Wow Thomas Newman is such a lazy composer using the same thing that was already in another movie pathetic he really needs to learn how to make original music this shows how terrible his music skills really are he should not be composer. It's terrible.and yet again his music sounds generic and terrible.I thought about giving him another chance respect your buddies not proving himself.
My last sentence was messed up I could not fix it I meant to say I was willing to give him another chance for Spectre but he's just not proving himself to be a good composer

RESPECT YOUR BUDDIES.... sorry, amusing typo. Is the sword of Damocles dangling above this troll's head?

Nominations do not prove a thing. Show me his wins for an action score he did.

- BAFTA Award, Anthony Asquith Award for Film Musi for Skyfall
- ASCAP Film and Television Music Award, Top Box Office Films for Skyfall
- BMI Film & TV Award for Skyfall, Film Music (he won 17 of those)
- Grammy Award, Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for Skyfall
- International Film Music Critics Award, Best Original Score for an Action/Adventure/Thriller Film (IFMCA) for Skyfall

and a few more.

Oh vey, no Oscars. He's a total hack, because it's only the Oscars that count. Martin Scorsese is a complete idiot, too. He only won one Oscar, and it took him decades to achieve that...

That means nothing if you reuse old tracks from previous movies and try to past it off as an orignial peice of music. That is one thing that proves he is a lazy composer. Not to mention he copied of David Arnold's "The Name's Bond...James Bond Theme for skyfall. Thomas Newman is scared of change and to use the bond theme. I mean S*** its been since 2002 since we had the guitar bond theme play in a Bond movie. That is inexcusable. Despite his awards he recieved he has not proven himself worthy as a "Classic" bond composer. His tracks are nothing but background noise for me. I was really excited to hear the bond theme roar out between the aston and the jaguar in the car chase for spectre, then I had a listen to the track at work and I was like "he literally copied and pasted the same theme he used in skyfall. It's like this guy newman has no idea how to write an bond score. I read in reports that when he scored skyfall that he didn't want to even use the bond theme in the score, and no I am not joking. I'd rather have david arnold back, he is the only other composer that understand what is expected when your score a Bond movie. Newman is simply lazy. I hate when a composer reuses the same tracks, it is like they ran out of ideas. I prefer them not to compose anything then reuse the same generic, bland, tasteless piece of music. I am from this day forward am not listening to another piece of the soundtrack becuase If i do i probably will not see the movie period. The music is what drives me to see these films. If the bond theme ain't in the soundtrack it ain't a bond score. Plain and simple.

I quite liked Skyfall's score but I agree with Mr. Hinx : this sounds very lazy from him to re-use so much material from Skyfall, especially from the action sequences. Just like for David Arnold, all this action music is "background noise" as Mr. Hinx says. Nothing to do with John Barry's wonderfull action scores ("Ice chase", "Palace Fight", "Snow Job"...).

My illiterate rants? Why don't you learn to comprehend sentences. It's not my fault your retarded and cannot understand. Don't drop out of school, you need your education. I am telling you newman's music sucks. Deal with it. If you cannot offer anything to the topic at hand keep your mouth shut or better yet keep them off the keyboard. I criticised newman yet you call me illiterate...don't smack a shark unless you are expecting to get bitten.

I couldn't agree more about John Barry's wonderful Bond scores. Part of what was great about the 1960s movie imho.

That said - "Snow Job" from AVTAK, which I like a lot, has echoes of the theme for "OHMSS".

Now that we're back on track... I could easily imagine that the choral bit of 'Backfire' fits in with the car chase sweeping past the Vatican.

Sounds great. I'm a fan of it picking up on SKYFALL. Now we know what The Newman Bond Theme is.

That choral bit's bloody lovely and I can't wait to hear it over the car chase. Might just be me, but it does sound strikingly similar to parts of Danny Elfman's score for 'Batman Returns', though.

I just wish when it came time to pick a track to release they would have picked one that was a little more different than material we'd already heard... :(

Well, I'm out and about today - board meeting (not like the one in SPECTRE!), teaching, campaigning and then another meeting this evening, and my driving around is going to be like handling a DB5, because I'll have the SPECTRE soundtrack CD on! I've already heard some of it and I'm quite impressed. So far it sounds even more like a Bond soundtrack than Skyfall did, good though that was.

Anyway, must dash - got several secret missions - sorry, appointments to fit in! ;)

Well, I've heard it all, and I think it's a definite improvement on Skyfall. There are one or two moments which will remind you of the Skyfall soundtrack but much of this score is different, at least to my tin ear. If I had to compare it with what's gone before? - well, Thunderball has been mentioned and there are echoes, along with Live And Let Die (One track in particular.) but on first listen it reminded me of - and I know there are those who are less than thrilled with this recent Bond film - the QoS soundtrack, which is, I think, my favourite David Arnold Bond score.

That said, I'll probably listen again and come to a different conclusion. One thing strikes me though, - this does not sound like the score for a "send up" Bond film. It's an action/adventure/romance score, I think.

Interview with Newman on the soundtrack - including him confirming that WOTW is reprised in the film:

So yeah - two massive omissions in the album.

1. Newman's fantastic combo (will make sense once you actually hear it) gunbarrel cue.
2. his own (!!!!!!!) short instrumental arrangement of Writing's on the Wall that appears in the film

Also, can we talk about the barrel cue
Spoiler

Have to say this soundtrack didn't really shout out to me like 'Skyfall' did, and I noticed a great deal of material re-used here; some parts made logical sense, others just in the action/drama scenes. I mean it's good, but nothing I felt I haven't already heard.

And being honest, the barrel cue wasn't my favourite either. Too fast and OTT for me, too much brass and percussion. The more muted affair like 'TND' suits me more - a hint of menace rather than in-your-face blaring out. Just my opinion of course. :)

It's criminal that the Gunbarrel wasn't included on the OST. I loved it - particularly with the slow build up. That was a lovely touch and something I'd happily have return.

Praying for this score to get a FYC release like SF. That had most of the unreleased material though unfortunately it edited out all quotations of the Bond theme for copyright reasons. Are there any other missing cues apart from the gunbarrel, the end of PTS and the WOTW instrumental?
