Sucks that we have to wait another two years, but it's really nice knowing there's finally something set in stone.

The question remains, does Craig return? I doubt the average moviegoer will care about or even remember the Spectre/Blofeld storyline two more years from now.

I'm very torn.

On the one hand, I want Craig back so badly as I think he has been phenomenal in the role.

On the other hand, if we have to wait until 2019 for Craig's last hurrah, when will we see Bond 26? In 2023? As they will need to recast the role, we'd be in for ANOTHER (at least) four year wait.

I really wish EON were searching for the next Bond while simultaneously prepping Craig's final outing, but I seriously doubt that is happening.

With Logan Lucky coming out in a couple of weeks, I suspect Craig will get a lot of questions about this release date.

I would've preferred 2018 -- Craig would be 49 at the outset of filming and turn 50 during production, as opposed to beginning production at 50, not that there's necessarily a big difference, only the perception thereof -- but I agree with the consensus that at least it's real, tangible news.

As far as Craig's involvement, it could seriously go either way.  The extra long break may be in place with an aim toward recasting and rebooting after some of the less successful elements of "SPECTRE", or it may just be to allow Craig to fit in some other projects.

Excellent news! Although I selfishly wanted 2018 as a release year but as we've learned from the past, better to take the time to get things right and not rush it. As for Mr. Craig, I think he is signed and ready to go for one last time. The Bond production engine is beginning to show signs of life..finally! :)

Nice to see a firm date, and fall 2019 is what most of us have been expecting. That they've made it official suggests that Craig is nailed down.

I'm now seeing reports that Purvis and Wade are returning to write Bond 25 and that cast, director and distributor will be announced at a later date.

This would seem to confirm that Craig is onboard. After all it'd be foolhardy to think they'd commit without the lead actor cast... wouldn't it?

Hmm, this could also simply be a date thrown out there to make the studio deal run more smoothly, with a hope that it all comes together in in time. It may be a chicken and egg scenario; they want a studio deal before setting a date and the studios want a date before making a deal...

Well that was a nice announcement without actually saying much of anything. So they have a release date and our favorite pair of screenwriters are back?

Somebody wake me when we get some real news.

There was a post on one of these threads of someone in communication with someone else in Eon production via social media. The insider confirmed a 2019 release date (now validated) and Craig's return (not announced, but would sure make some major PR noise right around Lucky's premiere). So I suspect the delay may have been to reassemble the Skyfall team for once last go. Wouldn't surprise me if Mendes is back as well.

Not necessarily.  CASINO ROYALE and Martin Campbell's direction of it was announced in February 2005, a full eight months before Daniel Craig was cast as Bond.

Very interesting that Craig isn't mentioned here.  I suspect he'll be back, but as KHergesheimer predicts above, I certainly hope that this isn't a re-assembling of the SKYFALL and SPECTRE team.  That would absolutely crush my enthusiasm for this film right from the beginning.

That was me, although I had since deleted the post when I heard mumblings that my contact was unreliable. Indeed, he seems to have been vindicated, although 2019 was always a reasonable guess (as was Craig's return), so he didn't exactly predict anything that was outside the purview of pure luck. Makes me wonder though.

Also, if my memory is correct, this is the second Bond film in a row where the release date was announced during the July that was two and a half years before said release date. Gives us a good general timeframe for future announcements.

UPDATE: NY Times says Craig is returning.

Although their credibility is somewhat tainted by claiming that the upcoming film will be the 25th in the series "if you include Never Say Never Again."

I would certainly feel more "comfortable" about the whole thing once a director and star are announced. I personally would also like to see Martin Campbell take another crack at the helm - especially if it's Craig's swan song.

I'm happy with this news. It's quite a wait but we have a date at least. Before we were waiting around in a vacuum of nothing. I'm hoping that Craig returning comment can be confirmed. I think Craig will be back in any case.

Awesome! I know it's a bit of a wait but nevertheless, we're lucky they're still making these things after all these years. Bring it!

I would assume one has but they will make the announcement latter.
