I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the shots of Bond walking down the dark hallway in Istanbul. Probably my favorite piece of cinematography I've seen of SF.
can't quite recall that ,link me to it please
I quite liked CR cinematography too

It's ok but i'm not crazy about it. The way i see it, it's not a difficult scene to light and stage, though admittedly it's done well.

I think that OHMSS was the best in terms of cinematography (courtesy of Michael Reed) for the 1960sThe gold standard of Bond cinematography for me will always be Freddie Young's work on YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE,
@ QOS4EVER: The only shot that looked nice in those screenshots is the bar.

Its just that the orange in Skyfall makes it look ugly
I would define this as orange that looks beautifull
or this
But I really dont see from what point of view is this beautifull

African sunsets of the local camera club.
Eric from the bank did them on holiday and everyone in the church hall thinks he should be a professional.
Stunning expressionistic light, using diegetic sources - achieved by one of the truly great cinematographers.

Those from Essex are usually found to be using excessive amounts of fake tan, usually turning them a strange shade of orange.Haha!

Well, I'll base my descision on intuition.Rather than succumb to peer pressure and claim that deakins is the best since that's what all the "cool" kids say. In my opinion, yes I would rather Eric

Nope,Like I mentioned many times earlier , From a Bond movie we should all expect it to be classy and aesthetically pleasing which was not the case with the earlier trailers, the shot of him leaning towards the table was lit beautifully.
Here's hoping the entire movie will continue in the same way
Keep in mind that the trailers were digitally graded by Sony Marketing, not EON or under Deakins's supervision, as the final film has been. As a result there are at least two different aesthetics at work.

About OHMSS, I agree.
About the shot, if you had said the best shot was AT the bar, you´d have a nice pun there

This one is just a classic for me
The beautiful night-sky, lush vibrant colors, really make this a standout. I can imagine this will most likely be the establishing shot for the casino, and if that's the case, one hell of a shot.
The flames really give it this sinister look with the dark silhouette of Silva and truly makes him menacing. It looks great. That's the beauty of this being shot in Digital, NATURAL LIGHTING (Perfect example? Michael Mann's last 3 film: Collateral, Miami Vice, and Public Enemies) I'm sure with some lighting of course.
Another great angle with great usage of colors. The blues from the pool, the colors from the buildings in background.
I somehow seeing this film having VERY beautiful establishing shots throughout. I'm excited to see the action scenes. Besides the Lodge scenes, I'm excited to see Hashima Island sequence.
I love cinematography. Been studying up a lot on it as well as other aspects of the art of film for over 3 years now. Still trying to juggle around a film career and another career route. Maybe both though

I agree Ace - the establishing shots set the mood and tone of the scenes before anything else, and these are so beauifully taken, and each one is so clear in reflecting a new moment and psychology for Bond, be it peaceful and reflective, or dark and stealthy.
I feel it's really going to immerse us in this Bond world.
Very well put!

Oh yes because this shot will be talked about for decades in film studies and amongst cinema buffs and critics. This truly is a masterpiece of cinematography. Now take Quantum Of Solace on the other hand
Everything is presented in a very classy Manner,No matter the movie is 4 years old , you visti it again , it still feels elegant sophisticated and classy. It Doesent feel dated
The only nice of the screenshots you posted (as I stated before). But even this shot is taken from Kubrick (used in two movies no less).
Do you see How much more beautifull it is!
NOPEDo you see How much more beautifull it is!
This is beautiful
This?
Please...
