I move that CBn puts an informal ban on threads dealing with rumors of title song performers. These pointless things come up all the time and we all know a title performer isn't announced until the summer before the film even comes out in the fall.

The script hasn't even been finalized, the first frame of film is still months from being shot and people actually believe the production team is concerned about who will perform the title song? It's a prime gig performers would flock to for sure, so it's not like they need to build interest, but any beforehand speculation is just rumors and PR hype that leads to nothing.

At least speculation on actors and actresses makes sense at this point.

Well, Adele was already in place in September before production began on Skyfall. She let slip that she was about to do the demo on the Jonathan Ross Show. Back then, the script hadn't even been finalised, the first frame of film was still months from being shot etc. etc...

I did think twice before starting this thread. But there was no general thread concerning title track rumours or rumours in general. I thought it was of interest so went ahead and posted. Perhaps a mode might want to turn this into a general song gossip thread, that way all the bits and bobs can go in here. People who want to avoid until later in the film's production can easily ignore a single thread without a number cluttering up the forum.

EDIT: Here is a link from September 3rd 2011, where Adele drops a massive hint that she was about to start work on the Bond song. So an artist being in negotiations in August seems to not be too incredible.

I don't personally like this movie but here's my reaction:

I´m afraid that´s my reaction, too.

I can't stand him personally. I think his voice is horrid; there's something about it just grates on me.

I can tell the British press are already labelling him as the male version of Adele so why not throw him into the 'Bond 24' mix.

Hopefully this WILL be nothing more than obvious speculation replacing Adele with the nearest thing.

If he DID do it, it'd be another 'Skyfall' ballad clone I reckon, I think we need to steer clear of that.

And relax. :)

Have Eon got a death wish?

Do they hate their success enough to have this pubescent sounding cliche winge Bond 24 into oblivion?

OMG WHAT

Never mind I have heard this song on the radio. This would be for him to do a Bond song.

I like Sam Smith, but I've doubts about him doing a Bond theme because of his vocal style.

I don't want Adele again. Skyfall was great, but there's plenty of talent out there.

But, floating rumours of Sam Smith is certainly a sure fire way to have everyone begging  Adele to return.

I agree. I mean I get Adele is kind of like Shirley Bassey in a way, but I think we should have someone else to do a Bond song. Have Adele come back in like 5-6 years and do another one.

I googled and found a few tunes. I now wish i hadn't as the thought of him even being associated with Bond is utterly demoralising.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss ;)

Unlikely. Just to give some idea of how green this guy is, note that his Wikipedia page is younger than Skyfall. Setting aside his merits or drawbacks as a singer, he's just too new and untested for EON to be considering him.

Considering the Sony plan of cross promotion in all of their properties - the within reasonable doubt options are:

COLUMBIA: Adele, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Calvin Harris, David Bowie, Foster The People, HAIM, Jack White, John Mayer, One Direction, Pharrell, Train

RCA: Alicia Keys, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Pitbull, SIA, Tom Odell

Noone on Epic really fits the bill

Sam Smith is on Universal... therefore I'd say its a no go - unless Sony is out of Bond 24 (but Im pretty sure theyre still involved)

I'd never heard of Sam Smith, but gave one of his songs a listen just a few minutes ago.  Definitely not my first choice for Bond 24, but I'd prefer he get the job as opposed to Adele.

I saw Sam Smith live at a festival 2 months ago, he's getting quite big in the UK at the moment. But I don't like his music or the way he sings.

Either bring back Adele or someone of that ilk. Sam Smith would be terrible for Bond!

I'd add Sade to the mix. She's a Sony/Epic artist and she's due for a new album as well. You could consider Maxwell but I think his voice isn't that powerful for a Bond flick.

I'd love to see Gregory Porter handle the theme song duties. A tremndous voice with plenty of range.

David Bowie on the Sony list? The "Starman" who almost became a Bond villain? It would be interesting to hear him doing a Bond theme.

The Sam Smith rumour is gaining traction. I've been listening to "Heart FM" this afternoon, and straight after playing Adele's "Someone Like You" the presenter said that Adele had, allegedly, turned down the chance to do the theme for Bond 24, but that Sam Smith was, in this broadcaster's words, a "great backup choice".

I don't know what we should make of that, other than the man on the radio may have been consulting the same internet links the rest of us have.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next theme performer is someone "obvious" -as Adele turned out to be - or someone unexpected, such as Chris Cornell.

Well that narrows it down. I have a personal theory that the next theme performer will be either a man or a woman.

Simple solution...just make the title song to Bond 24 an instrumental, something we haven't had since OHMSS...Problem solved! :)

Good idea!

Daft Punk perhaps?

I could see Liam Howlett of The Prodigy coming up with something gritty and exciting, like OHMSS, especially if he collaborated with Dave Arnold.

I'd take the theme from Rhubarb and Custard over Sam fekking Smith !!!
