Well... If I correctly understood, EON wants Mendes to be back for Bond 24 and producers are ready to wait that he finished his theater projects and start pre-production of Bond 24. But in this case, we have to wait 2015 or 2016 to see the next Bond movie.

I don't find this is the best decision. I prefer to see another director for Bond 24 and why not Mendes for the next after.

I'm with you on this: I don't need another 'masterpiece', just a darn good action thriller. And I'd like to see it much sooner rather than later.

This is totally unacceptable, if Bond 24 comes out 2016, why they didn't Nolan for Bond 24

I think Mendes' work was excellent for the 50th birthday of Dr No. Skyfall is a good tribute movie but now, Craig's Bond has to start something : three movies were necessary to introduce Q and Moneypenny, I hope Bond 24 will be more "classical" and in this case, it's not necessary to have an Oscar winner director.

That's why I would want to see Nicolas Winding Refn in BOND 24.

I would love to have a Bond sooner and there are plenty of worthy directors but I don't hate Mendes fully putting his stamp and flavoring the future of the franchise.

Interesting that there's been a sudden moderate flurry of director speculation in the past couple of days.

Slightly wary of the fact that the producers may be holding back on BOND 24 development simply to secure Mendes, but admittedly that's fairly speculative. I'm sure there are several directors who would do a good job.

However, if this means Mendes is willing to adapt his schedule to EON's, rather than vice versa, then this is definitely good news.

The way Mike Fleming and Baz are talking, I’d say this is a done deal, Mike was the first to know about Mendes back before Skyfall and Baz’s track record is very strong.

My reading of all this is that Mendes will get an official announcement in the coming weeks - They are just letting the ink dry now.

Oh, I'm utterly delighted by the way!

Ugh I just hate Mendes. I don't have a specific reason besides getting the impression that he thinks his s*** don't stink. Maybe its some crazy British thing I've just never seen before...

Anyway I suppose him returning for Bond 24 is the best way to go....because Lord knows Bond 24 will be dramatic and that is what all action films need these days?... someone experienced in musical theater...

pffft

As long as it's not another character driven, emotional journey for Bond, I'll be happy.

We've had the tease of the iconic elements for Bond, now let 'Bond 24' explore them and use them to continue what 'Skyfall' started if Mendes is back...!

I would defenitely welcome some consistency in the director's chair. As long as Mendes just delivers a straight forward more fun mission for Bond 24 I'll be happy and I think Skyfall's ending pretty much showed that they're planning to go that way.

Maybe, if I was the first person in 10, 000 years of civilization that did not like somebody.

I just do not like his personality from what I've seen in the press conferences and SF production videos. It doesn't help that I'm not really a huge fan of his work either.

Did you listen to his Blu-ray commentary? He comes of as much more witty and personable there.

Maybe they will. Somehow I doubt it...

It'll probably be funnier - but under Mendes & Logan I'm not too optimistic about that. Tbh the humour in SF wasn't as funny to me as everyone seemed to think it was. Undoubtedly there were some great moments, but in general it was a little too Mooreish for my taste. On the other hand, I love CR's wry tone.

I guess that this is good news, in so much it means that there is a timetable and a sense of movement with the next film. I liked SF a lot, and Mendes, along with a lot of other people get the credit.

But I'm not too hung up on who the director is (sure, I'd love to see a Nolan, a Greengrass, a Abrams, a Spielberg, a whoever get a go) but for me it all comes down to the script. Rather than who the director is, I'm more concerned on where Logan is right now. That's the news I want to hear. Has he delivered what he was contracted to do, is it in re-write process, are other writers being drafted in, has Mendes, or whichever director, seen anything yet?

You can bring David Lean back from the grave if that's your thing, but without a script, Bond 24 isn't going anywhere, and the naming of director alone is no indicator of tone or quality.

Well, the script should already be a little more than a page with some scribbling, Logan is said to be working on it for months already. And by the time Mendes finished his theatre business - always provided this turns out to be true - there should be a fairly solid work on the table.

I'm actually more interested now, in the script's movement.

I really am hoping this Mendes rumor turns out to be false. I would much rather EON let him continue with his stage work and get another director that will not require the film to take 3-4 years. I'm sure Chris Nolan will direct a Bond film at some point, however, he is currently wrapped up with Interstellar. Someone like Shane Black could work. But bring back Mendes when the time is right and not just to cash in on the success of Skyfall

Shane Black is a better screenwriter than a director. Iron Man 3 on the other hand... Don't even get me started.

Current Choices, if this turns out to be false:

Kathryn Bigelow

David Fincher

Nicholas Winding Refn

Niels Arden Oplev

I would be fine with either Kathryn Bigelow or David Fincher. I can't really comment on Refn or Oplev as I haven't seen any of their films. I still like Shane Black and thought he did a fine job with Iron Man 3. I do agree that he doesn't have the a lot of experience directing, but then again, John Glen's directorial debut was FYEO. Nolan would probably be fine at some point and I would welcome Ben Affleck, although that would never happen. I just really want to see a movie release in sooner than 4 years.

Shane Black's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, was okay, I simply hated Iron Man 3 and thought it was a massive slap in the face and it will be the last Marvel Cinematic Universe film I see. As a screenwriter, he's terrific. He's written, re-written, and co-wrote some great films (Predator, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Last Boy Scout, Lethal Weapon). Refn is directing the upcoming Only God Forgives, and directed the Pusher Trilogy, Bronson, Valhalla Rising, and the most overrated film yet, Drive. He has a unique visual style that can go either way for Bond, but I'd like to see him attached to it. Oplev directed his first English-language film, the neo-noir thriller Dead Man Down, and it completely surprised me. He also directed the original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and has a unique style that I think would be great.

4 years is a long wait. I like the idea of Mendes coming back, but not if it's 4 years in between films.

To me, this should not be a surprise to anyone who paid attention during the final months before Skyfall was released. John Logan made it very clear that he and Mendes had worked on a story arc together that (could) possibly span two films. This started the whole bring Blofeld back craze - and frankly felt encouraging considering all the positive buzz at the time. I apologize for using adoption as a reference, but I imagine Mendes would not feel too happy giving up his "baby" to another director.

Except it's already been debunked that the next film(s) are not a two-part film.

That doesn't preclude - however - the story arc being adopted for a single film. My guess is this will surface if and when Mendes is officially announced.
