In anticipation of the American release of SKYFALL, my son & I have been watching OO7's previous adventures, in no particular order. When we came across Casino Royale, he'd made an interesting observation regarding Bond's winning of the DB5 in the card game:

If Dimitrios' car was parked by a valet, why would he still have the keys?

Pretty astute for a 2nd grader.

Sharp kid. In fact, you should have asked him to check your spelling before you posted, since, as you nearly noted, he is astute.

I never caught this. I guess you could weasel out of it by postulating a second set of keys.

Or perhaps Dimitrios gave the valet special instructions: "After you park it, come find me and give me the keys. I'm low on cash and I might need to bet the car." And the valet, eager to please after the incident with Elmer Fudd's Land Rover, had no choice but to oblige.

I believe what he has in that scene is a key chain that has no keys on it, which I've always thought was strange.

I'll try to post a screen grab sometime.

Correct, it's a key chain with no keys on it:

Elmer Fudd's land rover. That's hysterical. And one of the best sequences of the film; Bond should not only always fight Blofeld, but he should take the opportunity to stick it to the snobs every chance he gets...

Interesting thoughts about the key chain. Tell that kid he's got some sharp eyes... :)

Not to take anything away from Miles Jr. here, but I thought the scene kind of naturally clears up the potential confusion when it has Dimitrios somewhat explain to Bond what his bet is. He dangles the empty keychain and says something to the effect of "this [represents] my car". I suppose it wouldn't have been nonsensical for him to say the same thing had there been keys, but I do get the sense the line was written particularly for that reason. Or if not, at least it helps. Helped me, anyway.
