Felix Leiter #2 is out, and it just confirms something I've felt for a long while: the Bond films need to return to Japan.

I think they avoided it because YOLT did put it front and centre for the whole film rather than just being a stop over whilst globe trotting (hello Venice) but yeah, it's been 50 years, probably safe to revisit now!

Just got Green Arrow Rebirth based on how much I loved Felix Leiter #1 (Percy wrote that too and he mentioned somewhere that it was why Dynamite offered Leiter to him whch led to him doing Black Box)

It's very good so far, making me more and more excited for his run on Bond.

The newest issue of HAMMERHEAD is par for the course for Diggle's run: good set-pieces, dodgy writing.

Wow, Hammerhead really jumped the shark with #5.  Nice art.  Cliched and blathering script and plot.  First of the new Bond comic issues that I found truly bad.  Diggle just doesn't get Bond.

Dynamite has announced a 48 page special called 'Service', written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Antonio Fuso.

http://comicsallianc...rvice-dynamite/

"In contemporary politics, where Britain's world standing is often more zero than 007, an assassin plans to exterminate the "special relationship," and lead Britain and the United States into a very dark place...especially when he does so by aiming down the sights of an ancient Enfield rifle! It'll test Bond's deadly talents to their limits, in order to defeat the assassin and avert certain geopolitical disaster..."

Black Box #1.  Very film Bond.  Don't want to drop too many spoilers, but the first person narrative from Bond is different.  Will be interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Agree that he's more movie Bond than literary Bond.

As a life long 007 reader/movie fan and ageless comic collector I prefer the literary version in Comics

Definitely a big film Bond influence with Black Box. It didn't push any boundaries but I still found it a fun read.

I've got very behind on the comics (other things have cropped up which has pushed me back on all my reading) so I'm looking forward to getting caught up.

Just finished Felix #3.  Sexy, moody, dark and noir-ish (both in tone and in artwork), solid action, very adult and very intelligent.  Just brilliant.

FELIX is the only one of these that feels like it belongs alongside the Ellis arcs. Really good stuff.

Good way to describe it. This comic series has helped me connect more with Felix's character. Film wise, I think Lord, Van Nutter, Hedison, Casey and Wright were all solid in their own way. But Linder, Burton and Terry were miscast. This comic series is one of the high-points for the character.

I came to say the exact same! Originally, I was going to skip the Felix spin. I'm very glad I decided against my original thought.

I'm loving the Felix/Japan pairing so far. Dark, exotic, dangerous. Plus, the mysteriousness of Tiger makes for a very interesting foil.

For what it's worth, I pronounce it varg-r.

I found this new preview of Service, with a couple preview pages:

http://comicsallianc...bond-interview/

I'll be picking it up.  I'm also eager to see the last issue of Hammerhead to finally wrap that arc up.

Just finished Black Box #2. I'm really enjoying this as well as the Felix Leiter comic. I'm hopeful for how Service turns out. Still waiting on that Casino Royale adaptation though...

My only questions is,

Spoiler
Wonder what's up with that.

Since these comics seem to be the most prevalent form of Bond media we're getting (not to mention on a fairly regular basis), any chance we'll get a dedicated Bond Comics sub-forum?

BLACK BOX #2 is fun.

It's less sophisticated than VARGR, EIDOLON, and FELIX LEITER (though, going by the preview, I'm optimistic that SERVICE will belong in their company), but BLACK BOX still has momentum. Let's hope it doesn't fizzle out like HAMMERHEAD.

What I do enjoy about all of these comics is the five-minutes-into-the-future sci-fi bent. That's been missing for a while, but given our increasingly technological world, it makes a lot of sense to take things in that direction.

I still have to read Black Box #2. I did however finish the last issue of Hammerhead. It was a ho-hum ending, but I still enjoyed what preceded it.

My only questions is,

Spoiler
Wonder what's up with that.

As said, I haven't read the issue yet. But could future events in the Felix Leiter comic factor in somehow? That takes place in Japan as well.

Could be. I don't think we know exactly when Felix Leiter takes place. It's seemingly after Eidolon, but he seems to have gone from working with the CIA to his own private detective agency very quickly. Unless in Eidolon he was just freelancing like he is in his own series.

Yeah, that's true. In Eidolon I'm sure Bond states the CIA have taken Felix back.

In any case, I'm cool with placing these stories in the order they've been chronologically released.

I just read Black Box #2. As a lover of casino Bond, this was right up my alley. I can tell Percy is a big James Bond fan by reading this. The passion oozes off the page. It's feeling like a Bond movie and Percy has stated that's his aim.

Looks like Andy Diggle will be doing another arc:

http://www.newsarama...bond-title.html

Wonder if this will be the template, each author/artist pairing gets two arcs. Maybe James Robinson will do another run of Felix, or a Tiger Tanaka book.

On top of that is the exciting news revealed at the Diamond Summit in Chicago. James Bond Origin. The creative team have not yet been announced, but Bleeding Cool understands that it is intended to be set in the original James Bond timeline, with his adventures in World War II.

https://www.bleeding...diamond-summit/

There are no signs of Dynamite slowing down. To list everything that's coming our way, we have:

Two more issues of Felix Leiter.
Four more issues of Black Box.
The Service one-shot.
The CR adaption at some point.
And now six issues of Kill Chain.

So far, I'd rank the arcs like this:

1. Eidolon
2. VARGR
3. Felix Leiter
4. Hammerhead

I've seen enough of Felix Leiter now to make a decision. I'll wait a little longer for Black Box, but I'm guessing it will take Hammerhead's place. Both of those arcs are fun, but I think my top three just have an added polish that sets them apart. There hasn't been an arc I've outright disliked.

EDIT: Sharpshooter you beat me to it.

Not that I'm gonna argue against actual stories about Bond in WWII (still hoping the Young Bond novels get there eventually), but how many origins does Bond need? First there was Casino Royale, then the Young Bonds, now this?

I did find this bit interesting: "This will be the 100% origin story of the secret agent James Bond, officially approved by the Ian Fleming estate and the Broccoli family."
Not sure if that's just conjecture on Bleeding Cool's part or if it's confirmed.

Also yeah, is that Casino Royale graphic novel ever coming out? It's been more than a year and Amazon keeps pushing their release date for it back.

At any rate, this continued support for the line seems to be in contrast with an article on MI6 that said the titles were in freefall and probably wouldn't last much longer.
