Ladies and gentlemen,

it's my great pleasure to announce that CBn will be moving shortly into a new set of forum architecture; new premises so to speak.

A number of reasons have lead us to the conclusion that this ship, after 16 years, now needs a new home port. Keeping the safety and integrity of the database here up to scratch has become ever more complex and the natural answer was to look for more modern accommodations. Which you will discover shortly.

However, moving a vessel such as CBn - active since February 2001 - from one harbour to another isn't done in a day. Or a night either. We are currently still in a kind of advanced test mode; this means we are operative but want to handle the migration of members in phases and, in this early stage, by invitation only.

Some of you already received invitations by The Admiral to the new place. Or will receive them during the next few weeks as we go along. This is solely an organisational thing and should be dealt with in relatively short time.

During transition period the old forum will run parallel with the new one. Eventually though, we will switch it to read-only and use it as archive. Meaning all your posts and contributions will remain accessible here. The main page will not be affected by the move.

Thank you for sailing with CBn...

Do we need to be on our best behavior to get an invite?

I'm having difficulty logging in over there. I accepted my invitation and set up my username and password but it won't let me in.

Did you manage to log in before or did the system keep you out from the go?

On the invite page I create my username and password and I submit but then it's doesn't recognize them when I try to sign in.

Gobi-1, I can't as of now see you in our member log over at the new place. Could you try following the invitation/registration again, possibly from another device? We were trying to make the new system as user-friendly as possible but there is always a chance some cookie or other gets stuck in the wrong slot. If it should work from another device your troubles may have been caused by cookies.

I like it a lot actually. It's very convenient, easy to use and maintain. And it's quite 'fresh'. You'll get used to it in no time.

I must admit, cosmetically, it is much more streamlined!

However, I'll miss seeing everybody's signature banner...

It took a bit to get used to, but it works fine once you get used to the way it works.  The only suggestion I think I would have would be for there to be an option for a light forum theme (black text on a white/lighter background) like we got here the last time the forum underwent a major update.  A bit easier to read, IMO, but that's the only issue I've encountered to date.  Really like the way that it automatically embeds things for you (and the presentation of embedded articles especially), as opposed to the hoops you sometimes have to jump through on most forums.  That was a very welcome surprise.

You can switch to a lighter theme. I did it just today. Don't ask me how though.

When the transition happens, will all of our old posts be ported over to the new forums? Or will it be a blank slate? Also, will we keep our forum names or do we have the option of changing them?

Our old posts will be stored on this site, which will be transformed into a 'read-only' archive. You will be able to register at the new place with either your old name or a new one - provided that isn't already taken.

Will the new forums be usable with a forum mobile app like Tapatalk?

Must admit I am not a fan of the new look forum.  Seems to be a quite random affair and very similar to the ones over at MI6 - which I don't use for the same reason.

I daresay it is the future though, for whatever reason.

Indeed, what is the reason for this look?  Is it something to do with mobile devices as I note that most websites are looking quite 'large' in their aesthetic bloatedness now.  Great swathes of site acreage given over to blocks and large text.  Seems to be the online equivalent of young kids colouring with wax crayons.  Bloody hopeless.

I should think so. It's a state-of-the-art host system developed for easy use and maintenance as well as for mobile access. Tapatalk should not be a problem.

As design goes, Simon, I'm afraid this is really the future. Most 'traditional' appliances like our 'vintage' one were designed long ago with access-from-desktop in mind. With mobile Internet developers added a scaled down diet version for mobile access, but that never is a really satisfying solution. New generation sites are designed after the needs of mobile access.

Sorry, can't be helped. But I would like to add that web design is a constant form of evolvement, so chances are this will be minutely changed over time in the future.
