James Bond baddie Jaws heads for PortsmouthONE of 007’s most feared enemies is looking forward to spending time in Portsmouth – and says he could take current James Bond Daniel Craig in a fight.
Richard Kiel, the actor who played Bond baddy Jaws, will be visiting the city as part of a film memorabilia event at the Mountbatten Centre.
Richard said: ‘It’s really wonderful to travel and to discover there’s more to this world than California. I have been to the south of England before but never to Portsmouth.’
Richard said he is looking forward to seeing the Portsmouth Historic Dockyards and that the Spinnaker Tower ‘sounded interesting’ despite his fear of heights.
Visitors to the film memorabilia day will be able to get a photo taken with the big man himself, who measures a lofty 7ft 2in.
His height is one of the main reasons the actor is still recognised as Jaws. ‘I’ve tried a hat, and wearing glasses, but it’s no use,’ he quipped.
Richard will be appearing with the actress who played his on-screen wife Dolly, Blanche Ravalec.
However, Richard’s real-life wife Diane, who is 18 years his junior, will be keeping a close eye on him.
Richard, who is 71 and has six grandchildren, said: ‘I’m very fortunate, my wife keeps me young.’
More importantly, Richard reckons he could take the current Bond, Daniel Craig, in a fight.
He said: ‘He is pretty fit. I wish I had his six pack but my arms are so long I could probably get to him.’
While he is in the UK, Richard will film an advert for a dental implant company because of his notorious metal mouth in James Bond.
Richard will be appearing at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth on Saturday, May 25 from 10am until 5pm. Entry costs £5 adult, £3 child, available on the day. The following day he will be at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu.
