Hi,

 

We all know that James Bond celebrated 50 years on the big screen 2012, and the literary character celebrates 60 years in 2013. But also (!) the Bond video games celebrate an anniversary since the first game was released in 1983, 30 years ago, by Parker Brothers on Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit computers, Commodore 64 and ColecoVision.

 

Can we expect anything from this? A new video game? More DLC (missions from other movies) to 007 Legends? Maybe a bundle with all the EA games updated to the new generation of consoles?

 

...or nothing?

Since Activision has pulled their Bond-related inventory from their online stores, I don't think that there's any more content coming for 007 Legends, and there may not be any more Bond games coming from Activision at all if rumors posted in one of the other threads is to be believed.  

 

I doubt we'll see any kind of celebration or acknowledgment of a gaming-related anniversary for the franchise.  It really hasn't been a storied enough franchise to warrant any kind of celebration, whereas the film and literary franchises have been over the course of the past few decades.

I think that, for the time being at least, the Bond video game series is dead. Activision has all but admitted they no longer have the Bond license. On top of that, would anyone really want DLC for 007L? The game was a chore to get through once. As for remastered versions of AUF, NF and EON, unless EA were to get the Bond license back (which I doubt, I think Ubisoft will probably pick it up) we won't get that. Although I would be all for it.

It would be nice in an ideal world, but feel that apart from the N64 'GoldenEye 007' video game back in the 90s, not many people probably feel the need to celebrate James Bond's gaming career, which is a shame, due the the waning quality of the games themselves.

 

And with this development of Activision now pulling out of the licence themselves, it leaves the games in a bit of limbo. However, as Bond is a unique selling point to own, I don't think it will be long before a new company acquire the licence to re-boot the games with a new style and take. As I said before, 007 Legends wsa the gaming 'Die Another Day', so now we need the video game series's 'Casino Royale'.

I think, that while the awful reception to 007L is the reason for Activision losing it, the high reception and popularity of Skyfall will make the game license attractive to whoever picks it up. Maybe whoever does will go the Sleeping Dogs way and revive Raven's game. My guess for the next 007 game too will either be late 2014 or probably more likely 2015. They need to stop the practice of making games to piggy-back off the success of the films.

I hope there'll be a good Skyfall videogame, after all even Casino Royale's was delyaed because it wasn't ready for Novemember 2006. Of course, Skyfall, unlike Casino Royale, won't work with with Bond 24, it has to be a stand-alone game, like the movie is.
