Yeah I love this scene. Watched it the other day when it was on TV.

 

I watched a bit of SPECTRE on a flight the other day.

I maintain the whole relevancy issue in Skyfall was commenting on the franchise as a whole given the 50th anniversary. It worked for me. As for Bond's injury being brushed off too soon, I think they did enough. At the end of the day, we want to see our heroes strut their stuff. The big drama moment was on Silva's island. Bond misses the shot and Silva mocks him for it. When all seems lost, Bond comes alive and turns the tables. Bond was always good enough, he just had to find a way to overcome his injury. There's also a small but lovely moment of drama where Bond loses his grip while hanging underneath the elevator. That could have been due to his shoulder pain, too.

 

Absolutely, I always thought he loses his grip because it puts too much stress on his shoulder - and a few minutes earlier in the film he stops the exercise because the same happens.

I love those Shanghai scenes in Skyfall. They are pure Bond.

Picking up your hint at "pure Bond" - this is what "pure Bond" for me is in SPECTRE:

 

- nonchalantly walking on the edge of the roofs in the PTS

 

- the dialogue with Lucia during the funeral  plus the way Bond waives at the goons

 

- Bond disposing of Lucia´s killers

 

- Bond´s first encounter with Madeleine ("not the sort of job that would look good on a form")

 

- the train sequence

 

- the first meeting with Blofeld

I'll add Bond saying good evening and buttoning up his jacket after touching down in the parachute. I like how Bond calmly downplays fantastical situations like that, making them seem normal.

All the scenes with Seydoux top it for me. SPECTRE's best parts are with her, IMO.

I also like the mention of Felix. A nice touch. I always imagine Jeffrey Wright at that moment.

This may be my favorite Craig film. The opening long shoot is fun and the living dead festival is a nice unusual setting. The theme song I enjoy much more then I did when it came out, its really grown on me and now it's my favorite in the DC Era. This film really moves along IMO, M's office, Bond's apartment, Q's office and then we are off to the races. Jedi Dench's role was a welcome surprise to me. The funeral scenes and music playing during them are really eerie and I believe Bond could be in real danger here even if he is laughing and waving. The SPECTRE meeting is intense and the car chase is pretty good to although I would have liked to see it end better then it did. The fight on the train between Bond and Hinx is wonderful and I imagine goes down as one of the best. Finally we get a villains lair in the Craig Era and it is as interesting as they come, inside a meteor crater. It even has some SF memorabilia in the form of a stolen painting in Madeleine Swann's bedroom at Blofeld's lair. I wish we could have learned a bit more about what Blofeld and his team of call support specialists do but we can be sure it is diabolical. The whole C subplot and Nine Eyes bores me to death but I like the Blofeld scar origin story. The MI6 HQ 'playhouse' feel is a little strange until Blofeld blows that place sky high. I wish they could have came up with a more creative way to take down a helicopter but overall a entertaining film.

It's a small moment, but I like the MI6 safe house scene because it continues the Craig era theme of Bond breaking into seemingly secure locations. Just like M's apartment in CR, and M's house in Skyfall.

After watching Spectre again, my original feelings are just reaffirmed. I want to love it so much. There are parts of it that are fantastic: train scene, drunk in Morocco, Mr. White's death, Madeleine watching said scene, the PTS, Rome. However, the movie seems to lose its way once it gets to Austria and despite moments of greatness, is never really able to right itself.

The final act in London is my least preferred section of the film, but I'm willing to let that slide because I like a lot of what transpired before that sequence. It doesn't tarnish the whole film for me. And I really enjoy the epilogue with Bond/Q and Bond/Madeleine, so I end the film feeling good about it.

I did enjoy that Craig's Bond finally got his happy ending. I also feel that the London finale is the weakest part of the film. It all wraps up too easily.

Yes I feel the same.

 

I like it when Bond says to Blofeld "I hope that doesn't hurt too much". But when Blofeld says "My wounds will heal, will yours?" I wish Bond would say "Yours won't heal, it looks like you're blind in one eye! All you ever did to me was kill a few of my girlfriends..."

Yes, yes and yes. I never felt bad for enjoying Spectre. Although the climax of the film was somewhat lacking, there are great parts!

Hmm.  Really?  Would you care to list them against each other?  I believe SPECTRE would come up short.

I can see what you mean. There was something about SPECTRE that did make it feel more of a 'bond film' than Craig's other three installments.

Can´t really agree here.  It has some of those moments - but the whole narrative lacks the traditional forward momentum and the typical behaviour of Bond.

I'm not sure if there are more Bond moments, but I do agree that Craig's Bond had more of a spark about him in SPECTRE. I've mentioned examples of this already, eg. leaving the champagne, the parachute landing, the polite charade at Blofeld's lair, etc. I did feel like SPECTRE was the closest we'd probably see Craig's Bond resembling what people like to call 'the Bond we all know and love'. Especially how they finally gave him a gadget laden car but still restricted its use with the weapons not all being loaded.
