I always like hearing from the producers, and although they don't give much away, it's a good read.

It's an interesting read, but it sure is amazing how skilled the producers are at answering interview questions and still managing to say basically nothing.

Agreed.  Still, it was good to hear them talk about Craig having an open ended contract.  Hopefully there's been some discussion with Craig about continuing on beyond Bond 25.

Very interesting interview!  And Thomas Newman has already composed music for the Mexico-sequence!

Source music, but still it's pretty cool!

I love Broccoli's answer to the Elba question. " I think it's always like asking a woman who is going up the aisle who her next husband is going to be"

Have to say they did a good job of giving nothing away re: plot or future films, they must get so much of that in questions trying to prize open glimpses of future Bond stories!

Yeah, that's the most interesting point from the interview for me! I'd love for him to match Connery's run.

I don't think they really plan those things out that far in advance.

Given the increasingly heavy serialized nature of the Craig films, it's amazing at how much they've just gone by the seat of their pants in terms of crafting the stories rather than coming up with at least a bare bones outline of how things should progress from film to film.

I was thinking about Craig's tenure recently and how long he will remain in the role. Personally I hope he remains in the role for the foreseeable future. Since the Craig era has indeed become more serialized and has a deeper exploration of the character of Bond I wonder if they will allow Craig to age in the role much as Roger Moore did in the 1980s. It's not outside the realm of possibility when Liam Neeson at age 62 is one of the biggest action star in the world. It might be interesting to see a seasoned Craig play Bond well into his 50s.

Age is not the issue it use to be, however since Bond's age was already brought up in Skyfall the precedent is set if they choose to deal with it in the future. To push the idea even further they could even bookend the Craig era with Bond's retirement. What a unique opportunity to have Craig play Bond from the beginning to the end of his career as a Double-O agent.

The Craig era has gone from being a series of adventure starring James Bond to a series of films telling the story of Bond's career. We've seen the beginning of this story, will we also see an ending?

It's also interesting that they say they haven't yet chosen who will sing the SPECTRE theme song.

Two possibilities:-

  1. They have chosen a title artist, but rather than saying "We have someone but we won't say who" and be pressured for an answer, they say that they haven't chosen anyone.
  2. They haven't yet chosen an artist, and are telling the truth.

Also fascinating when they say they've looked online and like the fact that people are trying to put the puzzle together based on the teaser trailer.

Does MGW mean articles like the one in the Guardian, or has he been on CBn??  ;)

I think that they're just saying that as misdirection. Mendes is already on record as heavily implying that they've already made the decision on the title song performer. Given that the rumored choices are Sam Smith or a return by Adele, I'm hoping that the statements by Wilson and Broccoli turn out to be true and they haven't decided, since that would open the door to someone different.

Me too.

What about the fact that they have seen comments on the trailer online? How often do you think the producers look at online reaction? Everyone does it more than they used to, so surely they're the same?

The whole thing about the early stages of the build up to a Bond film, and comments from cast and crew, is misdirection, otherwise it spoils the surprise nearer the release date when nearly all is revealed. And given the leaks problem, I imagine this is doubly the case with Spectre. Hence the strenuous denials by Christoph Waltz that his character is really Blofeld - and you never know, that may be proved right. And also the subject of who will perform the theme tune. Many believed that Adele would perform the Skyfall theme from an early stage of production - but went all around the houses with other names before it was revealed in October 2012 that...... Adele would perform the Skyfall theme.

It may be the case here that the artiste has already been chosen for Spectre's theme. Or maybe not. There might even be a last minute change of plan - recall "Thunderball" with Tom Jones very much a last minute signing after the "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" theme was rejected.

As the late Sir Patrick Moore used to say about baffling galactic phenomena; "We simply don't know". And we won't until not long before the film's release.

Probably more than I would have thought a few years ago.  I would imagine that they check it around the times of major events in the production, such as the release of posters and trailers and, of course, the release of the actual film.  In between those, I doubt they give it a whole lot of thought.

With the advent of Twitter, celebrities are able to find out what their fans and their detractors really think about them, and so it makes sense that actors and movie makers would be using social media as much as the rest of us. When Daniel Craig became 007, he said that he had read the comments online. Judi Dench also said she had seen the craignotbond stuff too.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Bond cast or crew check this site!

But the real question, in my mind, is: to what extent do BB and MGW really care about the opinions expressed on this site?

There have been a fair number of us (myself included) who have been somewhat concerned with certain decisions made in recent years, and I for one would love to hear the producers attempt to allay these concerns. For example: the overused "this time it's personal" motif (since 1989!), M globetrotting with Bond, the MI6 team essentially becoming main characters, the return to Bond's past, the implied (by the trailer, at least) connection between Bond and Oberhauser, the lack of a "normal" mission.

Yes, I know, in the grand scheme of movie-making, the opinions of a few of us on CBn are irrelevant, as the general public's reaction ($$$) is more important than the endless debates and discussions on the fan forums. I am speaking more in a theoretical sense. I am curious if the producers are even aware of these concerns.

If I could discuss just one thing with BB and MGW, it would be this.

I would imagine that, at least on some very basic level, they're aware of it.  Of course, as you said, their main priority is making sure that the general public is happy with what they're doing, as the hardcore Bond enthusiasts aren't enough to keep MGM and EON afloat on their own.

I think it would be rather interesting to hear what their responses would be to some of the questions and concerns that those who post on sites like this have in terms of decisions made over the past couple of films and where things are headed, if for no other reason than to get an idea as to how they go about making the films and coming up with new ideas every 2-4 years.

I agree with you Tiin, but I must say that any mention of Oberhauser and SPECTRE in a Bond movie is a nod to the fans, more than the general public.

This is THE question but I do think that we, on this Forum, know our Bond much more than BB and MGW. E.g I remember having seen on a DVD extra BB mixing FRWL and DN for Rosa Klebb appearance.

I am pretty convinced that they do not re-watch or re-read Bond films or books. I have the feeling they mostly focus on the next one based on how well did the previous one,  not taking really care of the 'big picture'

Monsieur Hansen, I seriously doubt that any fan knows the subject better than the people who have been dealing with it for decades.

Fans might think they know and would do better - but they never do.
