If I'm not mistaken, Judi Dench's M uttered a very bad word in "Skyfall," which would be a first for the series. The word is a verb beginning with "F." Anyone else hear it?

Yes..It's been confirmed that M, after having said "I don't give a s#$t about the C.I.A. or their chopped up evidence.." in Quantum of Solace, says "I f#$ked this up, didn't I? " in Skyfall.. Technically, the "F" word was said before in Live and Let Die by Sherrif J.W. Pepper but it's drowned out by a boat engine...watch his lips when the boat jumps over his car..

Don't forget dear Mrs. Bell. She dropped the S-Bomb just before the hangar doors took the wings off of Bond's plane.

Are we absolutely sure? I've seen it twice and could have sworn she said "fouled." Granted, she said s**t is "Casino Royale"...

Nope. Didn't catch it. Have to go back and see it again.( ...like I needed a reason.).

This reminds me of when I was 19 & first saw AVTAK in the theater. Stacey Sutton dropped the S-Bomb whilst driving the fire truck.

Positive. M says: "I f***ed this up, didn't I?"

I believe it was during QUANTUM OF SOLACE that M previously swore. Most foul-mouthed character in Bond history. ;)

Yes, you are correct that it was in "Quantum." After listening for it the second time though I still think she said "I fouled this up didn't I?"

Judi Dench's legacy - delivering the Bond series' first F-bomb in 50 years! She should be shot for that....

Yes she did. Rhymes with duck and where I live used to be referred to, by those who wouldn't use it - and for all I know, still is - as "The old hundred". (Why? I have no idea!)

Though I am no prude, I really felt that this was an unnecessary bridge for the series to cross. Just because the guidelines for the PG-13 rating (in the US) allow for a single utterance of the word doesn't mean that it should be included. I guess the reason it bothers me is that it seems there was no germane reason for it other than the fact that they could do it.

She was angry, scared, exhausted and felt guilty - that was good enough for me. It made sense as it's exactly what I think anybody would have said in the same situation.

I find it strangely appropriate that the first time a character has ever used that word in the Bond films was not Bond himself, and not even the villain, but Judi Dench.

I agree 100%. If there has ever been a point in the franchise where the situation was that serious - it was that scene. Anything less would have been unrealistic.

I would normally say there is no reason for this in a Bond movie but considering the weight of the movie...it was perfect.

Agreed, plus you can't really clearly hear her say the word.

I was taken by my Dad to my first Bond double feature when I was all of 4 or 5 years old - a double feature of You Only Live Twice and Thunderball. I was amazed and enthralled. It's all a little hazy now, but I can remember iconic key scenes. I clearly remember seeing OHMSS at the theater on its first run a couple of years later and then a double feature of Dr. No and From Russia with Love, again with my Dad., when I was in third grade Those are amazing memories that turned me into the Bond fanatic I am today.

I would hate to see the inclusion of the F-Bomb be a reason that some Dad would think twice about taking his son to a 007 movie. It's a threshold the series has never previously breached. I realize the argument can be made that if the wanton death and sexual promiscuity is acceptable for a kid, then so should be the language. But I know my own Dad would have drawn a line there where he (thankfully!) didn't at the sex and violence! :)

It helps that it isn't very audible in the film, so it doesn't become a "DUM DUM DUUUM... M JUST SWORE!!!" moment.

I agree with yellow pinky. One of the joys of the Bond films for a long time has been the ability to watch it with most members of your family. And to cross this line, this way, well, sure it's a new day but let's not forget we've come a long way since "Beatles without earmuffs"!

I thought she said "fouled it up" also. We'll all have to wait for the Blu-Ray/DVD to come out next March and read them subtitles to be sure! :)

I've seen it 3 times and am still not sure whether its f*&(ed or fouled. But either way, I don't think it makes Skyfall any less of a family film (I don't think the Bond films are exactly family films to begin with). Surely they are more family friendly than those damn twilight movies...

I completely agree. I was surprised, actually. When I heard M would swear, I was expecting it to be a comic moment. Obviously hinting to what she's done in the past, but I expected it too be in the DB5, with Bond giving her a very funny look after she said it. I was so happy that no one laughed during that. Everyone in my screening was so into it, that the fact that M just swore made it even more serious.

Oh the twisted contradictions are funny, a film about killers and people dying, and people are not sure if they should be using swear words, WTF?
"Wow, daddy that man got thrown of to his death, cool" blush"she used the bad f word"????????

For anyone still wondering if it is "f***ed up" or "fouled up", the promotional material refers to SKYFALL containing "one use of strong language". That's what it refers to.

When Craig, Dench and Bardem were on the Graham Norton show the other week, Norton referred to her saying a very rude word. He also said that censors had coined the phrase the "Dench effect", after a number of complaints about Quantum of Solace. Seemingly, of the complaints recieved ( an admittedly small number), the majority were about Judi Dench swearing..

Well, to be fair though it could refer to Kincade saying s**t...
