Actually, I could imagine Cher belting out Golden Gun, FYEO, LTK, or even GE.

Depeche Mode, on the other hand - although some of the soundtrack to GoldenEye seemed reminiscent.

Michael Jackson. Song would have been good, but it may have overshadowed whatever film it accompanied.

I'd agree with that one.  He was a great artist back in the day, but not one that I could really see being associated with the Bond franchise.

The video sure would have. And the film would have been '...the film to go with that Michael Jackson song.'

Modern Talking. Most of you won't have an idea who they are supposed to be. Be very thankful for this.

Beyonce...who has been rumoured for the last 2 films..Please don't ever let this happen.

Guns n Roses. I can remember stories that they were being lined up to do the theme for Dalton's 3rd Bond film in the early 90s

Blood, Sweat and Tears. George Lazenby was convinced that they'd be far better at We Have All The Time In The World than boring old Louis Armstrong.....

Oh George.

Actually Debbie Harry did record a Bond theme, for FYEO. It was just never used. Same with Alice Cooper - and his The Man With The Golden Gun isn't bad.

Returning to the topic, and a generic answer:

Any rap artiste you care to mention. Nothing against rap if you like that sort of thing, but it's just not Bond.

Good point. And to follow on from Take That;

Robbie Williams?

At one point the red top tabloids were touting him as not only a future Bond theme singer, but a future Bond.

Wear a tuxedo and you, too, can be touted as the next 007.

That would be another one I'd give my vote to in this thread.  It wouldn't have shocked me at all, given the level of quality of the Brosnan era films, if they had gone that route, as it would have been, much like everything else in those films, done almost exclusively because of the marketing possibilities.  Very glad that EON didn't go in that direction, although we only got one good title song during that era anyway.

Not sure that they would have done worse than Madonna's effort in Die Another Day, though.

I recall a red top report which claimed that Mel C - "Sporty Spice"? - would perform the theme for Pierce Brosnan's third film, untitled at the time. I think it was in the same newspaper which reported that the villain would be played by Sharon Stone, with Ewan McGregor as her accomplice. Sharon Stone would play an ex CIA agent and former lover of Bond out for revenge for some reason, Ewan McGregor would play the by product of said liaison from way back, also out for revenge. I don't know why. Perhaps Bond had stopped paying his child support!

I swear I haven't made this up - I remember reading it sometime in the autumn of 1998.

(Come to think of it, when you consider how Bond has been spreading his seed around, it's only a matter of time before a former lover gets ideas! ;))

Well, I was accused by my English teacher of being the biggest cynic he'd ever met. I was 11 years old at the time! ;)

What a childhood. Which is why it was only a matter of time that my reading habits included Ian Fleming.

But to get back to the topic - and my childhood - can I suggest that the Moore era missed a musical bullet by not hiring The Bay City Rollers to perform a theme tune?

(For readers under 45, Google them and you'll see what I mean.)

Also, Eurovision was a semi serious competition "when I were a lad". We had ex-Eurovision competitor Lulu doing the theme from TMWTGG, but apart from Abba, perhaps, I can't think of any other winner from that contest who could do a Bond theme. Certainly not in this day and age - I can't even think of a winner.

Couple of other names have just sprung to mind. Cliff Richard - try as I might I can't see it and I don't think he'd have done it anyway. Also, and apologies to anyone from Ireland, but;

Daniel O'Donnell.

(I am now repositioning my tongue, which for the past few minutes has been firmly stuck in my cheek! :) )

Amy Winehouse (with all due respect) I've always found her music VASTLY overrated...
