On this day (Aug 25th) in 1930, one fine young Scotsman named Thomas Sean Connery was born.. Here's wishing him a very Happy 83rd Birthday!! :) I do hope things are still going okay for him and that he's enjoying the retired life..

Saw that as well, PPK... I hope that is just typical tabloid garbage...(the fact that only ONE internet site is reporting it, tends to make me think it is..)

Actually 83 is an age that certainly entitles one to the odd eccentricity without that necessarily having to mean anything more serious than just that, advanced age.

Dear Mr. Connery,

I was introduced to the world of 007 in the summer of 1980 when I was visiting my cousin who was fortunate to have the HBO channel (which we didn't have back home.)  As two pre-teens are wont to do, we stayed up late one night and watched a double-feature of Moonraker and Diamonds are Forever.  Prior to that night, I had never seen a Bond movie - but from that night forward, I was a fan.  When I returned home from my visit, I eagerly spoke to my parents about this "new fellow" James Bond I had just discovered... innocently thinking that they were daft to who he was.  Imagine my shock when they told me, "Oh yeah, we used to go to 007 movies (yours) when we were dating."  WTF?  I guess it never crossed their minds to clue me into the world of 007 when I was learning the alphabet, etc.. (Ha-ha!)

Realizing my newly-acquired and budding 007 fandom, a few months later my father took me to a midnight showing of Goldfinger.  Although the film was 17 years old, it was the first time I saw 007 on the big screen (For Your Eyes Only came out a couple of months later.)  Of course, you 'saved the day' by the end of the movie, but looking back on that night, the real 'hero' of the evening was my dad - a man who worked his butt off to provide me and my mother a roof over our heads but who was willing to indulge an obnoxious little kid by taking him to the movies in the middle of the night (and well past both our bedtimes.)  To this day, it is one of the fondest memories I have of him.

After that night, I followed your career and hardly ever missed one of your films (and certainly went back and watched the older ones like Darby O'Gill, Marnie, etc.)  Throughout your career, you've been blessed with this 'ease of being in the role' (like Gregory Peck, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper - just to name a few) so that, when the movie begins, the audience thinks, "Oh, so-and-so is staring in this film."  But shortly thereafter, they forget that they're watching an iconic movie star become engrossed in the role/character because the you're that good/convincing in the role!  (Thank goodness you picked acting, because with your natural charisma, if you had gotten into politics, I could easily see you being able to talk a nation into going to war!  (Ha-ha!)

I'm confident that I write this for, not only for the fine folks at this forum, but for the millions of your fans out there when I wish you a very Happy Birthday.  And on a personal note, thank you dearly for helping make that special memory of my father.  Cheers! (and hoping this reaches you somehow)

The year 1958,  I was a student in the university.  A friend of mine gave me a book  and said that Fleming had wriiten that Bond novel called Dr NO and he predicted the hero would become immortal.  After reading it in just one day, I agreed with him.  My love for Bond began.  I read a few more Bond novels, and watched Bond -that was Sean Connery appearing on the screen in 1962 in Dr No.  What thrill it was!. Sean to me became the quintessential Bond.  Happy Birthday Sean.  You are a legend . You gave us the  fine portrayal of Bond. Keep in good health.
