The latest rumour surfaced today, which has no reason not to be true, but pinch of salt all around...

Christopher Nolan has been approached to direct the next 007 movie.

It’s early days, but informal talks have begun between Nolan, his representatives and the powers behind the James Bond pictures, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G .Wilson.

Nolan, who made the Batman trilogy Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises — and had time for Inception in between — would be a cool choice after Sam Mendes decided not to shoot Bond 24.

Following the amazing box-office and critical success of Skyfall, Mendes was close to saying ‘yes’ to the next instalment, but had to withdraw because of his theatre commitments Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear with Simon Russell Beale at the National Theatre.

Also, a lot of unconfirmed chatter has started about Mendes running the National Theatre once Sir Nicholas Hytner steps down in March 2015 after a glorious decade at the helm of the theatrical powerhouse on the South Bank.

There are all sorts of reasons why Nolan might not want to do the next Bond film, though he is known to be an admirer of Bond star Daniel Craig.

For starters, he’s in pre-production of his own next big film, Interstellar, with Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, and he might prefer not to go straight from one huge production into another.

But as one of my Bond experts commented: ‘It does no harm for Broccoli and Wilson to talk with Nolan, even if nothing happens this time round.’

Mendes told me that there would be at least a year to 18 months of pre-production preparation and then six months of filming involved in Bond 24, and the producers want to shoot the follow-up soon after.

This might very well happen.

And push back BOND 24 to 2015 or 2016.

Yay...

While I'd be utterly ECSTATIC if Nolan announced he was directing Bond 24, he's busy on Interstellar and openly doesn't like to line up his next project before finishing his current one. So I seriously doubt this news 'til there's an official announcement.

And if it is true...like you say SAF, no Bond until 2015 or 2016 :(

I believed it was the opposite...

I couldn't see it happening myself, but if it did I can't wait to see Nolan favourite Michael Caine in a Bond film at last! ;)

I don't know - his name would add even more excitement and pressure to the film to live up to standards.

Yes. I'd say this is certainly going on. It might not happen (as Baz says) but right now, they're trying to make this happen.

I rode somewhere that if Nolan directs a Bond film, he would like to cast the next 007 !

I think we have more chance to see Nolan director of Bond 26 with a new actor.

If it means to have another film with a depressed, self torturing Bond, please pass your way, Mr Nolan

Agreed. While I loved the depth he added to the Batman franchise, I think it's time the Bond series eased up a bit on the personal angle.

Just as long as Marion Cotillard is kept VERY far away from the Bond franchise.

I think Nolan has an ability to make things personal without them feeling overbearingly heavy, like things were in SF. Just look at Batman and Inception: all the cool action and excitement can be enjoyed on its own as well as growing out of and serving the story; while there's lots of humour from the characters' reactions to the situation they're in without resorting to cheese (Inception's Eames is basically Bond, c'mon...). That said, you have good cause to be concerned about the darkness; if Nolan ends up making it, I hope his fanboy side allows him to lighten up a bit.

For my part, I've long thought that if Nolan is to make a Bond film, Craig's Bond is the perfect match for Nolan's storytelling - I really hope this happens!

But again, I'm not believing Baz's news until there's an official announcement.

Y u no like Marion Cotillard?

My thoughts exactly. Nolas is a semi-hack, and his flying rodent-flicks are the most overhyped and overrated flicks since the days of The Phantom Menace.

This dance?

I personally hope they go with somebody different but am not surprised that they are pursuing him. I have not been able to imagine him directing one since he does not seem like the kind of director that would give up the amount of control usually required to do a Bond film.

It's Baz Bamigboye - it's bound to be true. Whether or not it comes to anything is another question.

I've enjoyed Nolan's flicks over the years, although I do wish he didn't like his own work so much.  Inception is a good example of this, as it was a solid 30 minutes too long.  He tends to take a good idea and beat it to death, reducing the novelty of said good idea.  So while Nolan might make a pretty good 007 film I'm concerned we could get the most portentous entry yet, and probably clocking in at about 2:55.

Indeed, chances are by now Nolan has to be approached either way, whether for BOND 24 or Bond in general. Probably just to test the waters, see how much control he'd want to have, what writer(s) for the script, so on.

I admit I'm not really surprised by this rumour (with a high likelihood of being substantial, given Bamigboyne's record), nor does the prospect excite me at the moment. I recently realised I tend to forget an awful lot about the details of his Batman-films. Within a short time. Perhaps it's just the curse of Batman or something.  Although... I liked how he brought his Batman full circle, effectively starting and ending that hero's career within his storyline. Not that he'd ever be allowed to do that same stunt with Bond, mind you.

But he might try...

YES! BOND 24 NEWS!!

We are not talking about Shakespeare, which would have been a better fit for Mendes. This is Bond; "a sexist, misogynist dinosaur." I think Nolan could do gadgets, girls and guns very nicely.

I would have rather had someone directing who could get the film out before 2016, though I'm excited about the idea of Nolan directing and upsetting a few Bond fans in doing so.

Hopefully this will fuel enough conversations until we get more Bond 24 rumors and updates.

If this is true, then we can expect any number of the following actors to appear in BOND 24:

Christian Bale
Marion Cotillard
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Tom Hardy
Michael Caine

Cillian Murphy
Ken Watanabe

Not likely. What are you basing your statement on? Because he has used a few actors in different films? Is he the first director to do this?

My comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Still, Nolan has a reputation for using many of the same actors repeatedly in his films. I wouldn't really oppose any of those actors appearing in BOND 24, although I'd say Watanabe and Murphy are probably the most likely as they're not as high profile as the rest.

Sorry. I've just seen this before. People jump to assumptions that they know exactly who Nolan would cast as if he is doing the casting. Nobody ever says anything like this about David Fincher who also has used and uses collaborators or any other director for that manner.
