I don't think Bond cared much for the tapes after getting what he needed and learning White had a daughter, he just wanted to go.

And Hinx couldn't have survived that grizzly fate. If he did, he'd be a vegetable from the neck down. Again, great character and certainly served his purpose for the Bond film as all henchmen do and then bow out gracefully. :)

Yeah, I love Hinx. He was a great henchman in the best tradition of Oddjob and Jaws. But I do not want to see him return. The way he left the train would be too unbelievable to survive. Yes, Jaws managed to survive his exit from a moving train in The Spy Who Loved Me but we immediately saw that he lived and it was done plausibly. (I won't mention him surviving his parachute failing to open in Moonraker). However, we did not see Hinx survive his unscheduled exit from the train (nor Tee-Hee for that matter in Live And Let Die). And since we never saw him again, I have to conclude that he did, in fact, die.

The Daniel Craig era has tried to bring the series back to a more realistic level and having Hinx survive and return would fly in the face of that. No, better for Hinx to go out on a high note and have the memorable death of being yanked off a speeding train.

Agreed. His only line also suggests that he knew he was about to die.
