Hey all,

Is there anyone that could provide me with an exhaustive list of alternate versions of Bond songs?

By which I mean versions of Bond songs that are different from the version featured on the film soundtracks and are also 'official' - meaning either versions that were officially considered by the composer and/or producers or early versions written by the film composer.

I'm not interested in so-called 'rejected' versions that were merely hopeful submissions.

I mean single versions or album versions in the singer's discography, early versions, extended versions, etc., like the 'Goldfinger' or 'Thunderball' single versions, for instance.

It would be great if it could also be noted if these versions are officially available on CD (or even LP), or if they are only available as 'unofficial' or 'bootleg' versions.

This topic pops up occasionally here, but nobody has yet provided a systematic overview, as far as I can see; and this might be interesting (especially given that we have now more reliable information thanks to Burlingame's book).

Thanks in advance!

What interests me most are the versions used in the actual films, because some of them are different to what ended up on the soundtrack albums and singles.

A good example is Nobody Does It Better.  If you listen to the song that plays over the title sequence, the whole thing is quite clearly a completely different recording to the commercially released version.  It's almost identical, of course, but you can spot that Carly Simon gives a different vocal performance and the backing track isn't quite the same.

Another big difference is that the film version has an ending but the album/single version fades out.

I'll try to list everything here once I'm done searching. So far I uncovered:

From Russia with Love (Film Version) - available on the Themeology

Goldfinger (Single Version) - available on several Bassey 'single' compilation CDs

Goldfinger (Demo) - available on the 30th Anniversary Bond compilation

Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Warwick) - 30th Anniversary

Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Bassey) - 30th Anniversary

You Only Live Twice (Alternate) - 30th Anniversary

You Only Live Twice (Single Version) - available on Nancy in London

That Fatal Kiss (B-Side of A View to a Kill) - available on The Best of the EMI Years, Vol. 3 (however, this is actually just "Bond Meets Stacey" from the soundtrack)

Interesting, anything other than "Nobody Does It Better" that is an alternate version in the film (but is not available on CD)? I'm not interested in edited-down versions of course. The film mix of "You Know My Name" is substantially different from either the regular or the pop mix, so that's one.

A-Ha have a weak version of 'The Living Daylights' that they re-recorded for the 'Stay on these roads' album.

It's ok, but not a patch on the version they did with John Barry.

Live And Let Die is another one.  The title sequence version is a different recording to the commercially released version.  Odd!

Licence to Kill is also different from the album version , I think it's the same recording, but is edited heavily and has an actual ending, rather than a fade-out. Much better IMO.

FRWL seems to be a different recording than the album version. Less brass and much more organ featured prominently in the mix.

If I remember correctly, for FRWL it's the same recording, but the organ overlay is missing on the album.

The backing track on NOBODY is the same as the album (the piano begning reveals that) - it just a different mix and a new ending taged on -

Well, if it's a different mix with a different ending ...
