I first heard whispers of this months ago, now Hitfix say they can confirm it.

Just to show how trustworthy this report is, it was written by Kristopher Tapley, who broke the news that Roger Deakins would not be coming back, having been told it personally by Deakins himself over dinner. He wouldn't be saying he can confirm Hoyte van Hoytema unless he was 100% confident.

Good choice. Hoytema was the DP on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Her. He's an up-and-coming talent, and noted for his versatility. And of course he's a Swede, so he'll fit right in with the Scandinavian motif.

Yes, his work on 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' and 'Her' is very impressive indeed. I haven't seen 'Let the Right One In' yet - it's said that that is what first brought him to international recognition, it also shows his work with snow, so I'm about to order that on Blu-ray.

Let the Right One in, is an incredible movie.

I saw this on Film4 simply because it was from Sweden (I am all caught up with the Nordic and Scandinavian offerings on Film and BBC 4), and not because it was anything vampire related.  Indeed, the latter is what would turn me away what with all the Twiglet offerings...

I can wholeheartedly recommend this film.  The two child leads are breathtaking in their displays of soul.

I haven't seen the US remake, Let Me In.  Although, this also got great reviews.

Awesome. "Let the Right One In" was an amazingly good looking film, so I find this choice to be a great move.

Wonderful.  Once again, thank you so much, Shrublands!  I´ll put it on the main page if it didn´t happen already.

You are very welcome, guys! I'm really pleased with this news.

I've just ordered a copy of 'Let the Right One In" as a sort of celebration.

Is this the first of "many" reveals to come? I expect we will be seeing more soon (perhaps confirming some of the casting rumors) as the December date races at us.

Excellent.. I had the oddest feeling that somehow we might get some sort of Bond 24 news on Goldfinger day.. Hmm.. I've never seen any of Hoyte van Hoytema's films so I'm curious to see what he can bring to the world of James Bond.. :)

If you aren't adversed to horror, Let the Right One In is spectacular. And of course, Tinker Tailor...

I've been doing a bit of digging and I think I've found something rather interesting. On a recent IMAX conference call meeting for investors, this was said...

Rich Gelfond - CEO

And then of course in December you have Star Wars which J.J. Abrams is shooting a part of with IMAX cameras and Bond is probably going to have either our cameras or our aspect ratio.

It certainly fits with the fact that Hoytema has just been using IMAX cameras on Interstellar and that Eon were very happy with Skyfall's profile on IMAX and seemed keen to expand upon that.

Nice! Never got around to seeing of his DP work, but I remember seeing the trailers for Her & Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and thinking how beautiful those films looked. Really solid choice!

I was talking about Hoytema on twitter with our very own thecasinoroyale earlier this morning about the news. I'm extremely excited having him on board. He's building his resume up nicely, having worked with Thomas Alfredson, David O. Russell, Spike Jonze, Christopher Nolan, and now Sam Mendes. His work on Let The Right One In and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy are absolutely incredible, but it's his cinematography for Her that was just pure brilliance and just beautiful. Even judging his work in the trailers for Interstellar, Nolan's upcoming film, looks outstanding. I recently rewatched Her on blu ray and just sat in awe over the cinematography.

I believe that with Mendes direction, Hoyte Van Hoytema can really bring a unique vision and just as appealing style as Roger Deakins did with Skyfall, to Bond 24. This is a great successor to Deakins, and I believe he'll really broaden the epic scope that Deakins set with Skyfall.

That's rather interesting considering pretty much all theater projections are now projecting film digitally rather than film stock (35mm, 65mm, & 70mm) and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is believed to be the last film to be distributed to cinemas with IMAX film stock and projected through film stock projectors. Guess I was wrong, which is good, because it'd be shame to have blockbusters just going with digital IMAX conversion rather than shooting.

My first viewing of Skyfall was in a special 4K digital projection, and being that the film was shot digitally, it looked amazing. My second viewing the next day was in IMAX and for being just converted to IMAX standard aspect ration, looked breathtaking. If Bond 24 ends up being shot with IMAX cameras I'll be absolutely excited.

Great news! It's nice to see them getting in more talent to join the Bond family. This news finally made me get around to watching the Interstellar trailer as well. It looks great, very very well shot, too. I remember loving the look of Tinker Tailor Solider Spy as well as Let The Right One in. Excited to see how Bond 24 turns out with Hoytema at the helm. It's almost sure to be on par if not better than Skyfall in terms of it having it's own individual feel.

Agreed, his work is beautiful to look at. Also agree about the individuality, hopefully help Mendes avoid just remaking Skyfall which I think's always the danger when a director returns to a franchise.

I thought HER was one of the most exciting looking films I'd seen for quite some time. I'd urge anyone who's unsure about van Hoytema to watch it. Hopefully some of that can rub off on BOND 24.

With Mendes losing Deakins and - if I remember correctly - Newman, a new approach might be just what the doctor ordered to keep this from being too much like SKYFALL.

Mendes could certainly do worse than sticking to "Tinker, tailor..." and not only hiring its cinematographer but also its composer, Alberto Iglesias.  His score for "Tinker, tailor..." was excellent.

Keeping Newman wouldn't make it being too much like Skyfall, in fact, it would give Newman the ability to further explore sounds and themes in the next film. I haven't read or found anything on the net about Newman leaving or returning, but seeing how Newman won a BAFTA and Grammy (If I recall) not mention other numerous awards for scoring Skyfall, I'd be shocked if Newman wasn't called back by Mendes and EON. If Newman doesn't return, then I'd be certainly fine with Alberto Iglesias scoring, though I'd personally go for Daniel Pemberton. His first big break was scoring Ridley Scott's The Counselor, and it sits as one of my favorite scores of 2013. I'd honestly would like anyone other than David Arnold. I don't think Arnold's style of Bond Scores fits Daniel Craig's era. Sounds too much like Brosnan's era (duh, obviously)

Good news.It sounds like they are continuing the practice of using big-name talent behind the camera.

If nothing else we are assured to have a visually appealing Bond film this time round. Unless of course it is completely ruined by the editing (i.e. QOS).

Good news indeed! I quite like that. It seems they're continuing the trend of excellent visual quality. The cinematography was superb in SF and was beautiful in QoS.
