Nice idea - I love a forum member who enjoys pulling rank. Here's mine based on the incorpration of the main Bond theme, the overall feel and excitement of the soundtrack relating to the tone and era of the film itself, and the production value evident on listening:

  1. ‘A View To A Kill’
  2. ‘Skyfall’
  3. ‘Live And Let Die’
  4. ‘Casino Royale’
  5. ‘You Only Live Twice’
  6. ‘The Living Daylights’
  7. ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’
  8. ‘Quantum Of Solace’
  9. ‘GoldenEye’
  10. ‘From Russia With Love’
  11. ‘The World Is Not Enough’
  12. ‘For Your Eyes Only’
  13. ‘Goldfinger’
  14. ‘Licence To Kill’
  15. ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’
  16. ‘Octopussy’
  17. ‘Die Another Day’
  18. ‘Moonraker’
  19. ‘Dr.No’
  20. ‘Diamonds Are Forever’
  21. ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’
  22. ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’
  23. ‘Thunderball’

I'm going to take some liberty with the concept and list composers in order of preference.  I find that too many of them, especially the Barry scores, exist at the same level for me, although for the record, OHMSS is the best of the best in my book.

Therefore (with apologies to Monty Norman who doesn't get a credit for a complete score in my book)...

John Barry
Thomas Newman
George Martin
Marvin Hamlisch
David Arnold

Eric Serra
Michael Kamen

Bill Conti

(big gap)

Michel Legrand

Top Five:

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The best - no question.

2. The Living Daylights

3. You Only Live Twice

4. Diamonds Are Forever

5. Thunderball

(almost made it: A View To A Kill/Moonraker)

Least favourite John Barry: The Man With The Golden Gun (although it still has it's moments)

Best of the non-Barry soundtracks (and further down the list):

1. Live and Let Die

2. Skyfall

3. The Spy Who Loved Me

4. Licence to Kill

5. Quantum of Solace

This is why I love Bond fans - the varied opinon we share!

Take Grard Bond - my favourites are his bottom and I can't imagine why, and vice versa! Please divulge more Grard, just for my personal interest in your take! :)

24 NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN  Michel Legrand is a tfamous composer but his work on this movie was one of the worst.

23 DR NO

22 THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN  I can not forgive Mr Barry for adding the stupid sound during the stunt car. Lulu's song is horrible

21 THUNDERBALL Too repetitive

20 DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER

19 GOLDFINGER

18 FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

17 OCTOPUSSY

16 FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

15 A VIEW TO A KILL

14 THE SPY WHO LOVED ME

13 MOONRAKER The Space March is fantastic

12 LICENCE TO KILL This movie and 'Band of Brothers are the best Michael Kamen's works.

11 YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE

10 DIE ANOTHER DAY The best tracks of the movie are not in the album... very strange

9 CASINO ROYALE Some tracks are awful and too noisy

8 THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

7 GOLDENEYE Serra is often criticized but the soundtrack is very interesting

6 THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS

5 LIVE AND LET DIE

4 QUANTUM OF SOLACE

3 TOMORROW NEVER DIES

2 ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE

1 SKYFALL

1. anything by John Barry - TLD followed by OHMSS, GF, MR (very underrated), DAF, YOLT, FRWL, AVTAK, TMWTGG ,TB and OP.

2. LALD (best non-Barry score IMO)

3. QOS

4. SF (didn't like at first but this one is growing on me)

5. TSWLM

6. TND

7. CR

8. FYEO

9. GE

10. LTK

11. DN (saved only by the inclusion of the JB theme, otherwise crap)

12. DAD

13. TWINE

14. NSNA

I can't rank them all so formally, but my listening frequency goes like this:

!st place tie: DAF, LALD & OHMSS

2nd place: TB, TMWTGG & FYEO

3rd: OP, TLD, YOLT

The rest of John Barry

As for the remainder, I don't listen to them as much as I used to, but I'd rank TND first among David Arnold's, followed by DAD. The rest just get too noisy and complicated.

To be perfectly unfair, I don't listen to the newer ones as much (If I did, I'd rate Thomas Newman's Skyfall alongside TND).
