The Americans are savaging Spectre - despite the British press being mostly warm.

At the moment, it ranks lower on Rotten Tomotoes than Quantum of Solace.

What does this mean for the future?

Don't think it will make much difference, the reviews are only going to affect a few casual viewers. As long as audience enjoy it there is not going to be a significant drop in box office. Bond has been living - and living very well, too! - with scathing reviews for decades, didn't affect the audiences one jot. We tend to forget that Bond being well-received by critics is not actually the norm. And from what I gather here - bumping our poll-only topic conveniently: http://debrief.comma...g/#entry1322330- it doesn't look as if SPECTRE really was a disappointment for the general audience.

SPECTRE will do well at the box office.

That said, EON has developed a taste for critical approval, and so there will be some kind of course-correction for Bond 25.

If the B.O. does well, I am not sure what correction would be needed.

As above, poor reviews were the norm, and there were only the Moonraker to FYEO type 'corrections'.

Time will tell though.

EON craves prestige these days. They like putting out "instant classics" like Casino Royale and Skyfall. They're not looking to return to the "just another Bond film" era of Cubby anytime soon.

I don't know what their course correction would look like, but they'll surely take some of the criticism into account. For example,

If there is 'course correction', I hope it doesn't involve removing the humour that featured in Spectre.

I hope Eon don't pay attention to the critics - but, as has been said, they have certainly developed a taste for prestige. They seem to only ask people with Oscars these days.

I have no doubt they will want to aim high again, surely once more looking for awards. There is still something to left to win for a Bond production aside from a record box office.

Not surprising. The American reviews were always going to be poor, as that's what the critics here like to do. They built up the franchise with their SKYFALL reviews and now it's time to tear it back down by savaging the next film.

That said, it seems as though a lot of people are agreeing with those reviews and that the film isn't loved anywhere as near as much as SKYFALL was.
