Skyfall's silhouette fighting scene in Shanghai against Patrice seemed to have some similar moves to the crane fight in CR. A lot of striking the lower legs to get the opponent low to the ground.
Is there a name for this (and Craig's in general) fighting style? If not, perhaps it could be called 'The Eton Mess'? ;-)

I thought the fight was fantastic: Short, brutal, and superbly filmed in silhouette. I don't know much about fighting styles or martial arts, but it was reminiscent of a couple of the Bourne fights which I think were based on Kali.

I can't tell, but I've read somewhere that Craig trained in Krav Maga for Skyfall. Presumably there's some of it in the film.

Update: just found this ITW of Roger Yuan, who was involved in the fight choreography for Skyfall. Interesting bits about the fighting style:

What I did with him was a lot of yoga to loosen him up, a lot of focused moves for boxing, kickboxing, Thai elbows and knees, basically any type of martial arts movements. At the same time, the way that he portrays Bond is much more of a physical, smart, street fighter — a brawler — as opposed to a stylish martial artist. So the way I would hold focus mitts for him and have him throw the punches is more like a boxer, someone who is very good and reactive and has the martial arts skills, but isn’t attuned to any one style. This opens him up to do what Bond does. He can be anything and everything. Bond is sound, effective, vicious and lethal. He needs to get the job done.

That's a nice little quote and kind of sums up what I thought....hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, get to the bar ;-)

Agreed Aisforauric, I find it a very sensible take on Bond's fighting style!

I've no idea on fighting styles, but I love how Craig's Bond always puts blocking first, and then countering them with an elbow or fist.

Plus, he's very good at taking out the enemies knee, making them collapse and help him get the upper hand, as we've seen with defeating Mollaka and Patrice.

The 'Skyfall' fight with Patrice in Shanghai is exceptional - all done in one take and pure adrenaline. Beautiful and brutal.

I guess this is where my Mixed martial arts knowledge comes into play being a green belt in Karate, an up-and-comer into Muay thai, and a self taught boxer. :) !

With the train fight, it looks as if its more of a Krav Maga style with very little Muay Thai with the elbows and knee strikes and course the striking aspect, being that I saw Bond counter-striking more than just simply striking.

The Shanghai fight is more of a Brawl really, Both men laying it all out there and standing toe-to-toe face to face.

As for Bond's fighting style, its Krav Maga, Boxing and some Muay Thai all into one.

This was from Zero Minus Ten by Raymond Benson (I think it was either his first or second Bond Novel (accounting for Tomorrow Never Dies

"The blond man made a move. With a shout, he leaped in the air and delivered a Yobi-geri kick to Bond’s chest, knocking him back. The blow was meant to cause serious damage, but it landed too far to the left of the sternal vital-point target. Michaels was momentarily surprised that Bond didn’t fall, but he immediately drove his fist into Bond’s abdomen. That was the assassin’s first mistake—mixing his fighting styles. He was using a mixture of karate, kung fu, and traditional western boxing. Bond believed in using whatever worked, but he practised hand-to-hand combat in the same way as he gambled: he picked a system and stuck with it."

I don't know if this is Benson's personal philosophy regarding 007's fighting style, I personally can't say I agree with the idea as being a fan of Bruce Lee and an Amatuer in Aikido and Tae Kwan Do, I've been always believed in mixing the best elements of any style.

Beautiful and brutal sums it up. I also like how Bond disappears after Severine spots him.

Krav Maga is the current fashion for movie fights, and has hit Hollywood in, amongst others, Bourne, Bond and Batman.

Whilst I won't pretend to have any real knowledge in martial arts, I know it's a defensive fighting style that has heavy use of elbows and knees, both for striking and defending.

Of course, all the above protagonists mix it up with aspects of various other styles to create their own glorious way of seperating joint from bone.
