Great idea for a thread. Just the other day I was buying a Bond magazine at a store and the cashier, a kid in his early 20s, talked about how much he liked Craig and I mentioned how not everybody felt that way when he was announced and how different opinion swayed once they actually saw him.
That link was quite funny and mostly standard for that time, hitting all the usual suspects - Bond isn't supposed to be short, blond, ears are too big, etc. But where does she get he's too thin? This Craig, not Brosnan. Also gets in the typical digs on Dalton, but I was surprised she didn't care for Brosnan. A few points for actually picking OHMSS as her top film. The rest is too silly.
Very amusing person. She comes across like she's some huge expert but is really a lower-profile Ann Coulter and had many typos and mistakes for somebody wanting to be taken seriously as a blogger. An established expert and blogger who asks for donations and has a fan club tab on her own site. Nice.

Well, Ms Schlussel can hardly be accused of being overly serious or balanced, so the best service one can do a person such as she aims to be is probably to remain silent about her merits.
That said I have to express a certain understanding for the general thrust of the argument. Craig is not the 'traditional' Bond such as he was described by Fleming. Neither is he the Hollywood model hero of 1001 genre flicks and toothpaste adverts. His casting was decidedly risqué, the boldest move the series ever made, and I know a number of fans - some of them fine people who couldn't be further away from the likes of Schlussel or any narrowmindedness - who cannot warm to Craig no matter what. It saddens me that a number of splendid folks isn't able to enjoy the films to the same extent I can enjoy them. Ultimately, there is nothing one can do about it, one just has to ride with the blows and hope the next actor in the role is more to one's liking.

When Craig was announced, I was taken back. It just seemed as though he wouldn't fit the part as well as Brosnan had previously.
I'll be the first to admit now, my initial instincts were dead wrong.

I thought he would be great from the start. All the negative hype about "James Blond" just annoyed me. I didn't really doubt him.
When QOS came out, I was a little worried. If this was bad, would things get worse for him? Obviously not...

While I think DC has done the franchise good I find his version of 007 with each new movie less to my liking. So when he finaly buggers off I can only hope for some improvement.
CR was alright except for the horrible Venice actionscene.
QoS the less said the less rude words spoken
SF had its moments but failed for me as 007 failed and the baddy did win and I found it far too pretentious.

I thought the idea of Craig as Bond was ludicrous, regardless of acting talent, just on the looks, and that hasn't changed. What has changed is that I find his 'talent' and taste to have seriously tainted the series. I don't even see SF as a Bond movie, and couldn't stand any of it outside of the Shanghai sequence. I thought CR was atrociously plotted and paced like somebody experiencing cardiac arhythmia.
There were a few moments in QUANTUM that felt like Bond even in spite of his presence, but really at this point I haven't felt like it was Bond on screen since LTK (even though Broz showed how good a Bond he could be in THE TAILOR OF PANAMA.) Now I just rewatch the Daltons, OHMSS and of course several Connery films, along with segments of the Brosnans and the Ken Adam/Derek Meddings moments in a few Moores.

Apart from the CASINO ROYALE stuff, I couldn't disagree more.

Must be tough to be a Bond fan for some people, then. I couldn't be having a better time outside of being transported back to 1965.

Tough time? Not the slightest.
In case you didn’t notice, we just got all the real Bonds on Blu-Ray, in terrific quality. So there has truly been something for everyone this year.

I'll admit I had my doubts when Craig was first cast. That is, until this little gem was released.

After I saw this, I just knew everything would be okay.
