Will it earn more or less than Skyfall?

 

Less. But not that much less. I'm expecting over $900m world wide. America on the other hand, will be significantly down.

The Monday to Thursday gross for SP in the U.S. was $25m, the equivalent for SF was $29m, QoS got $14m.

​Deadline are now forecasting $34m to $35m for the 2nd weekend, SF got $41m, QoS got $26m. 

 

Insedentaly, The Peanuts Movie (which some were predicting would overtake Spectre and take Number 1 this weekend) is now forecast to take about $24m.

If the multiplier is 2.5, it will be just under $200 million in the U.S.  They're predicting a 54% drop for the second weekend.

 

With average ticket prices about $8.25, and $70M on opening weekend, that means 8,484,848 tickets were sold.  With the US population about 320 million, that's about 2.5% of the population.  So 1 in 40 people saw SPECTRE last weekend.

It'll be less, but that really shouldn't be viewed as a bad thing. Films shouldn't have to make a billion dollars these days to be considered "successful".

This would put it roughly just north of $30 million behind the pace set by Skyfall in the United States. Interestingly, though, SPECTRE did manage to stay at #1 in its second weekend, something Skyfall was unable to do, thanks to the release of the final Twilight film, although it did climb back to #1 in its 5th week of release.

At ~$544 million worldwide, I can still potentially see Spectre reaching the $1 billion mark. Though, I still expect it'll top-out between $850 and $950 million. As tdalton said, the film doesn't need to make a billion to be considered a success.

Undoubtedly, there will be those that would label $850-$950 million as disappointing. The even better bet will be that such claims would come from the American media, which house some of the most worthless "journalists" anywhere in the world.

But, given the extremely troubled production of SPECTRE, the fact that it comes right on the heels of the most successful Bond film to date, and the lack of the bonanza of free advertising that the Olympics and 50th anniversary brought to Skyfall, making that kind of money should be looked at as a huge success. Heck, even without all of the hurdles that SPECTRE had to deal with, that kind of bank should be considered a success.

It definitely is a success commercially, lest there wouldn't be suitors queuing up to have their turn in a partnership with MGM; a contract that will be about not much else than James Bond (and perhaps a few uninteresting remakes). Bond is one of the very few franchises to earn its holders this kind of money.

No, judging by the figures SPECTRE is well on track.

Didn't see a thread for this.  This can be a thread for keeping track of the film's box office gross.

 

Do you think SPECTRE will beat Skyfall worldwide at the box office?  As has been the case, each Bond actor's 4th film has outgrossed his 3rd (and been his highest-grossing overall), despite lesser reviews.  So far, it looks like it won't come close to the same gross in the U.S., but is breaking records in other markets such as the U.K. and China (in the latter, it made $48M opening weekend, compared with SF's lifetime gross there of $59M).

Sadly, there are some that will claim that such a number is a disappointment. Given that the film has only been out for a couple of weeks in the US, and with Thanksgiving coming up this next week, SPECTRE will have made a hefty sum of money when it's all said and done.
