Are there any current scriptwriters who you think would deliver a fantastic Bond film in the coming years? Obviously Neal Purvis & Robert Wade can't work on Bond films forever, and someone will have to take over the scriptwriting duties in the future,

With SPECTRE, John Logan was - initially, the sole scriptwriter. Apparently the producers weren't happy with the results and they went back to the guys they felt comfortable with, but this can't happen with every film.

Anton Bovell? Did a nice job adapting "A Most Wanted Man" and "Edge of Darkness" (for Martin Campbell). Could well adapt/draw inspiration from/work in the spirit of Fleming/what's left to be picked over. Might be able to produce the tone that EON currently favor.

If SPECTRE is as successful as Skyfall then I think Purvis and Wade will be back to work on the next one but there will always be outside help too. I don't think they will get to write one on their own. But you can't argue with their success, even if you don't like their work.

That´s why EON always goes back to Fleming.

If they are willing to go for Sam Mendes as director......then a bigger name screenwriter should be work? Would they bring back Peter Morgan who left production? They should be at least two writer plus a script doctor.......

There should be only one writer or writing team, IMO.  Screenwriting does not get better with more people coming in.  It´s really the "too many cooks in the kitchen"-problem: in the end a tasty meal might come out of it - but it´s a far cry from the original which would have tasted so much better and distinct.

And bringing in big names like Peter Morgan does not solve anything.  The writer has to know what a James Bond needs, instead of forcing their own ideas into the formula, which always leads to problems (see John Logan´s departure).

One of my favorite scripts of all time is Sexy Beast, written by Louis Mellis and David Scinto. The dialogue is so good that you assume it must've been largely improvised, but i've heard Kingsley/Winston say in interviews that it was straight off the page. Truly amazing and unique IMHO. Don Logan is for me without doubt the greatest villain ever committed to film.

Before that they did the excellent Gangster No1, which at the time created a little talk of it's star Paul Bettany being a potential Bond.

Since Beast they wrote 44 Inch Chest, which was a little underwhelming in comparison to Beast, but still a strong script in comparison to everything else.

Since then there's just been a short film and a crime drama in development which is a real shame. I think 44 Inch Chest probably set them back a little as everyone expected a new Sexy Beast. But i think their problem is that their working in the same genre and finding themselves aping their own masterpiece. Moving into slightly different cinematic territory could be the shot in the arm they need as writers, who are obviously incredibly talented. I'd take the risk of letting them loose on Bond.

From John Logan to Don Logan...

It's an interesting idea. Not one I'd ever associated with Bond. Shame they haven't done much since really, so we'd have a better idea of what they might be able to offer.

As long as we're getting KISS KISS BANG BANG Shane Black and not IRON MAN THREE Shane Black, sure. But if it's the latter? Count me out.

Exactly, the guy virtually invented what we call a good action movie - one that never forgets how important the character is and always remembers to make them human, at risk and therefore provides buckets of dramatic tension.

Sure, Iron Man 3 has it's critics, but for me it was the best in the series by a long way. It had great wit, Downey's character seemed more at risk than ever before as well as a great villain reveal that worked as a genuine surprise. As the biggest grossing movie of the year i'm not alone in liking it.

True, but IMO KKBB and Iron Man show he's still got it and then some. What he does constantly magnificently is portray the anti-hero and that's pretty much Fleming's (and Craig's) Bond.

Martin Riggs, as well as the anti-heroes of The Last Boy Scout and Long Kiss Goodnight are as good as it gets. I'd love to see his treatment of Bond.
