Filming in Obertilliach will take 3-7 days.

This will involve 2 "Aircraft" which are being transported from England. The Airport at Doelsach has already been booked to accommodate this.

At least one of the aircraft will crash into the set being built in the area.

It looks as if there will also be filming in Sölden, with some sequences shoot on the Rettenbachferner Glacier.

The glacier is located west of Sölden, 2600-3360m above sea level.

Looks like they want to one up the tube crash. Can't wait to see how they're going to go about this one.

Do you think Austria the actual script location or do you think it's substituting for the North or South Poles?

I'm not a specialist, but I don't think Austria looks anything like the North or South Pole, so I'd say it's either it's Austria in the script, or it's doubling for another Alpine location.

On an unrelated note: it feels sooooo good to have a "spoiler" section for Bond24... things are getting serious now! :)

I think this location will be for the pre-title sequence, due to the amount of days they are rumoured to shoot there. I also believe that Skyfall's shoot began with the pre-title sequence but don't hold me on it.

Here it says that filming shoud take place in January, and that insider rumours have it that the team will be accomodated at Grand Hotel Lienz and the Dolomiten Golf Hotel. Fo those who want to plan their Winter holidays :)

Brings back memories of the planes crashing in Goldeneye. Looking forward to what they come up with here.

Sounds oddly like Raymond Benson's High Time to Kill doesn't it? I really hope there's no 'skin 17' in Bond 24 haha.

It's funny cause I made up my own Bond 24, which was based on High Time to Kill haha.

Of course a coincidence, but fans of Malko Linge - the agent series by Gérard de Villiers - may smile about the fact Linge's castle (the main reason for his freelancing for the CIA) is situated close to Lienz.

EDIT: Oh...I just see that was Liezen, not Lienz...pardon my stupidity...

You knew didn't you? He's a Lienz Cossack, he'll betray you!

Really really hoping this means we'll finally see DC on skis!

I think that's a fairly safe assumption at this point.  I'm excited for it as well after a few films now with mostly warm weather locations.

Yes I'd say it's probable.

Do we know, btw, if in real life DC knows how to ski? If not I feel for him...

Sounds great! Shades of 'The World Is Not Enough' and those para-hawks came to mind with that picture...hopefully it wont be as limp as that sequence...!

I'm secretly hoping for an avalanche scene; something akin to OHMSS, but with modern effects and filming techniques... but maybe it's just me.

I'm so happy we're going to a cold location this time 'round. I hope it's a bit of a spiritual remake of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, would be nice to see a stone cold classic Bond film set in Austria. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong this time. I remember we were close to getting something similar for the climax of Quantum of Solace, before it was changed to the desert setting we eventually ended up with.

I wonder if you might have Bond escape from a crashing plane, and ends up high in the mountains and is forced to climb down, bringing haunted memories of his parent's death. Just a thought.

True. There will be those who won't ever want to dive too deep into Bond's past - lose the mystery, I guess. I'm one of those who have always wondered how Bond's parents would be interpreted/played on film.

I'll be surprised if Bond's parents feature, even in flashback, in the next film. They are not a part of how "Bond became Bond" in the way that Bruce Wayne's parents were in the Batman stories. Bond didn't wind up in the British SIS because of his parent's deaths, tragic though they were - as an orphan he could have gone into some other line of work, it just happened that, supposedly, MI6 in the Fleming/Bond universe has a tendency to recruit orphans. Wayne, on the other hand was deeply affected by his parents' murders and we know how that turned out for him later.

Bond's family featured in the second part of SF in passing references - another tenuous link with the novel You Only Live Twice, where we learn of Bond's family background via a rather premature obituary. But friends of mine who saw SF didn't even realise what Bond's family background was until then, and I doubt it would be that important to a general audience.

No - I think they're probably going to Austria because it forms a backdrop to the main story. Unless, that is, there's another borrowing from Fleming - a reference not only to Andrew and Monique Bond's accident, but also to Hannes Oberhauser, the guide killed in the short story Octopussy who was a father figure for Bond. He's not mentioned in the film OP - the stolen gold events related by Bond took place in Korea - but he could crop up here, if only to provide another tenuous link to the Bond sources material. Clutching at straws, I know.

Guy, you just shot me with a theoretical lightning bolt! Maybe I want to see Bond's parents because I'm just as big a Batman nerd as I am a Bond nerd!

Lovely shots of the snow capped peaks!! Just oozes vibes of Piz Gloria and the Swiss skiing sequences from OHMSS! :)  I'd love to have a snow peak climbing sequence which could rival the St. Cyrils rock climbing scene in FYEO!

It was a bit obvious that Pierce couldn't...

Bit hard for someone to have a flashback to events they didn't witness!
