God this is heart-breaking.

Such a wonderful man, a talented actor and ambassador for UNICEF.

His passion for James Bond will never be forgotten, and so sad he is the first of the 007 actors to pass away.

:(

I grew up watching his Bond films on VHS over and over. He's an absolute Bond legend and will never be forgotten, that much is certain.

On such a dreadful day as this it feels appropriate to give condolences to those effected by the Manchester bomb as well as Roger. I'm sure Roger would approve.

By ALL accounts Roger was perhaps the nicest, most humble man to grace the big screen. We 'll miss him and the world is a duller, less gracious and less fun place without him.

Thanks for so many great times in the cinema and especially in front of the tv watching a Bond movie with mum and dad on a Sunday evening. Maybe it's sad (and i really don't intend this pun), but they were bonding experiences i remember fondly.

RIP

So heartbroken to learn of Sir Roger Moore's passing. He was the Bond of my generation and I enjoyed all of his Bond movies growing up. R.I.P. Sir Roger Moore.

Once my favorite.  Then, for a time, my least favorite.  Then, finally, one of my favorites again in a whole new light.  It was a good on-screen journey with someone who was clearly one of the good guys off the screen.  Love ya, Rog.

So, sad. He was my first Bond (in theatres at least). Seemed like an all around decent human being.

R.I.P. Sir Roger. You'll always have a special place in my heart.

So sad to think we've reached the era that former Bonds will pass away. But so grateful we've had them for so long.

My first Bond too.

I really thought he was going to live forever.  He certainly deserved to.

So tragic.  RIP.

Yes, was there any indication he was suffering from cancer?

Completely out of nowhere, excepting hopefully his family.

So sad. An appalling day.

Thank you for the memories you gave us all, Sir Roger, and for giving us the fun and entertainment that brought so many of us together.

I'll also remember watching my first Bond films, OCTOPUSSY and A VIEW TO A KILL, laying on my grandparents' lounge floor as a child.

What a life lived by a gentleman.

I really thought he was going to live forever.

I know what you mean.

Moore had buckets of charm, on and off the screen. He was simply a very likeable man and it was all genuine. He loved James Bond. He embraced the character and never ran from the topic. He always seemed to be having a good time and always managed to see the humour in life. I loved his positivity and sense of fun which never, ever left him.

I always dreaded this day.

Rest in peace, Sir Roger--A great Bond and an even greater man. We should all be so lucky to live a life as long and fulfilled as his.

My older sisters took me to see Octopussy at the theater. It was my first Bond experience. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. I have been hooked on Bond ever since.

There were years that I would defend Moore as the best Bond ever. Over time he would gradually slip down my list of Bond actors but like your first girlfriend...you never forget your first.

Thoughts are with his family and friends. Nobody did it better. Thank you.

I had the pleasure of attending a Q&A for his autobiography.

When a member of the audience asked a question and addressed him as "Sir Rodger", he quickly said "no, no, please just call me Roger". For a man that has done so much for so many to be so humble and decent to his fans has stayed with me ever since. They say never meet your heroes, however Roger was absolutely an exception to that.

While queuing to have my book signed I was thinking of what I would say to him. Having grown up watching all of his Bond films over and over again, I was of course in awe of him, however, instead of just saying what a fan I was, I thought I'd be a little selfish and ask for something. I said to him "sorry, but would you mind saying 'Bond, Jame Bond' for me". He finished signing the book, looked up at me, paused and said the line in character. I was smiling from ear to ear and said "thank you, you've made my day".

Without a doubt, that has been the highlight of my Bond fandom that started when I was six years old, and is a moment I will never forget. I will be forever grateful for him obliging my request.

This is absolutely heart breaking news, however he has left behind a body of work that will continue to bring joy for generations to come, and a legion of fans and friends, none of whom could say anything bad about him as a person, which is truly something special.

RIP to a great man, and thank you to him of all of the memories.

Gutted beyond words. I'd been reflecting only recently on the age of the first Bonds and how it wouldn't be too long before we received the awful news about one of them. Still come as a shock, particularly with Roger who hadn't shunned the limelight but, with Twitter and everything, still seemed to very much alive. I've got so used to hearing him giving his reaction to the death of other figures from the Bond universe, it feels wrong that this is happening to him.

Like many here, Roger Moore is the Bond I grew up with. A decent, humble and generous man, which always makes this kind of news that much harder to accept. My partner met him around 2000 as part of his job and, knowing I was a fan, got me his autograph. Sir Rog was in good spirits, only too happy to oblige and by all accounts seemed to be enjoying life at the time.

What I think I'll remember of him the most: the wonderful mutual affection that existed between him and the rest of us. That includes the hardcore fans of course but it also includes a very large chunk of my generation who grew up to the excitement of Moonraker on Christmas Day and The Spy Who Loved Me on Boxing Day. The star of which went on to downplay his own talent while remaining firmly generous in his tributes to the talents of others. Always with good humour. That's what made him extra special to my mind. Even if he wasn't your favourite Bond, you coudn't not feel affection. Not many actors shuffle off this mortal coil with that kind of legacy.

It was the scene from the end of TSWLM when Bond is riding on the camera as the theme played that first piqued my interest in Bond. Forever grateful. RIP.
