As told to Hitfix:

“I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak — it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did.”

... “[‘Spectre’] is neither fish nor fowl. It’s neither Bond nor Bourne. Am I in a Bond movie? Not in a Bond movie?”

There's a bit more at the link.

I read that too. Oh well.

I don't see a reason to attack him or point out the many flaws of his era just because I disagree. That's his opinion. So be it.

Nothing wrong with Brosnan voicing his opinion. I'd only have a problem with it if he attacked Craig, as I don't think that any of the Bonds should publicly speak ill of each other since it's such a small fraternity. Plus, it sounds like his criticisms of the film pretty much fall in line with the criticisms that those who have seen the film have levied against it.

SPECTRE is a better movie than all of the Brosnan Bond's except GE, perhaps. There I said it...brickbats please, as I see that SPECTRE doesnt have too many fans. Just imagine Hinx vs Brosnan...

It's not the quantity of fans but the quality of fans that matters.  B)

Brosnan says Craig could have another classic on his hands if he had a tighter script / story. Does he mean CR, Skyfall or both?

i saw his quote's last night, immediately saw people giving their impressions of his films, which really isn't the point. He saw it, was apparently asked what he thought and gave his opinion.  Opinions that are pretty much in line with other people's criticism's of it. Then he praised Craig.

Exactly.

There really isn't anything to get up in arms about here. Brosnan had an opinion, and it happened to be in line with what just about everyone else thinks about the film. Shocking.

I like Brosnan.  But his grudge against EON still makes him badmouth Bond films in public.

Sure, it´s his opinion.  But he knows his opinion will be treated as news and get more attention.

The classy way to answer the question would have been: "I haven´t seen it yet."

Since he is an expert in underwhelming Bond films, it's surely a valid view. He isn't coming to this uninformed.

Currently 69 per cent of our members rate SPECTRE four stars or above(http://debrief.comma...g/#entry1322662). Overall that's not too bad, the general public seems to like the film even more. I wouldn't underestimate the number of its fans.

Is this the first time a former Bond has spoken about a subsequent movie?

Brosnan's made a pretty fair and accurate yet still positive critique of the film, and heaped praise on Craig - what's the issue?

Well, Brosnan's observations are of course given more weight than Everyman's, both as a colleague of Craig and as a former Bond. It's not that he's far off the mark. And he's still positive overall.

Perhaps the feeling that he's often used by the media to give Eon a little kick every once in a while leaves a bad taste there. And that he's often been willing enough in the past to let himself be used in that manner. But generally he's as entitled to his opinion as the next guy.

And Connery praised Casino Royale, only saying the ending was bit too long and the music was S---. His words exactly.

Dalton praised Skyfall, essentially saying it perfectly provides the entertainment value people want from the cinema and Bond.

Other than that, I can only think of the former Bonds commenting on the new Bond actors if not their movies.

There's nothing wrong with Brosnan giving his honest opinion. I don't agree with his Bourne comments, though. To me SPECTRE felt like a Bond movie through and through.

I remember watching Premiere Bond on TV when Die Another Day was released. They were asking the stars for post viewing opinions. One person said to Moore.. "Out of Ten?", to which he replied "Eleven."

Moore has also mentioned Quantum of Solace too. He wasn't a fan if I remember correctly.

Brosnan was also quick to praise Craig as soon as they cast him, even though Brozza was still upset at EON.  And Pierce knows what it's like to shoot a film with script issues (TND rewritten during filming.)  And he was really praiseworthy of Skyfall, which borrowed heavily form both GE and TWINE.

As for the Bourne comparisons, I wish people would get over it.  Bourne stole from Bond first (amnesia and losing loved one comes from Fleming) before Bond movies emulated Bourne's.

Moore said he hadn't seen most of the movies after his. He said he liked Casino Royale very much, but didn't think Quantum of Solace was as good. He also said he thought Daniel Craig was the best Bond.

I appreciate the fact that Brosnan is enough of a fan of the Bond character to go see his successor's films in theaters, especially considering he and EON didn't part on the best of terms. I always found it disheartening that Michael Keaton (my favorite of the Batman actors), when asked his opinion about the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, has always answered, "I have no interest in those films."

So Brozza wasn't a huge fan of SP but thought that DC was the best thing in it? Hey, whaddya know, I'm just like Brozza (apart from the hair, of course)! While I understand he's been (refreshingly) honest about the end of his tenure, Brozza has been more than a good ambassador (and I'm sure ex-Bonds don't sign an agreement that says "I will never bash the series or EON."), definitely more so than Laz, or SC.

Nothing to see here for me.

I think he said he even bought the DVD of Casino Royale.

I have no problem with Brosnan voicing his opinion. He did praise Craig, who gave a great performance (though not his best). On top of that, I pretty much agree with what Pierce said.
