I reckon there's a decent chance they could get Big Tam up on the stage with the other boys for this one, if they go down that route.

Fantastic news! About time too, and hopefully this will culminate in at least some Award nominations on the night (dare I say even a win!?)
Let's get some of the Bond alumni on stage, or present at the Awards for this ultimate movie tribute to the series!
What a way to start 2013 for the Bond franchise in the eyes of the world.

All this attention bodes well for nominations....AA voters are easily swayed by publicity....

I was thinking the opposite. Now that Bond is being thrown a bone he can be overlooked at nominations. I guess I am a 'half-empty' kind of guy. Still hoping though.

Yes, and the announcement of this is timely too. Today is that last day for voting, perhaps this will influence a few stragglers before the deadline this evening.
Fingers crossed.

That's really exciting! I found out about this and I tweeted about it haha xD

"Well, that's a neat trick." But I wouldn't be fooled into watching.

I hope Berenice Marlohe will be there.

As I posted in another thread, my initial concern was that this may be in lieu of a selection of SKYFALL nominations, but hopefully we'll be able to enjoy both! If nothing else, at the very least, it should mean that Craig, Mendes, Wilson, Broccoli (and maybe even Connery and some of the other Bond actors) will be attending the ceremony. Great stuff.
Lets not get nuts here LOL, Connery, really? That would just wild.
Posted 05 January 2013 - 03:24 AM
I am expected we would see Wilson and Brocooli (obviously), Craig, javier, and judi, Sam mendes, and Adele........maybe Roger Moore,Dalton will join as special guest
Posted 05 January 2013 - 03:42 AM
I could easily see Roger being there for it. Connery not so much.
Posted 05 January 2013 - 03:51 AM
Don't get too excited.
For me, this news pretty much confirms that Skyfall won't be winning any (important) Oscars...
Posted 05 January 2013 - 04:10 AM
This tribute is probably just going to be just a short video similar to what they do with their "In Memoriam" tribute each year or the other tributes they do from time to time. I don't see this being something major enough to bring out a ton of people from the series such as Roger Moore or any of the other Bond actors. Craig will probably be there, since they'll probably have him present something, as will Wilson, Broccoli, and Mendes be there to support Deakins when he's nominated for an Oscar for his work on Skyfall. The only involvement the Bond people will have at the Oscars is Craig (and maybe another co-star with him) presenting, some of the executives in crew in attendance, and a single nomination for Cinematography.

They've had tributes before with standing ovations. Would be great to see all six Bond actors on the same stage.

I seriously doubt that this will be one of those.
The only way that they'd put the Bond actors on stage would be if they could somehow convince Connery to make an appearance. He's the only one of the bunch that the Academy seems to have any respect for. At the absolute most, there will be three of the actors there, but most likely it'll just be Craig.

Of course Skyfall won't win any "important" Oscars. No one ever believed in that.
But no one knows about the nominations yet, because the members had time to send in their votes until yesterday. And now two guys from PriceWaterhouseCoopers will count the votes and reveal it next week. So the producers of the TV show don't know anything about which movies will get what kind of nominations.
This 007 special on the show has nothing to do with the nominations.
But what are "important" Oscars?
For me it's the same honour to win "Best sound mixing" as winning "Best Film".

Best Film
Best Director
Best Actor/Actress
Best Screenplay

Yeah. But there is no "official" Big five.
Each Oscar is worth the same.
And when Charlie Chaplin is credited as "Oscar-winner Charles Chaplin", no one would reply: "But he only won the Oscar for Best Score"
A "Best supporting Actor" winner is no less important than a "Best Actor" winner.
And "cinematography" should be up there, too. Because that's what filmmaking is all about. It's not just about authors and producers, it's about the people who actually design the look of the movie.
Of course "Skyfall" won't win Best Picture or Best Director or Screenplay etc.
But if "Skyfall" wins 1 single Oscar in any category, that would be a first since "Thunderball" 47 years ago.

Was the 50th Anniversary not last year?

Was the 50th Anniversary not last year?
Evidently still a bit behind the times in Hollywood, but I guess we could give them the fact that it's 50 years since DR NO was released in the United States. Infinitely more likely that they just forgot when putting together last year's show though!

Was the 50th Anniversary not last year?
The Academy Awards always honour the movies of last year.
The ceremony in February is about 2012 movies. It's the 2012 Oscars.
And by the way: it's still the 50th Bond year, because "Dr. No" was released in October 1962. So they can celebrate 'til 4th October 2013. ;-)

On;y if you're the sound mixer.

With attitudes like that why should the Academy vote any Oscar to Skyfall?

Yeah but this isn't about a 2012 film: it's about an anniversary!

Berenice Lim Marlohe for 'Best Actress'. Obviously.
Excited to hear what 'Skyfall' will have, if any, when the nominations are announced. Let's end the cinematic run on a high for 'Skyfall'!
