I saw this film a few days ago at an early screening and I was pretty disappointed. The tone didn't really sit well with me. It wasn't goofy enough to be a parody but could certainly not be taken seriously. A lot oft the jokes fall flat. Good action, but bland overall. Not very memorable at all.

Like a 6 or 7 out of 10.

This is kind of what I expected after seeing the trailer. Seems to be caught between two stools.

Besides, the cast looks weak (except for Firth, obviously).

I guess I'll watch it when it's on TV some sunday night.

I welcome a film with the 70´s Bond vibe... but judging from the trailers and the scenes that are promoting the film on youtube I get the feeling that this is mixing too much tonalities to actually be like 70´s Bond.  Instead it wants to be a clever wink-wink post-post-modernistic blockbuster, with CGI-laden, over-the-top fight scenes and Vaughn´s KICK ASS-style.

I plan to check it out. Opens here on the 13th. Should be a bit of fun and I could use some entertaining nonsense to fill the void until the fall. Also, given the timing of the release and how it fairs, I suspect it'll be out to DVD and download just prior to SPECTRE to maybe ride the pre-wave of the Bond PR machine. Although not in the same vein (for the most part based on the reviews thus far) the first Austin Powers movie didn't do all that well on release, but exploded when it went to DVD.

We'll see. As with all films, I have a simple ranking system:

- See it NOW

- Catch it when you can

- Wait for video

- Wait for cable

- Maybe once it's broadcast

- Don't bother unless your sick in bed

- Burn out your eyes with a torch to avoid it

Worked for years.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film and felt it was the perfect mix of James Bond and Kick Ass that I never knew I needed...

...which was the same way I felt about Samuel L. Jackson with a lisp: I never knew I needed it, but I'm so glad it's in my life!

I'm definitely going to be picking up this film on Blu-ray when it "streets!"

Thought it was much more of an updated Our Man Flint than James Bond.

Colin Firth definetly had abit of a Roger Moore vibe to his character- (although that makes sense given Moore was probably the most gentlemanly of our six gentleman agents.)

It was abit more of a homage than a parody- (it doesn't make of the genre as such, like say Austin Powers does, its just very self-aware and excessive.)

It is alittle bit like Vaughn's Kick-Ass, but about Spy movies rather than Super-Hero films.

I enjoyed it more than I expected to, although it was more or less what I expected the film to be.

It's like a GOOD 'Avengers' movie mixed with James Bond and Kick-Ass!

I enjoyed it. Not as overt a Bond pastiche as I thought it would be, but still stylish and funny.

Didn't really see any "Flint" in it. However, I caught it last night.

I...HAD....FUN!

I'd read the graphic novel years ago, but I loved the frenetic style of the combat scenes. Colin Firth really rocked it and it probably took weeks to film each.

I found it to be a mix/mash of classic Avengers in tone, but with a sense of fun that reminded me of the "Helm" films with a touch of Austin Powers wink....Probably due to the glasses.

The specific mention of Bond is direct, yet well played IMO.

Also, "Gazelle" is such a wonderful Femme' Fatale' that was born of the classic villainess. The nod to Man from UNCLE with having the HQ based in a tailor shop was unmistakable (didn't hurt that the TMFU trailer - brilliant on the big screen BTW - played in front and got a great crowd reaction) and a few other nods were quite nice.

I enjoyed the Hell out of it. Filled the void for me.

I'll put a Fiver on there being a sequel.

As to my above standard set in my above post, "Catch it when you can"

It was a good time.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too, and while I liked the trailers I approached it with some caution as I'm often somewhat underwhelmed by these kind of geek hype films (Kick-Ass was OK, but Scott Pilgrim?)

Some critics have suggested that it ultimately fails as it sets itself up as a satire of the Bond films, but has nothing to say about them. I disagree; this isn't aiming for satire. Kick-Ass was kind of a modern, cynical take on Adam West/Dick Tracy style comic book hijinks which tried to mask itself as a satire with a quasi-realistic angle which ultimately came undone by embracing the clichés it ridiculed in its dialogue and ending up as or less realistic than Iron Man. This film never strives for realism and hole-heartedly embraces a retro throwback to a style of a particular genre which has fallen out of fashion in recent years; it's a celebration, not a subversion.

It's not perfect, for a start it could have used a lavish PTS in place of the rather abrupt opening, but if even just once in the past decade you've caught yourself hoping that the next Bond film is a grand scale adventure with a dastardly plan carried out by boiler suited henchemen in a leftover Ken Adams set I think you owe it to yourself to give this a go. As well as Bond there's touches of Harry Potter (I guess?), Kill Bill, Hot Fuzz and even the good old Saw films, but at the end of the day it is its own thing and as naff as a cliché as this may be I can't remember the last time I had so much fun in the cinema.

I hope this provokes a newfound appreciation for the Gilbert-style Bond movie among the geek/cult audience who are Vaughn and Miller's biggest advocates, but we'll see.

Would you recommend the graphic novel?

Certainly. In a way, it did sort of remind of Sin City in how it was adapted. Not so much style or look (obviously) but in the way it was done.

@Safari above - Very much agreed.

Yet to see this film as I know very little of it, but came across this deleted scene of a digitally de-aged Michael Caine:

Saw this over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.  As long as you go in accepting it for what it is (an over the top Moore-era inspired spy caper overtly done in the style of the movie Kick-Ass), then I think most Bond fans will enjoy it.  It was a bit too long, a bit too repetitious, and a bit too over the top at times for me personally, but the overall concoction was quite a bit of fun.  It is less of a parody and more of a sarcastic wink of a love letter to the Moore-era Bond films.  Austin Powers this is not, yet I laughed as hard or harder at many of the gags in Kingsman than in Mike Meyers' movies.

I really enjoyed Kingsman and am looking forward to the sequel (but I'm a bit sad Colin Firth won't be in it). It's not Bond, it's just a bit of fun. But very good fun at that.

Interesting aside: While the bespoke Savile Row tailor shop cover was partly modelled on the real and storied Huntsman, some of you may be interested to hear the success of the film has led to a 'real' Kingsman menswear label being established. It is stocked at the high-end online menswear emporium Mr Porter. Basically, apart from the suits, it is a curated re-badging of exiosting products that fit the look and feel of the film. You can check it out here: http://www.mrporter....igners/kingsman

Tell you what. Colin Firth would've made a cracking Bond.

If this film is anything to go by, I disagree.
