Concerning "24", I have doubts about whether 12 episodes work better.  They surely have less filler material - but still, "24" had become stuck creatively at least after season 4.  How many more times can Jack Bauer scream into his cell?  How many more times can he beat someone to pulp in order to secure information?  How many more moles can be discovered within CTU?  How many more "girlfriends" can Jack lose?  How many more times can Jack Bauer be called back into service?

I believe these problems cannot be solved.

Well, at least I count five different themes to deal. Those are more than a lot of series around... :P :D B)

Stephen Fry has joined the cast as the British Prime Minister. Not sure how I feel about that.

Looks like a good start! Although whether it works across a 12-episode arc is clearly a different matter altogether.

I´m mildly intrigued - although the only fresh thing in it is transporting Jack Bauer to London.

Excited for this - Kiefer always puts on a good show as Jack.

Definitely planning on watching this I never got to see the whole series just too many episodes. 24 has to be one of my favorite shows ever how badass would it be to feature a cameo of Bond in London.

Honestly, I think a Bond cameo would be a terrible idea.

As for 24: Live Another Day, it looks somewhat decent, even if it looks like a rather derivative spy/action series.  I'm really only interested in it for Yvonne Strahovski, who is said to have a massive role in this new series.  It'll probably get good ratings, as it's starting when everything else is coming to a close, but it would be nice if the studios could stop bringing back all of these old, canceled shows and instead focus on making something brand new.

The other big problem will be:  another series if this turns out to be a big enough hit.

For me, Jack Bauer started as a believable agent.  I even thought season 2 (with Bauer becoming much tougher and brutal after losing his wife) and season 3 (with Bauer becoming an undercover drug addict) still worked.  But from then onwards, Jack Bauer became a superhero.  Still fun at times, but now the character is highly unbelievable, yet set in a kind of realistic world.

^ Definitely.

I love 24. It was the first TV show I grew to love and enjoy and it will always have a special place in my heart. I will end up watching this obviously because it's Jack Bauer.

Jack is back!

Bizarrely the CIA's London station is set in a building I walk past almost every day. 24 meets my world.

Loved the new episode 24 is certainly a unique show and never loses it's touch. Keifer as Jack outstanding as always. Season 1 & 2 were best IMO

Entertaining stuff as always. Jack's scarred up torso was heavy on the scar tissue, which i thought was great - he's virtually the walking dead.

Fairly predictable up to now (seen 2 eps), but that's how they played it before - lull you into a false sense of security until midway (ep6 in this shortened run), which is when they'll pull a major twist, surprise, and usually some nice stunt casting t-boot. The sudden late appearance of Hopper in the first season was great, though my fave part was when the 'good guy' suddenly starts talking klingon under Jack's interrogation (i think it was Serbia, maybe!).

Made the mistake of watching this big on the projector and got a little sea sick - forgot just how shaky-cam-close up this show is. It's a show made 100% for tv, in a very good way. Looking forward to the next ep (on on the telly this time)

ETA: One thing that made me laugh - Kiefer's intro, saying something like,

"This takes place between 11am and 12pm...."   Fair enough - it's only 12 eps covering 24 hours, but they can skip time in the story telling - good stuff.

"The events take place in real time..."   Ok, hold on a minute! That's where i laughed out loud. Obviously this series doesn't take place in real time because there's 12 hours missing. I'm fine with them showing us the select 12 hours of this 24 hour period, but don't talk BS.  Guess they forgot, or didn't want to change the script here from the show's format script, but it leaves them looking slightly dumb.

Maybe it was just me, but i thought Kiefer sounded a little embarrassed to be saying that second line.

They were fun episodes. Nothing earth shattering or anything like that, just reasonably solid television that made for an enjoyable night. I'll be sticking with it.

The diehard fans love the "events occur in real time" line. It's included at least once per season for their benefit.

They'll aim for the 12 hours of the season to be approximately in real time, apart from the huge jumps in London traffic obviously! Apparently no hours are skipped until the ninth episode of the year.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mini-series, half season, whatever you want to call it. Really hope 24 comes back again one day. Maybe give Jack Bauer a happy ending for a change!

Indeed. Just like the good old days, I was glued to the series. Sure, it's not high-brow or award-winning fare, but it's fun and entertaining. Plus, for me, to see London as the setting was a great bonus.

The ending wasn't particularly what I wanted, so I certainly hope there's more to come.

I haven't watched much of 24, but I wonder if the Craig Bond films in fact owe more to 24 than they do to Bourne. Rushing about, gun in hand, with an ear piece in your, um, ear, with the situation room at HQ monitoring your movements and give you information and instructions. Seems like 24 did a bit of that and then the Bonds have done a bit of that. Nothing wrong with that, Bond has influced and been influced, just an observation.
