Blockbuster action is due to bring Swansea’s historic Oystermouth Castle back to life next month showing Bond movie Skyfall on a big screen at the ancient attraction on the evening of Friday, May 10.
Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and Javier Bardem, has been widely acclaimed as among the best James Bond films of all time.
It is the seventh highest-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing film in the UK and the highest-grossing film in the Bond series to date.
Nick Bradley, Swansea council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Oystermouth Castle has been an outstanding success story since its reopening after major conservation works
It’s a fantastic landmark that attracts many thousands of visitors every year
The grounds also provide a great outdoor event location with the castle forming a majestic backdrop
The castle’s heritage and setting make it an ideal place to screen outdoor movies like Skyfall"
Oystermouth Castle, which dates back to the 12th century, has been shored up by Swansea council and in the past few years more than £1m has been spent on safeguarding it for the future and bringing it back to something like its former glory. New features include displaying graffiti art from the 14th century, opening private staircases leading from vaults to previous banqueting halls and constructing a 30ft high glass bridge.
