It's been exactly 10 years when Daniel Craig was announced as the 6th James Bond, on October 14, 2005! And it even coincides with Roger Moore's birthday!

Good question.

I was sat here (I'm not sure I've moved that much since), little anticipating the schism. All that shrieking. All those years. All those gits.

Doesn't time fly? 10 years. Blimey.

I'll never forget, as it was announced during my godson's 8th birthday party and I was stuck at their farmhouse in Nevers, trying to watch a live stream with rubbish internet and about 50 screaming children running from room to room. Not fun.

I do remember being surprised and delighted when I saw Daniel Craig on the boat, and also felt quite sorry for Ewan Stewart (Poor bloke. Remember him?).

Probably asking somebody what they were doing when they heard JFK was shot, or some other event of ACTUAL historic importance.

Honestly, when I heard the news, I was just shaking my head in disbelief. My neck is VERY sore now, as I don't think I've ever stopped.

I was here, too. My head also did a lot of shaking since. Though most of that patently not because of Craig I must confess...

Sorry, I just clicked on this from the splash page, didn't realize it was in the Craig sub-forum, I honestly for once was NOT trying to infuriate anybody.

I was sat on my laptop with Facebook open ready to share the news as it was breaking live on BBC News from the Thames, and I remember it all happening on TV. I was so excited as this was the first Bond transition from actor to actor I remember. I was...8 when Dalton/Brosnan happened and not into the BTS elements of Bond then.

From then, I was sold on Craig and put all my faith in him. Currently not disappointing me at all. :)

Watched it on the TV and online - watched him on that marine boat and I have to admit I at first thought "you've got to be kidding!" Blonde hair looking a little longish - not what I was expecting.

But haven't all the naysayers been proved well and truly wrong? After the initial surprise about the casting, I now consider Daniel Craig to be the best Bond since the first Bond, Sean Connery., and in some ways even better than him.

Everything I've read and seen recently about the new film suggests a nod to those days when I discovered Bond through the Connery films, so I must say I am looking forward to my next trip to the multiplex at 7.30 pm, 26th October 2015.

It was an important time in my life as I was getting ready to enter the last week of a job I'd had for nearly 10 years for an important career step. I was a bit nervous, so this was a welcome distraction. I recall watching all the E Network and Entertainment Tonight coverage of Craig's announcement and felt pretty good about him from the beginning as I was never a big Brosnan supporter.

I was also likely on here that date. I should do some research on that as I'm curious as to what I said at the time.

I knew where I was in my home in Sydney. I was in the Sydney motor show 2005. When I heard the new James Bond Daniel Craig was announced I saw 3 new Aston Martin for the first time in Sydney motor show since 2000. I wondered which one he'll drive to replace his Vanquish which drove in DAD. V8 Vantage was rumoured till he was going to get revive DBS with V12 in Casino Royale well as the Classic DB5. I was glad Daniel Craig was announced. Got the Key to the new Aston Martin.

I honestly can't remember. I didn't thought it was that important to remember in the first place.

I think he did a nice job the last ten years, but he's not my favorite, that's still Roger Moore.

My immediate reaction to the question was so much like Jim's response that I didn't post it, but, on reflection, I can add a bit more.  I'd just come home from work and logged on here.  I'd been reading the speculation for weeks, but I'd come around to thinking that this Craig fellow might just be the man for the job.  When I saw on CBn that he'd been cast, my reaction was that EON had made a reasonable choice.

But, wow, I hadn't been prepared for the firestorm that erupted, with page upon page of commentary.  Yes, there were supporters and a number of thoughtful negative comments, but many of the complaints about Craig were simply venomous, and a good few were slanderous.  That went on well into the production period, but word of mouth began to emerge that "Casino Royale" was turning into a great movie.  Even following the premiere, quite a bit of naysaying persisted, but the majority of fans were won over in a big way.  It's been an amazing decade for Bond fans, with highpoints that have far exceeded the lows.

The UK premiere is now just ten days away, and I'm excited as I've ever been..

I remember that I was not in favor of Craig at first.  I loved Brosnan and was conditioned to believe that anybody who had to follow at least had to bring the traditional looks.

Yeah, shallow me.  I was young, you know, and I... um...

But CASINO ROYALE won me over.  And with QUANTUM OF SOLACE I was absolutely a Craig fan.  He absolutely redefined the role for me.

Oh, the question was: where were you?

At home.  Watching the press conference on the internet.  Feeling the cold reception by the media.  Craig really must have gone through hell during that time.

Sitting in my office and watching the press conference. Different office than today. Luckily, I always had employers for a certain understanding for this hobby and that there were days when I needed an hour or two off because "Bond things" were happening.

The CBn team had some unofficial confirmations a day or two ago that it really would be Craig. IIRC, a last minute email from a source was worded a bit unclear, so we suddenly saw a slim chance for a Brosnan return. We had an idea that not everyone would be pleased with the choice, but weren't really prepared for what would happen. Moderating this forum was far from wine and roses at the time. My signature line is a relic from those times...

I was in tenth grade (yikes) and on the computer in one of my tech classes. I wasn't a member here yet but I kept refreshing the main page waiting for the news to break. Feels like yesterday.

I don't remember the moment.  But I remember thinking, "Really?"  I was one of the skeptical ones and I remember giggling at the whole CraigNotBond.com thing.  So I went into Casino Royale thinking he had something to prove (and did he ever?!)

Should Bond actors be treated like political leaders?

I was in the car on my way to a job interview and I heard it announced on the radio.
He and I are the same age and both of us are from Chester, so I took it as a good omen.
And I got my job too!

I watched it on Sky News UK, via Sky News Australia on TV, having heard about it on here.

I always remember one journalist asking if James Bond would smoke in Casino Royale and Martin Campbell explained that Bond is a role model of sorts, and young people would be watching and so there would be no smoking in the film.

And another journalist asked "He's still going to shoot people isn't he?"
